  1. Nice pick up Man, Keep one for the mantle, a vintage lure. Paul
  2. Nice Mike, that's a collectable, a thing of beauty! I would gladly carry it around for you and assist you landing the plethora of Steelhead you catch with apparent ease. Paul
  3. "Fish" Bill, I don't even call my wife a sweetheart, let alone a fish... I'm guess I'm not as sensitive as you! Paul
  4. Sweet man, good for you! If you need any material for a story related to 20 hours a week online research, new gear purchases regularily, hydrometric data extrapolation, and still plenty of fishless trips Steelheading, I make for a funny story Paul
  5. C'mon man it's a great site! It's a smaller operation so things take a bit more time. If you need support logging in... I think you can wait a little longer to get hooked up there Paul
  6. Nice fish man. It's good you could get out! It's hard to get time in the water with a young family, I hear you there. Paul
  7. Well done as always Solo! That's some nice side pressure exhibited by your pal. Paul
  8. I only fished Port once last fall and I had a blast. We were there early 4:15 and got into some fish. It's a busy spot but I must say, the guys around me were very friendly and helpful. One gentleman, Tommy, actually gave me a warm drink to help me stop shivering. I was really impressed and will be back soon; I owe Tommy one! Paul
  9. Nice pic! I heard it was a lively weekend at the Port. Some fish and some involuntary swimming too!!! Paul
  10. Picked up my Isalnder this July and I love it. Good start up, smooth operation, looks cool too!!! I got a good deal on mine new, send me a PM if you are interested. Paul
  11. Well writtten. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! P
  12. Nice solo, you are a pro! Good call on river selection. P.
  13. Bill, Your set up looks good. One thing I would key on would be your depth from float to hook. I like to snag occassionally so I know I'm down in the strike zone 3-12" from bottom. I keep adjusting my depth, using my rod as a measuring stick so once I hook up I know how deep I was if my rig gets messed up. Sounds like a tough day on the water. You may want to try smaller bags in soft yellows and whites for clearing water plus stretch out your leader to at least 2feet. Persistance is key!!! Paul
  14. This is slightly off topic, but Solo, why do you prefer 5" centerpins to others??? The only cp I have used is my Islander which is 4.5" and I am curious the difference in diameter makes in performance and weight. Thanks Mike, Paul
  15. Yes fellas it won't be long now. I picked up an Islander centerpin from JC and am looking to upgrade the big stick too! Bring on the crisp air and bright CHROME It's better to have fished and lost than to never have fished at all! Paul
  16. Nice fish! Good to see summer STEEL. Can't wait till the fall.
  17. Yeah Coach it was ugly, but not that BIG, and not that ugly. Paul
  18. Yes, Smalliefisher it looked like a Mudpuppy. It did not have the red skirting behind the ears, but that may be only present on one of the genders or maybe at this stage of life. Thanks guys for all the tips! My 5 year old called it a "Manchobie" I'm not sure where he got that from but I told him I would look it up for him! Catching a mudpuppy has proven to be a first for all 3 of us today. Paul
  19. I was fishing with my two of my sons this afternoon in the Conestogo river in Conestoga and we caught some type of lizard. It was 6-7 inches long, was coloured purple and black, did not have any teeth, and had 4 legs and a tail. Anyone know what this was??? I have fished around Kitchener and Waterloo for 20 years and I have never seen anything like this.
  20. I got out on some rivers off of Lake Huron this week. It was nice and quiet. Water was slightly stained and the fish were a little scarce, I managed to tie into a few! I got this male in a bend in the river under a large overhanging tree. Awesome fight! He ran me downstream towards a nasty knockdown and I had to muscle him back upstream and walk him back up on shore. I saw some in the shallows still spawning which surprised me a little but certainly better late than never. I can't seem to load any more pics, But pink worms were the only bait I had any action on. Only regret was that I didn't buy more of them!!! I am done till the fall for Steelhead. Can't wait for the cool air and fresh CHROME! Paul
  21. I am torn reading this post and I would like some tips on good Steelhead spots! What I find tough is making time to scout out new locations; I have 3 young kids and I work a lot. I have more time to learn about techniques and research online than I do out on the rivers. I can't spend half a day hiking through a river 2 hours from my house with the hopes of finding a honey hole. Anyway, thanks for the tips, and to those who believe in tough fish love - fair enough. It takes a lot of leg work to find new fishing turf. I got a lead on a new spot and I am going to slam'em next week! Paul
  22. Hey Mike, How do you distinguish fresh run Steel from dropbacks? Paul
  23. Thanks Guys, I am getting ready for the Steelhead opener in the Lake Huron tribs!!!
  24. I have always steelheaded with a vest but I like the look of the chest packs now on the market. Any pros and cons to using a chestpack? Which would you recommend? Paul
