Wow at Walmart?
I like the stand nice and compact. Get some line on it and tie on a spreader. Check the balance before going out. You want to keep the wire soemwhere around mid point. With the weight of the spreader you might have to move the wire forward quite a bit.
One trick is to back weight the end of the tip up with a washer or 2 and a bit of tape.
If you have any glow in the dark paint try it on the tips. Makes it even more visible in a dark hut.
I'm going to put the line on shortly and test it.....we're heading out tomorrow morning..thanks for the tips!! It's very compact....the stand comes apart as well so you can put it in your tote bag without worrying that it will break!!

I was going to make my own Whitefish tip-up until I discovered this one at Wal-Mart....$7.97
...it's made out of hardwood.... all I had to do was give it a quick painting and replace the crappy line that it came with!!

~~~I've had my Tracker VPro16.5 for 10 years now, and this year, shev starting to leak, but thats because off the 2 lost rivets. Had the same motor on it since I got it an 40 Tracker Force motor, and have not had any problem with it out side of the ones I've caused. Hope you get it straighten out before the lakes open, I use liquid weld to slow the leaks.
I've never heard of liquid weld.....Can I get this at CTC???
I also use an ABU 6500C3....for $130, it's a GREAT deal!!
Another way of getting to the area that you want to get to is by using a kite. This is good in fresh water in Ontario but is it very good on the beach when you surf fish. In surf fishing, usually the most important thing is to be able to cast to maximum distance.
carp-starter
Another way of getting to the area that you want to get to is by using a sling shot...place your lure on the band, pull back and let go....oh ya..forgot to mention..don't hang on to the treble hooks
Bark Lake was wide open 10 days ago...We were able to get our deposit back from the place we planned on staying at for this upcoming weekend!!
Nice report...those are some really nice trout!!!
I'm still walkin around with that e-mail copy in my pocket and don't what to do wit it
Because drunk people keep running over peoples children
It's NOT only children!!...the mortality rate of people involved in a Drinking and Driving incident, whether it be the driver or some innocent bystander is HIGH!!
I found this URL here in OFC that may have answers to your questions and I believe it is American...
-
Yup. There's so many variables to this formula. The real answer is that none of us know the answer.
I'll post a report when I get back...I'm surprised as to how many replies there are and i guess not too many of us use a cooler in the winter
...
Once we get up to the cabin and unload the food into the fridge, I'll forfeit a can of beer
, put it in the cooler and leave it outside
-
Awesome bows!!....Those bunny jigs look very similar to bead headed woolly buggers...hard to tell from the pics...
-
Just ask Mike to have a couple cases of beer ready to go when you arrive !
It's only 10 miles to the beer store from there !
Good one Wayne
.....I think Rick is planning on comin' out to see us Friday or Saturday afternoon..
Thanks for the post and pics Fang...I'm going Whitefish huntin next weekend and would like to build a few of those for me and the boys....could you please post another pic of a close-up showing how that wire is held in place with the elastics??....If a Windlass tip-up was balanced correctly, would it work as well as this wooden one??
Thanks,
Steve
Forget about that request for "could you please post another pic of a close-up showing how that wire is held in place with the elastics??"
....I figured it out and asked the wife for a hair elastic!!
Thanks again!!
Yea, at these temps you might want to wrap the cooler in a blanket, then a tarp or something like that.
Thanks for all the replies guys!!..Dano gave me an idea
....I'm going to put the cooler inside of my -25C rated sleeping bag and then secure it down really well to the ATV rack so it doesn't blow off on the road!!...The worse thing that could happen is that the beer won't be as cold as I'd like when we get up to the cabin!!
-
WOW..she has a good strong shot
...the Sens could of used her last night!!
-
It really depends on the quality of the cooler and the outdoor temperature. If you tried to transport eggs, fruit and veggies around here today, they'd probably be frozen within a mile or two. -28C here right now. -34C tonight.
Dan, it's one of those Coleman "Extreme" coolers....great in the summer...It's kept blocks of ice for 6 days during camping...Never used one in the winter..We're headin up to Temagami next week leaving the house at 05:00AM and the forecasted lows are in the -30C range...it's things like the eggs, milk, cream, lettuce cheese, etc...that I'm worried about... not the meat...now I'm wishing I would have bought a supercab instead of a regular cab pick-up!!!
-
Anyone have experience with using coolers during the winter months??...Me and the lads are headin 6hrs north next week for some fun and fish and I don't have room inside the truck for the cooler...The plan is to strap it down to the rack of the ATV in the back of the truck...
Will things like BEER, eggs, BEER, fruits, BEER, veggies, BEER, freeze within the 6hr drive???
Thanks,
Steve
I received a return call from a senior CO this afternoon to talk about this controversial reg...we both had a few laughs during our conversation...he said that word was spreading quickly among the districts that this reg was the "hot potato" of the week
Technically, the way that it's worded in the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, ONTARIO REGULATION 664/98, a CO could issue a citation for anyone not having a registration for a tent made of cloth or synthetic fabric that has a basal area of two square metres or less when erected. O. Reg. 409/04, s. 1.
The probability of this happening to someone using a portable hut (this is his example) is compared to a police officer charging you with speeding, if he caught you doing 1km over the speed limit...
He also said that they have better things to do than walk around a portable ice hut with a measuring tape to see if it exceeds the 2 square metres
...
The bottom line is that they use common sense when it comes to issues regarding regs as this one...the whole intent of this reg is to ensure that they can contact/charge a person using the registration# in their database in the event that the ice shelter is NOT off the ice in accordance with the date for hut removal for that particular Zone.
Here's the link to the e-laws:
This is absolutely hilarious
......I just called the Pembroke MNR Ice Hut registration clerk to register my Clam and she said seeing how my hut is portable and I'm using it for day trip only, I don't need to register it...
Call Nancy at MNR for more info...(613) 732-5502
This guy said that you need to register. I called the Parry Sound District office.
Carl Woods
1-705-773-4208
His direct line.
Im sure he could FAX what you need to know.
I just talked to Carl and he is the resource desk "clerk" for Parry Sound....he said that he was just going by what is printed in the 2008 regs.
..I asked if I could speak to an enforcement officer and he informed me that they were in a total different building elsewhere in Parry Sound..
Terry,
The email address won't do you any good because it was sent from her home ie..Yahoo.com
Her direct line at MNR is (705) 475-5569 and the name is Diane Jenner.....
Geez...I wish I would have seen this post earlier...Like Gerritt, I to am the main cook....My Grandmother was Hungarian and raised me from when I was 3 months old...I've learned everything about cooking from her
....
I just finished making Hungarian Cabbage rolls and Beef/Pesto/Cheese stuffed Manicotti (my wife is Italian) for our ice fishin trip weekend to Temagami tomorrow....
Here's some pics of the finished goods!! If I would have read this post yesterday, I could have posted the pics as I was preparing the dishes...I'll post the recipes when I get back next week!!
