  1. Thanks! Heading out again in the morning. Water temps have dropped 7 degrees in the past week so I'm thinking they should be biting!
  2. Sometimes we do, but mostly we just jig different depths until we contact fish. If we get one we do the same drift again.
  3. Reel: Shimano Calcutta 400b Rod: St Croix Mojo Musky Heavy
  4. Honestly I prefer casting, jigging hurts my arm and shoulder after a while...however you are right, on those crazy cold days when casting will freeze your hands, jigging is much preferred.
  5. So over the summer I didn't film much musky fishing. I tried a lot of new spots on St Clair and started to learn how to cast the lake successfully. Now that the fish are starting to move into the rivers I'm back fishing hard and filming it. We went out last week and the morning started from really slow. Casted as the sun came up with no luck. After a couple hours we decided to start jigging. Again slow. Finally on the last drift of the day my bait got SMOKED by my new personal best musky. A solid 49" x 19". Just short of 50" but that will keep me hungry for the rest of the fall! Check out the video below!
  6. In this final part of our shark fishing trip I catch a 9ft hammerhead shark. Hammers are the strongest of any coastal species. In the first run in the video it is pulling 35lbs of drag like its nothing! So crazy
  7. Thanks! Boats getting fixed then it's back on st Clair for skis and smallie all summer!
  8. Fished until 5 am on this night. Two tiger sharks and a monster lemon shark!
  9. Thanks. Shark fishing is 50% catching and 50% about getting a clean release. Love seeing them swim off strong!
  10. Thanks guys. Ya I wish so bad we had fish that could rip drag like that in Ontario..
  11. So I spent the long weekend in Florida shark fishing with a buddy I fish for musky with here on St Clair. We got a lot of sharks. A bull, a tiger, a lemon, and a hammerhead. I split the videos into 3 episodes based on the nights they were caught. Here is the first night, where I caught a bull shark on spinning gear!
  12. Yeah I usually spend about 25 seconds trying and if I can't I just cut the hook. They will rust out after a few days so it's safer for the fish that way.
  13. Oh ya, I've caught 5 foot sharks on casted baits before the first sandbar
  14. I got my first pair of costas recently and I won't be buying any other brand maybe ever. They're incredible.
  15. Yes, I use a kayak to bring the baits out anywhere from 150-500 yards. It depends on the beach but a lot of the time the further the better. For bait, anything fresh and bloody usually works. Sometimes if I see another angler catch a fish he's going to release I'll ask him for it and kayak it out hooked live. I use a 8oz spider weight to keep it on the bottom in one place.
  16. Thanks guys. SirCranksAlot... I only swim in the ocean if it's clear, waist deep water. And never at sunset haha.
  17. So I got back to Florida again to get another weekend in of shark fishing this past weekend. We had heard that the water temps had got into the 70s meaning the bigger sharks were starting to move. After getting skunked the first two nights we set out again the third. Right at sunset, I had a good run but set the hook too soon. An hour after that another bait got picked up and the fight was on. Thirty minutes later I had my biggest shark to date on the beach, a lemon over 8'. The next night I put my buddy on his first shark. We also lost something huge to a broken line. The video of the catches is here: Now it's on to walleye season back here in Canada on the Detroit River!
  18. Yeah man those pictures have basically gone viral... Crazy how big they are. Those things will put the biggest reels money can buy to the test.
  19. Haha you know you're becoming a Florida fisherman when it's 18 degrees celcius and you claim it's "cold"
  20. Honestly I just look through different websites for deals. They weren't good flights (Thursday at 9am and Monday at 6am both with Spirit) but I'll take anything if I can get to Florida for cheap.
  21. My parents rented a place for the winter and I found a $100 round trip flight, so 2 weeks after leaving Florida I was back! We started out by going to the marina to catch bait fish. For some reason they weren't biting, but a charter boat came in and gave us two grouper carcasses and a kingfish carcass after fileting them. We had big baits! Went out that night and had one run but I set the hook too soon, not factoring that big baits means you have to give the shark the time to eat it. The next night we went out. I had a run right at sunset and lost it just 50 yards out. I was very upset now being 0/2 but put another bait out. An hour later the reel went off, a long, slow, but steady click. Could it be a winter Bull shark?!? I set the hook and we were on. A half hour later I landed the biggest shark of my life. A 8' 250lb bull. Amazing. The video is here: On our last night we had 3 runs. The first dropped it. The second straight "freight trained" my brother eventually breaking him off, I think it was another bull or even a tiger. The third we landed and it was a nice Sandbar shark. Overall amazing weekend!
