  1. A patriotic dock anyhow! lol

Wish the wind would shift... the south wind is holding the ice pack in both Midland and Penetang Harbours and I can't get to Laker land.

You already caught your BIG Laker for this year Wayne....you might as well go golfing and forget about lakers for a while ;)

27 days to go before we're up at Temagami... :thumbsup_anim: ...I'll give you a call when I'm there!!

  2. What a great few days we've had...I really enjoyed that SW wind on Wednesday which ended up taking the entire ice that was in the Bay out to the main channel of the Ottawa River and went bye-bye along with 4 different docks and 2 half sunk boats throughout the day!!

Here's a few pics of the ice headin' out...

This is a pic of the river on Monday....

FINALLY......OPEN WATER SEASON HAS ARRIVED :Gonefishing::thumbsup_anim:

  3. I'm looking to get a couple deep cycles too. This page has helped me with some questions: http://www.windsun.com/Batteries/Battery_FAQ.htm

I would love to get Optima or ones like them but can't afford it. I will probably go for the CT Nautilus deep cycle. Has anybody tried the Nautilus? Is it any good?

I own a CTC Nautilus Deep Cycle Battery, 750 mca, Amp Hour Capacity: 103 , for 4 yrs now and it hasn't let me down yet..at a price of $120 you can't go wrong..It's mainly used when I get up to the remote back lakes for trout to power my 40lb Minn Kota Maxxum motor on my 12' tinny....I've gone 3 days (trolling) without having to change the battery....the only negative feedback I have is:......MAN, IS IT HEAVY to lug around...either that, or I'm gettin older and it just seems like it's heavier B)

  4. I guess I can't really comment too much as I've only ever seen an hour of WFN while visiting my son and it was enough to last me a long time!!!!..Don't really have time to watch TV at home as all my spare time is used to go fishin' instead of sittin' and watchin someone else catch fish :thumbsup_anim::Gonefishing:

  5. What a great thread!!

Here's a pic of my best friend Spanky!!....he died a few years back at the age of only 5yrs old from kidney failure....he was the smartest dog I ever owned and he never missed a day of goin out in the boat with me...He would actually bark to tell me I had a fish on while we were trolling and I wasn't paying attention to my rod!!

My wife was devastated, so I took her out for a drive and we picked these 2 brothers up at the Humane Society...they were the only ones left from a litter of 8 and we couldn't find it in our hearts to seperate them...

    Here they are today....

  6. Hey rickster, thanks for the reply.

Do you buy any chance remember what it cost you to get it across the border? Also how they shipped it to you.

Duber...I just ordered a few things from Cabela's (close to $100) and they charged me $3 for brokerage fees and $12 for shipping via U.S. Postal service...one of the items is a trailer receiver hitch for my ATV and is fairly heavy....

  7. Hi Warren,

I mainly target Muskies and Walleye here on the Ottawa River, as well as Rainbows, Specks, Splake and Lakers on smaller in-land lakes...

1st boat is a 20' pontoon with a 40HP Tohatsu motor that stays on the river from ice out in the spring to first ice in the fall.

    2nd boat is a 14' Smoker Craft with a 15HP Merc

3rd boat is my trusty lil 12'r that I've had for over 25yrs now....it's powered by a 40lb thrust Minn Kota Maxxum and is used on the small, hard to get to trout lakes..

The boat I've had my eye on for the past few weeks....

  8. Thanks guys....I only have a Canon Mini-Troll portable clamp on right now mainly due to the fact that I fish out of a 14' tinny....I remember catchin bottom last year not paying attention to the sonar and I almost lost the rigger out of the boat...and.. as I frantically cranked the rigger up, I had a Laker on the end :thumbsup_anim: stirring bottom does work!!

  9. One thing I did notice was the fish had parasites all over them, and this is the second lake in the region I have seen this. I tried to take pics but they didnt turn out all that well. The parasite's almost looked like little magots around the fin areas of the fish. What are these?

I believe those parasites are: (copied from http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcont...t=zoonoticspub)

Salmincola: The genus Salmincola has a circumpolar

distribution and its members are relatively common on

salmonids in the region. Seven species infest these fish.

Salmincola carpionis attach to the mouth of Arctic

charr (Figure 13); S. corpulentus to the gills of lake cisco

and broad and lake whitefish; S. edwardsii to the gills

of Arctic charr and lake trout, and rarely to the fins of

Arctic charr (Figure 14); S. extensus to the fins of Arctic

and least cisco and lake and broad whitefish; S. lotae to

the mouth of burbot; S. nordmanni to the gills of

Figure 11. Adult female Coregonicola orientalis, without

egg sacs, attached to a lake whitefish (photo credit J.D.

inconnu; and S. thymalli to the gills of Arctic grayling

and inconnu. Salmincola have free-swimming larvae

that attach themselves to the outer surface of the fish.

These larvae move and shed (molt) their outer surface

several times before maturing to adults. During the

final larval stage the larger female attaches itself

permanently to the fish using a large, circular anchor

or bulla. Sexual reproduction occurs during this stage

or as an adult. The tiny male then disappears, and the

female remains to feed on gill and/or skin tissue and to

shed eggs into the water from her two egg sacs. The

adult females are typically about a centimetre in body

length. Heavy Salmincola infestations can lead to

secondary infections that kill the fish. Some lake trout

have over 50 S. edwardsii on their gills and Arctic charr

over 20 S. carpionis in their mouths.

  10. LOL Doug.... :clapping: ....I got a snap weight kit for Christmas this year....I used a buddies kit last fall on Quinte instead of riggers and was pretty successful :Gonefishing: .....

So, what is the main reason that some people still use steel line??? I can see using leadcore because it's color coded and gives you a fairly good indication of your depth, depending on your trolling speed, but I'm always curious when I hear someone talking about trolling with steel line especially nowadays when you can use downriggers, dipsy divers, etc, to get you to the desired depths.......
