Areas out of the current should be good to go. i know the river mouth HAD lots. But with all the water moving through now i can see it loosing ice.

Get some braid at least 60lb. It cuts of weeds like a razor and you can crank down the drag in the thick stuff. you will loose less big fish. I like Power Pro...but to each his own. With heavy braid and a reel with a good drag, you need to consider the breaking strength of the leader as well. As far as leaders go, if you are in trouphy waters a good black steel leader...single strand or braided is my go too. 12 inches. If you are using floro for tropohies at the VERY least 80lb. I'd personally say 100. I've seen 40+ inch northens cut 80lb. The crimp didnt slip of....the teeth cut it. Braided line you can use for several seasons. if you are using a baitcaster, it can make for some AMAZING birds nests. It's harder to untangle then mono. That might be a consideration for you. Also use a good knot like palomer if you dont use it already. manditory for braid in my opinion. Hope that helps. -Dave

GCD i think you mean the Department of Homeland Absurdity. lol -Dave

Well as far as the humane aspect is concerned a bonk in the head before decapitation would have improved the situation but its not that bad. The heads not on the body, so it wouldnt feel the gutting occur or anything. As far as the rules goverening such behaviour the eel should have been whacked in teh head 1st. But it's not a huge deal. As far as eating the heart is concerned, cultural difference. Beating is a moot point. Head is off, heart just doesnt know its dead yet. I'm sure you've seen TV shows of Inuit eating fresh killed seal liver, or caribou meat. No different. -Dave

The thermo-dynamics of the situation say no problem.Current areas might loose a little ice, but should be good. I'm kinda looking forward to it knocking te snow down. -Dave

That was great after i had my wisdom teeth out mom had me by the arm walking across the parking lot and i walked straight into a car and just stood their. Some of that stuff sends you for a loop....it reminds me of a quote "Total loss of all basic motor skills. Blurred vision, no balance, numb tongue. The mind recoils in horror, unable to communicate with the spinal column. Which is interesting because you can actually watch yourself behaving in this terrible way, but you can't control it. i saw a sign for another place on the island, but i haven't been. Causeway is altight...little expensive, but a few dollars for minnows is worth it in my opinion i dont mind paying. He sells pinheads by the scoop, and shiners and dace by the dozen. I prefer the dace over the shiners. As i recall the dace were a little more expensive then the shiners. Hoep that helps. -Dave

Everytime i cross a big pressure crack i wonder if something like that is going to happen. As long as you don't end up in the water, i wouldn't mind it. Only time you'll ever be able to troll ice fishing. -R-

Question of the day...Do fish eat french fries?......
Ramble replied to nautifish's topic in General Discussion
I watched a pike a raw potatoe that was sitting on bottom 2 years ago. I was amazed. -R- -
If i stayerd home and did nothing one more time when i could have been out fishing i think would have lost it. lol It was great to fight the cold and a few fish. Ya it was welcomed news. But i still would have liked to have gone out for a skunk anyway. Rather be out catching nothing, then sitting at home. However, i'm sure my fingers were glad i wasnt out in the early am. Yeah , i just kinda took it for granted. But today i thought about what my mother would say, and realized how special our little set up is. Nothing quite like a student house when a couple of the doodes spend time in the outdoors. In college we snuck a coyote in to my buddies basement appartment, slipped bacj a ceiling tile and skinned it right in the living room over some news paper. I'm gonna miss this stuff one day. Thanks for the replies fellas. -Dave
