  1. I remember the first ice fishing tourny I entered. Caught a perch that size and won a John Deere chain saw. Sometimes, size dosent matter.LOL Lew,that would be a PB for me.
  2. Never mind the fish,it would kill me running to the fish.LOL
  3. The plan was to get the wee Lilly out for her first ice fishing this Sunday. No daddy or mommy, just some poppy and Lilly time. This all she talked about all week. She must of phoned 4 times this week to make sure our fishing date was still happening. I was hopeing the weather was going to be nice and warm, but cold temps and high winds were called for. Well we got the cold,(that wasnt going to be a problem with the hub and heater.) The wind, well they were wrong,,,,,,,,AGAIN. Out we head for a short walk on the hard water. She,s so helpful she even helped drag out the sled. Set up the hub and she says,it,s a play house. I couldnt stop laughing. Yes Lilly,it,s a play house. Get everything set up,get seated and fire up the heater and finder. She says, you got a TV. Yes,it shows us the fish. Once it,s up and running, she asked where the fish are. So I try to explain the best I can to a 3 year old. Wow,she picked it up so fast. Theres your bait (move it up and down) and you see that line there? Thats a fish.. She looks down the hole,I dont see any fish. We played the chase game. She loved it. Time for some hot chocolate and tim bits. And then it was back to more chasing the fish. Fun morning and I could,nt stop laughing the whole time out. She warmed this old poppys heart today.
  4. Yup,he,s a dick. Got the cold part right, but no real wind to speak of. LOL

  5. Just back from my morning out with the grand daughter. It was a bit cold (-16), little wind, but toasty warm in the hub enjoting hot chocolate and tim bits. . Walking was great on the bay here. Packed up,cuz the divers were sawing a hole 50 ft from us. For a 3 year old,she did well and she loved watching the finder. Once she got the hang of it,she loved watching the fish chase here jig. No hook ups but she had fun.
  6. It,s ok bud. Denial is the first step. LOL Cant believe I just said that. GOLD This is why we have so much fun out there, Live ,laugh and enjoy.

  16. First off, what a super ice season we have been having on Simcoe. The best ice conditions I have seen in my adult years. Traveling both on foot and machine was great. We started the the seaon for perch in December and hit the big waters in January 1st opener . 6 inches and today we finish it with close to 28+. Amazing. While out off the 2nd yesterday,I could see a large crowd out at the 4th. This morning Terry and I headed there first light from BBP. We are greeted by about 40 anglers already. I suggest we stay out side the crowd. So we stop,I get off the sled and low and behold,Theres a hole still open from yesterday.Step back, and step in another hole. SWEET,Im fishing right here.LOL Set up and it didnt take long and we were marking lots of fish. They were tight to the bottom. I knew today was going to be my break out day,as the mrs,s had found my box of tricks that I have been looking for all season. All my raps and bad boyz and meegs. I started with a green/black back bad boyz, tipped with a chartruse micro tube. Didnt take long and it was fish on. it was hooked good, right in the roof of it,s yap. To the hole and out she came. At this point, the crowd was getting bigger and started to move in on us,so we decided to move a bit shallower. Fished that for a half hour or so,marking the odd fish. Look out at the deep waters again,we decided to head back out,but far away from the crowd. Once again, marking fish like crazy but nothing committing until ,another one decide to play. On the same jig. It was a bit smaller then the first, but it was nice to get. The winds started to get a little nasty, snow and sleet mixed in. Stuck it out till around 1 and called it a day. Fresh fish and fries for dinner tonight. Thats going to be sooooo good. Looks like a trip to lake Joe next saturday, then it will be perch, pike, crappie and eyes til ice out and season close.. Then it,s time to get the pin out. Leave you with some pics from the day. I have used that auger set up all season long. it,s the cats meow.
  17. Always like to hook up and meet members here for some time on the water. Both Burtess and I have been trying a few times this hard water season,,but always seem to be going other ways. I seen he was heading up this way today, and since I had the day off to go fishing as well,I hooked up and confirmed a meet on the ice. Another first meet with another OFC member . Super guy. . The other first to this outing,Kevin nailed his first white fish. He brought that fish to the hole like he had caught many of them. As it popped it,s head out the hole,I wasnt going to let it get away. I bury my hands down the ice cold hole and flip the fish out. Nice popping of the white fish cherry Kevin. As always, nice to meet up with a OFC member. As for me and fish. On then off. Marked lots had a few chasers. Oh well, back at it again for the last day for whities and lakers in the morning.

  22. What a beast of a Boar. http://news.yahoo.com/giant-hog-boar-hunter-caught-500-pounds-133815315.html Hunter bags 500-pound wild boar you have to see to believe It doesn't even look real. A hunter in North Carolina says he bagged a 500-pound wild pig last month. Jett Webb, a 34-year-old from Conetoe, N.C., was hunting boar at the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club in Bertie County on Feb. 28 when he spotted the giant swine. "It was very surreal,” Webb told WNCT-TV. “It was a shock. It was very humbling to say the least, when you walk up on a beast that big and you say, 'Oh my gosh. I had no idea that there could be something that big running around the woods of Eastern North Carolina.’" The beast had been seen on trail camera footage years ago, but hunters had failed to capture it until Webb, who says he fired a single shot from a .308-caliber AR-15 rifle from about 50 yards, took it down. "The Mohawk down the back, the tusks really lean, the muscular big front end," Webb said. "This is far from a domesticated docile pig that we're used to." Wild boars typically weigh between 100 and 200 pounds. Mike Mansell, the president of the club, said while the wild boar population is invasive, the sheer size of the pig Webb nabbed is rare. “It takes your breath away for a second to realize how big this hog is,” Mansell said. “It took up the entire bed of the pickup truck." But while it's big, it's certainly not the largest boar ever bagged. In 2005, a guide at a hunting club in Alapaha, Ga., shot and killed an 800-pound hog known by locals as Hogzilla. The pursuit was the subject of a National Geographic documentary. It also wasn't Webb's first big boar. In 2012, he caught "a similar-sized" pig that's mounted on a wall of the White Oak Ranch Hunting Club. But this one won't be. "We’re not going to waste anything,” Webb said. “That pig will provide food for me and my family for a good year."
