  1. Looks like you had a good time on sturgeon lake. My friends and I used to fish there every year. We stayed at Lunge Haven. The last year there we basically caught nothing. Not even one walleye and only a couple of bass. Do you think it would be worth the trip to try again? Thanks for any info you can give.
  2. That is so cool. It is amazing that some animals can be so at ease with people. I was born in Sault Ste Marie and did a lot of hunting and fishing north of the Soo towards Wawa. There was a bird there we called a whiskeyjack. It would be about the same size as those magpies only a grey colour. I have seen times when we stopped in the bush to have a sandwich and these birds would appear out of no where and you could feed them. One time a bird flew in and sat on my friends hand and ate bread crusts he fed them. They were very friendly and seemed to have no fear of us. I miss things like that.
  3. Like the gentleman said Rice Lake was always good for walleye but haven't been for years either. Used to fish Sturgeon Lake but the last time there it was terrible. Been told people come up from the GTA and keep everything they catch no matter what the size. Also they have a ban on Lake Scugog for walleye because they are trying to bring the population back up. Good Luck It is a beautiful area and make sure and get some Kawartha Lakes icecream. YUM! YUM!
  4. I have fished in the Timmins area the last week of May and first week of June and it has always been great. Sunny but cool so no problem with flies. Make sure and check the fishing regulations cause I think (don't quote me) walleye season doesn't start till the last week of May. Fishing is always fantastic.
  5. Great walleye fishing at a place called Erieau just outside Chatham on Lake Erie. There are cabins to rent and the fishing is incredible. Can catch some real hogs. Also can catch rainbow salmon and perch. People at fish cleaning station are friendly and will let you know where they are biting. It is a small place but it has a couple of restaurants and a beer and liquor store. Only about 3 hours from GTA. Nice thing too is your limit is 6 a day for walleye with no size restrictions.
  6. I agree with big cliff. Fished Spanish and georgian bay and caught lots. Don't know about the other two but we used to fish Sturgeon lake but the last time we never got a walleye. I was told that it is being overfished by people from the GTA and the prices for places to stay have gone through the roof.
  7. I can't answer any of your questions about the Nipigon River but I have one for you. I had a cousin who lived on St, Joseph Island in a little place called Hilton Beach. I always wondered what the fishing is like there. I have fished a couple of times near the bridge that crosses over to the island. Where did you fish and how did you do? Good luck and have a safe trip home!!!!
  8. I haven't fished Mill Lake but I googled it (Mill Lake Ontario fishing) and there are a lot of sites you can check. One was Mill Lake Angler Atlas. It said you can catch pike, large mouth and small mouth bass and walleye. Maybe rainbow trout as well. It also has hints on how to fish it and what to use. Good luck and have a great time. Four years is a long time and you need a vacation!!!
  9. I know a guy who has fished Gull Lake and he said that he caught trout near the north end of the lake and bass farther south. If you want to google gull lake haliburtan and there is a site that has a map that tells you what is in the lake and where to look for them. Good luck. Nice looking boat.
  10. Until covid I used to fish Sturgeon Lake every May near Lindsay. Ontario. The last year we were basically skunked. Tried everywhere and everything with no luck. Anyone heard how the fishing is there these days? We would like to go back if it is worth our while. Also walleye fishing on Lake Scugog was banned. Is it open now. Thanks for any help.
  11. I have fished on Lake Nipissing but not at Restoule. If you google best lakes to fish near Restoule there are quite a few lakes that will come up. Also it doesn't look like Lake Nipissing is very far from where you will be. All seem to have what you are hoping to catch. Good luck and have a grand and safe time.
  12. There is a fly in called Ivanhoe near Folyet, Ont. We have fished at Horwood Lake near there and stopped by to check it out. Been told it is good. Google it and see what you think.
  13. I forgot to mention that when we fished the north end with a jig head we would drop it to the bottom and then bring it up a foot or so. That seemed to work. Good luck. Hope you have a nice last day on the lake.
  14. I have only fished Pigeon Lake once a while back and had a decent time. If you want to try it we had good luck fishing the north end of the lake for walleye. It is a rocky bottom and we used a yellow jig head with a minnow. Also if you want to you could try a perch coloured crank bait. The south end of the lake has lots of weeds and we caught a fair few bass there. We used to fish Sturgeon Lake (I think it flows into Pigeon Lake) but the last couple times we were almost skunked so we haven't been back. I was told the lakes are being overfished by people from the GTA who keep everything they bring in. Good luck with your last day. Would be nice to catch a few nice one's even if just for pictures.
  15. I looked up his obituary and it looks like he is to be buried in Bradford. Ont. Donations are to Cancer Society so that must be what happened.
