Wow!
Monsters.
-
I'd like to finally try nymphing with a strike indicator for steelhead.
-
Everything's wide open and blown out today. Best water I could find was still only 2 inches of vis. tops. Tomorrow should be prime.
-
Will do.
I'll shoot you a pm sometime Monday evening.
Thanks.

Can't wait to hit Nosbonsing! Nice going.

I heard from someone just a day or two before Christmas that there was still lots of open water on the south shore. I'm guessing after this mild spell with all the wind and rain, that there will be next no safe ice save for maybe Cook's Bay, and I'm sure it's dicey even in there.
Maybe I'm wrong.

Great christmas fishing wise. Scored a new Helly Hansen floater coat, clamp-on cleets, picked up a new Olympus E-420 SLR, and even managed to make it out steelheading for an hour or two in between the morning and dinner.

I'll be heading down to the Belleville area Tuesday. Temps are supposed to cool off nicely before then, so would I be safe to assume that Big Bay should be safe and good to go for Tuesday?
-
I'll be back on the bog laying a beat down on the crappies.

Looks like I'm making a Boxing Day list of goodies.
Thanks for the info.

My guess is the same CO's that work the Kawartha's in the summer will now be working it in the winter !!
Keen observation.
I'm just trying to say that there doesn't seem to be an ample number of CO's in Southern Ontario relative to the number of anglers and bodies of water. Perhaps (and hopefully) I'm wrong on that one.

We can only hope that the courts and the MNR will come down hard on any poachers and will nail them to the wall with hefty fines as a deterent to others...
I think we first need to worry about there being enough CO's on the water to properly enforce the new regulations to begin with. This creates a lot more area for them to cover. As much as I'd like to believe that most will comply with these regs, I have a feeling there will be plenty ignoring them.

The use of a float somehow slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm going to be hitting the hard water for the first time this year tomorrow morning. This will be my first time targetting pike through the ice. I have my tip ups and one rod rigged with the traditional quick-strike rigs and some big suckers ready to go, but was wondering what other tactics work well for pike. Does anybody use spoons or jigging raps, or are those typically too aggressive for winter pike? I was also thinking the traditional jighead and a minnow worked slow might be effective as well.
Any help would be great.

The avids are GREAT blanks, but Loomis is about as good as it gets IMO.
There's a shop out this way (Oshawa) that typically has G Loomis rods in stock, but I'm sure there's a place closer to you that carries them.
Have you looked at Le Baron and BPS?

Just started playing Pro Pilkki recently. Really, really fun. Surprisingly so for a fishing game. The only other worthwhile one I can think of is the old-school Trophy Rivers game, which was a blast back in the day.

Thanks for the info.
I might just have to stop by and give it a shot.

Wow.
Wasn't aware there was so many atlantics in that system now. Must be a good sign.

Welcome to the board.
I'm actually in the exact same boat as you.
-
I'm getting the shakes reading your reports.
...Only four made days of hell.

I fell through a pond today that looked to be safe. All the snow we've been getting here has really messed up the ice-making process. It wasn't a good time.

perch eyes work amazing to but im not sure if thats legal..
If you catch a perch to keep, I don't see what's wrong with using the eyes.

Was just up on the Canadore lookout this morning.
Things are looking good.
Duffins...Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

You'd be better off hitting one of the smaller tributaries in the area if you're thinking of going tomorrow. Duffins will be washed out until Tuesday at the earliest.
