If anyone is interested, these rods are also available at Bass Pro Shops in Vaughn. The rod looks great but it felt a bit tip heavy; you may feel differently. Solo is right about the price of the guides; a Fuji Titanium #30 stripper guide is approximately $30. If you were to buy a set of six guides and tip top, you'd be close to a $100.

Smoked trout/char is my favourite. Takes a lot of work but it's worth it. Easiest way to cook would be to cut into steaks and grill in the oven (400 degrees for 10 minutes) with a little lemon, salt and pepper. Make sure you remove the belly fat.

Fish can swim up 16 Mile Creek all the way up to Kelso Conservation Area (Hwy. 401). The Creek runs through Glenn Abbey Golf Course. Spring = steelhead, summer = bass, fall = salmon. There's access at Trafalgar and Dundas, if you want to walk the creek.

Go with the Daiwa Whisker SS 700. They are under $100. Bullet proof.

I have the same Minnkota. I would take it to Rocky in Orillia. Highly recommended.

THE spots in the GTA used to be the Lakeview and Hearn Generating Stations. Unfortunately, they're both out of commission. Spinners, worms, and white jigs (esp. white Beetle spins) used to work really well. It's not the GTA but I the Niagara River gets a huge run. Don't know much about the Niagara run but I'd guess late May early June.

What's your experience with Live Target lures? Some of the finishes look great. I noticed that Dave Mercer was throwing a Live Target frog on his show. I'm hoping he didn't leave Rapala. Just last year they came up with a Dave Mercer sexy-shad colour.

How much would you pay for a discontinued spoon? Somebody just dropped $44.17 + $10 shipping on EBAY for a Delfin Aligator(new in package). Wow. It's a great spoon and it does have a cult following with brookie fishermen, but who would've expected that type of money?!? Check your spoon/pier-chucking boxes for buried treasure!

Sad article in this week's NOW Magazine entitled "Mercury Mystery": ... On the James Bay coast, another First Nations agency, the Mushkegowuk Environmental Research Centre, is issuing its own red alert. The agency has been sampling fish in the Albany and Attawapiskat Rivers and finding high levels of methyl mercury. De Beer's Victor diamond mine on the Attiwapiskat, which started production in July 2008, has been a cause for concern, says Grand Chief Stan Louttit of the Mushkegowuk Council, which represents eight First Nations. Ontario's Ministry of the Environment changed its fish consumption advisory for a stretch of the river near the mine - an important First Nations fishery - to four meals a month, from the previous eight. In a 2007 submission to the MOE, Lean (professor of ecotoxicology at the University of Ottawa) warned that changes to proposed limits from the De Beers mine would bring mercury in the Attawapiskat River to unacceptable levels. "A little mercury can go a long way," Lean says.

The regular Krocodile is OK but I prefer the Krocodile Stubby. At one time, Luhr Jensen called the Stubby the Little Jewel. It's imilar to the Little Cleo but deeper cupped like the Delfin Aligator. 2/5 oz. is a good all around size; 3/4 for salmon. The 1/3 oz. chartreuse/orange-fire-dot Little Jewel was magic for Lake Ontario browns in the days before zebra mussels. PS Call ACME and request the return of topless Cleo on the back of the lure. The engraved headlights were like a beacon calling out to fish.

Taxes were extra at the border; paid by VISA. No problems coming back. The customs guy at Niagara Falls looked jealous but congratulated me anyway. Canadian Tire did a free trailer inspection (required by Ministry of Transportation). I saw similar used rigs in Canada asking $25 000. I bought it through a Maryland marina so I had all the proper paperwork. Round trip from Toronto to Baltimore was 18 hours. Add $70 for an overnight stay in a motel. A year later I picked up a brand new 9.9 Yamaha kicker in Kalamazoo, Michingan for $1450 off Ebay. Ask me if I like shopping in the States.

Mix equal parts of each. That's 3000 grams of home made fish coating vs $4 for 350 grams of Fish Crisp. Add your favourite spice eg. salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, etc. Dust fish and fry away. FishCrisp and Daryl's fish coating both contain hydrogenated oil. Google hydrogendated oil - not pleasant stuff. When you read hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil think sludge for your heart and arteries.
