  1. Compared with what you have I feel the biggest adjustment would be room. The cabin on the jeep and interior space is considerably smaller than the GM you are use to.
  2. It would seem there are lures designed to catch fish and there are the other lures that are made to catch fishermen! That's why those that buy lots will eventurally return to the tried and proven baits.
  3. Once the kiddies go back, after this weekend, it will be quiet everywhere. My favorite week to take off historically was next week and I'm on a somewhat busy portion of G Bay. Almost like a ghost town after Monday..... I'm confident where ever u rent should be peaceful. Hopefully the fish will cooperate for you. Good luck!
  4. Saying that Erie's walleye population is healthy with a majority of fish over two feet does not add up to me. Would'nt a healthy population have equal amounts of every year class? Something seems fishy! Yes, I understand they grow quicker in Erie but you should still be catching a good amount of smaller and medium ones if the population was indeed healthy.....What's going on? Is our American brothers only releasing 5 pounders? No... Are there so many ski's they are eating up the little ones? I don't know, maybe? Just an observation... Any thoughts on this? That being said if you cut up the large fillets in scallop size pieces and wrap them in bacon, barbecue, with sauce, they taste great! Good going on the harvest!
  5. I found one in my gramps box back in about 80, used it once and caught the only rainbow (4-5lb) my family has ever caught where we are on G Bay. Give it a try! I thought it would work good for pike....
  6. Hopefully your code is intermittant and does not come back right away after clearing. If it comes back within a couple of hours of operation then you need to repair the problem, clear the codes and drive it for a couple of days so it will be in a ready state to test. Hopefully you know someone with a code reader or laptop/cable/software that can do this. Or as Bill mentioned you could unhook the battery overnight. k Darn money grab! I believe southern Ontario is the only region left in Canada doing this Bull.
  7. Ironworker, I would base an area around my cottage. Try to keep to properties within 100 miles. Ppl are getting $1500 or more for a relatively basic waterfront property for a week. I think a 1/3 cut would justiied, especially when the place would be cleaned and inspected and otherwise lay dormant. Being in multiple places wold not bee much of an issue either. I would just use lock boxes on the more remote front doors like real estate agents use. That way clients can get in and start unpacking and as long as you get there somewhat early on the first day I don't think there would be any issues. I wouldn't generally meet for check outs unless I got a bad feeling about a renter..... Getting reviews could be difficult. I know when I get asked to review places I've been and enjoyed I would treat it like a good fishing spot. lol. Perhaps have the review like a questionare so you just have to pick a, b, c, d for say 20 questions and if they do it send them a electronic voucher good for a couple points off their next booking. Once the kinks have been worked out you could potentially expand with other area's using your proven methods. Just some thoughts.
  8. I was kicking around a business idea a few years back. There are many families trying to hang on to their cottages for obvious reasons. Most would welcome having some rent money but how can you if your in the smoke through the week? Everyone has heard of property management but what if you applied it to cottage renting? It would start by working with the owners and accessing their property and if criteria is met make it rentable by removing unneccesary things and adding what customers would expect. Come up with a rate with damage deposit and work out availability. Creating an inventory list of all items. Meeting customers when they arrive and give them instructions on a particular cottage. Come by once they left to access the condition of the place, have a maid service clean it, and check inventory. Now it's ready for the next renters or owners. Have a web site listing all potential properties and perspective rental periods and guarantee a certain standard. Have a review section where ppl could read about previous experiences.
  9. Wow, just a hair under 8lb average for the winner. Thats just amazing! I gotta start fishing Erie....
  10. Thanks for the reply Big Guy. I was going to mention that probably 50% of the park was filled with Michiganders, even way back then! It was primarily whitefish ppl went for, then walleye. I can understand wanting to catch whities in the winter, especially if your getting them from say Simcoe, where they become rather soft and hard to locate in the summber. Up there though they were quite firm and much smaller. The schools came around like clock work The biggest ones we would get were about 5 lbs and that was very rare. Most were in the 1.5-2.5 pound range. Good to hear that they are still there!
  11. Hello All, Just joined this forum. Been lurking for a bit as I had a problem getting validated so I could post. Anyway you guys speaking of Wakami sure brings back boat loads of memories. My family travelled around many provincial parks back in the 70's through the mid 80's. Once we went to Wakami we never went anywhere else! I'm wondering what has happened to the place due to the posts here though? We targeted whitefish back then. You went out to the pack in the morning till about 9:30 and the the evening after 5 and usually caught many beautiful whities on swedish pimples. Smoked them in the supplied smokers with cherry wood. We called it making candy. If we wanted walleye we had a couple of locations we hit that always produced. We never targeted and rarely caught a northern. Sorry, but can't imagine making that drive for gators. It was this time of year we visited. Has the whitie population disappeared? Thanks for taking me back!, Renegade67
