The music thread is a pretty good indication that there's a wide variety of personal likes & dislikes among this group & as much as I dig music, movies are more to my liking. To be more specific I grew up on the great B-flicks of the 70's-80's & the DTV (direct to video) flicks of the early 90's. The vast majority of cinemas that used to play the greats have long gone, at least in Toronto, but they live on in video/digital format. I have over 3000 DVD's & Blu Rays (most titles folks have never heard of) & still a huge VHS collection (300+ last count). My hopes are that whatever you're watching, whether it be a TV show of today or yesterday or film you might post it here, hopefully introducing everyone to something new or missed. I'll start with 2 films I watched tonight. Both are from the 80's ( one from 1990) when big hair & big explosions ruled the day. PC Bulls#*t was non existent in the heyday which makes these films all the more enjoyable. Both films were from the same director, who had a somewhat short directing career in terms of theatrical films, but the films he had released are solid gold in my books. Just stopped at the Riverside Pub in Norland yesterday, great food & atmosphere. A lot of table reserved signs so guessing it packs around dinner time.

The few small guy's came on BB rigs with inflated worms, everything else didn't produce, I also have to learn the art of trolling in a canoe & should bring a better sonar just to map the lake. On dead flat water it worked ok, give a slight breeze & what was 20' is now between 5-10'. We were thinking about giving them a go but the blood loss from the dear flies alone don't think we could have spared any for the leeches. Next time though we will come prepared .

Like a lot of folks I've scoured over the stocking lists for Ontario lakes, & like a lot of folks my main target is Brook Trout. I recently bought myself a used ultra light canoe so I could enjoy the backwoods without borrowing someone else's stuff. A Nova Craft 15' Bob Special, Kevlar/Spectra blend & the spec sheet tells me 43lbs...I don't know but its hella light. Now I have a list of lakes that are calling but the first one is one I've had my eye on for a bit. Brock has fished it before & has gave me some pointers for the lake but high summer is a big gamble. Plus for my new canoes first trek I wanted something not to challenging in terms of portage to feel her out. A 3hr drive up + a long slug into the first puddle we go. Portage our way to the first lake we come across a snarling dog, don't know the type but all teeth. The owner catches up about 1/2 a minute later & the hair & teeth becomes Lassie, not quite the start I was looking for. Not a big lake buy any account but a really picturesque puddle all the same This was the main body, a small shoot off to my left put us into a fairly narrow part of the lake where the trail to the next lake is. After installing the horse blinders we paddled around for abit looking for the opening, Finally found it after trekking through frog water, quite a nice & not to challenging of a trail. it is roughly 1/2-3/4 km to the next lake & although you know you have a canoe on your shoulders, man I really didn't feel it, super light! Skeeters were out but not to bad, horse/deer or whatever you want to call them sumabitches, thick as thieves. The sight that meets us on the other end. Fantastic place!, I've put away my camera at this point when Ed was about to take a step into the lake & shuddered, "look at the size of these freaking leeches" , there were about a half dozen or so 6" leeches just begging him to stick his sandled foot in there. They buggered off pretty quickly, but it wouldn't be the last we see of them. Launch the canoe & start to pick apart this lake. Come fall or spring this place will no doubt produce numbers in some areas but today they were on island time. A beautiful rocky shoal that went from about 20" up to 12' or so then back down to 20 (see that orange/white thing under the seat, kinda a sonar, doesn't work to good) but it did produce our only fish we would catch this day, small guys but fun times. Not the lunkers we were hoping to (but know full well we wouldn't) catch, but a awesome day away from the city for some beers/whiskey good friends & laughs & a dunk of the canoe to end it off, brilliant stuff !!!

Anybody traveling out Nova Scotia way would be best served if they hit the Mic Mac Bar & Grill in Dartmouth. I prefer the old place over the new one but the food still speaks volumes. I'm a wing guy so I'm always on the look out for great wings & just so happens there's a great place not to far from my house. Drums & Flats, it has a great Rock & Roll motif & plays solid music even has live bands Friday & Saturday. The wings while not being to the heat level i enjoy do offer some very tasty flavors & are cooked the right way...grilled. Just off the 401 @ Avenue Rd. Port Dover is my Ma's hometown, haven't eaten at Callaghan's in quite a few years. Used to enjoy Port Dover as a kid before the big change. There used to be a restaurant on Walker Street where Dave's World is/was that had the best perch fry & the little amusement park out back was very cool. Thanks for reminding me I'll have to make my way down there again.

Can't wait to read the report when you get back. Arctic Char are very high on my fishing list, just need to plan my way up there one day!

They seemed to be around the 30' mark & ya the first couple were air born before you could act. Caught a few shakers too (Kings), one didn't make it off the boat, turned into sushi....not my thing but not bad. We were out of St. Catharines yesterday

Working in the pharmaceutical field can be interesting & fun to frigg'n stressful at our production shutdowns. We are at one of the stressful times right now but what has made it rather fun is some of the people from around the globe that come to our work place to work on some of the specialised equipment. One such gentlemen is up from Arizona and working with him over the course of 2 weeks has been great so Bain (sleepsjigging) & I decide to take him out for some good old Canadian fun & fishing. We had a plan to take him up to Balsam Lake but plans changed due to me having to work so Bain took him to Simcoe & they caught various pan fish & some bass. So on the day I knew I wouldn't be involved at work we decided to take him out on the big blue & to say he is hooked is the understatement of the year. We were hoping to get into some Kings but they wouldn't play this day however the Bows showed up & put on some of the best acrobatic displays I've witnessed on the big lake. Just a fantastic day & wiped the stress away............ now back to the grind!
