  1. Wondering if anyone out there has good knowledge of electric trolling motors.

Used mine on the weekend for the first time.

Over the last couple years it seems mine is losing power!

I know my larger size isnt helping it along but it seems to have a 1/3 the power it always used to have.

Its a 24 volt non maximizer bow mount minnnkota , its about 7 years old.

I have two almost new Optima trolling batteries hooked up. Voltage is 24 volts to the unit.

I have checked under the prop for line and or debris, the one thing I notice is the grove the setpin sits in on the propeller is getting worn, is it possible that the prop isnt spinning all the time or do motors just lose there umph after so many years?

Man this is a big ticket item that I dont have cash to replace this year!

    Thanks

  2. Good for you braving that weather and nice fish!!

What is that tail spin lure you have oon that one rod?

I was out after trout in the Haliburtons and it snowed the whole weekend!

Also on your new Lowrance, is that how weeds appear on the bottom with the new colour units?

  3. I sure don't think I would make that trip if you have never did it before. The ones that make that trip are seasoned navigators of that area. I'm guessing it's not too bad if you have a big boat and come across the bay, but heads up as you get close.

However, If you do make it, the channel with the markers that ends in a dead end at Devil's Gate (Door)is a great area for trolling for muskie and walleye. We have caught all of our muskie in that stretch, especially around that shoal in the middle as you head in from the bay. I had my best luck banging crankbiats off the rocks. However, I have seen them in the smaller inlets and channels.

Thats a nice muskie, now if I can just find the spot on my charts.....very overwhelming trying to find anything on the charts!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  4. Not sure where Beaverstone Bay is?

I have only been to the western bays from the Bad west.

I am horribly paranoid of rock strikes being way out there. I will be doing most of my running with Ned on rock look out!

Looking mostly for some good pike and bonus muskie action.

Am planning a week so I should be able to cover alot a water ( or not if I find a good area)

  5. Planning trip to the mouth of the French this JUne.

Going to launch at the mouth of the key and work our ways over.

I have been to the bad river mouth area bur not the various bays and inlets from the key to the river,

Planning on camping for 3 days at various spots, I have chip of the area so navigation shoudnt be a problem.

Would appreciate a few tips to maximize the good spots from the multitude of spots the "loook good"

  6. I have felt the same way for about 6 years now, he makes ALOT of errors in his calling of the game, especially players names. Too bad great announcer.

Still not as great as Dick Irvin tho, now I am showing my age.

They need to get the guy that does the major junior games. He started as the Belleville Bulls announcer many years ago....... Just cant remember his name.

  7. Genetically modified fish such as hot water treated triploid's ( causes them to not develop reproductive organs boosting over all growth ) and fish from limited access waters have been accepted as new world records the last few years.

I myself am COMPLETly against this as I see it as not being ethical and not good for the sport in general.

I see it takes away from the rare catchs by " Joe Public" that are truly one in century catches.

Dont get me wrong it still takes a angler to trick and catch these fish but when you take away outside forces ( I.E. Fishing Presssure ) and add unnatural fish to an ecosystem it really lessons the whole uniquness of the catch.

  8. I had the big boat hauled today so I could finish installing the transducers.I got it all wired up and it was off to play with it. I must say it is a really powerful fishing tool. I went out to 4 ft of water and turned on the sidescan and set it off to scan 30 ft left and right. I was able to see clearly rocks, weeds and navigation pilings. The bait fish did not show up or I haven't found out what they look like yet.I then went out to deeper water and set up for bottom scanning. I was using the 200 khz on the sonar and 800 khz on the lss-1 unit. The difference once set up is amazing. The 800 looks more like an x ray than a sonar unit. The sonar would show a small red bump and the sounder would show a small hump/rock. In the water column the red blips would show up as ghost shadows either tight as a fish or gapping as a bait ball. I still have alot to learn but after 1 1/2 hrs it looks like a tool that is very useful for anyone who fishes in water that is usually over 20 ft.

Very cool, I want to get one bad!!!

  9. Is this Bill Watters??????????

"If you actually look at who we have drafted, considering the picks we have had recently, you'd be quite surprised at how well our scouts have done. How can they be expected to draft Sidney Crosby-like players when they never have a 1st-round pick? Do me a favour, actually look at their draft record in the last 5-7 years, and then get back to me.

Matter of fact I did, would you like to see the list.................. some real game breakers in here!!!! LOL

    First Pick 2006: Jiri Tlustly http://www.tmlfever....tHistory.htm...2 <LI>

    First Pick 2007: Dale Mitchell http://www.tmlfever....tHistory.htm...3 <LI>

    First Pick 2008: Luke Schenn <LI class=last>

    First Pick 2009: Nazem Kadri

And this present team is going ..where??????

No draft picks coming and you finished second last in the league.

    Great plan!

  10. Looks like I am in the minority here.

I think Burke is a HORRIBLE GM . He seems to be building a team for yesterday and not tomorrow. Size over skill.

His aquistions have been marginal at best.

Beauchemin has been exposed as a overly priced defenceman , Leaving the side of Neidermeyer has exposed his lack of skills.

The trade for Kessel I would understand if this was 3 years from now but if you are going to rebuild you keep that pick and have a chance at Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin. if you are rebuilding you do it thru the draft! But then again the Leafs have the worst scouts in the NHL so maybe he doesnt have any choice.

Trading Kaberle will be the worst thing they do, none of there present D possess puck movement skills to get the puck out of there own end.

A goaltender that has a bad heart, hence the reason he wasnt drafted.

Jeff Finger ( You paid what for whom? ) this was an actual headline on ESPN after this aquisition!!!

Phanuef hopefully works out buut his stock has fallen over the last few years as he has been showing more and more defensive liabilities. I ope playing under a bigger microscope helps and doesnt hurt his game.

Same for Giguere , his numbers have been sliding very badly over the last few years , maybe a change of scenery can reignite his game. If not you have a 33 year old goalie and one with a bad ticker....not good after you had Rask

ill give him credit for Bozak and Stalberg, some potential there, but that is over shadowed by good players th.ey have let go like Stempniak and Rask.

There only chance is to rebuild thru trades which the Maple Leafs have tried for 40 yeaars ( we seen how that works)

No draft picks , no future.

But what does it matter, winning is not important to the worst team in North American sports....just the bottom line as lemmings file thru the gate to watch Junior B hockey!
