  1. I have used 8lb on my spinning for 3 seasons and while I cannot complain about the strength (I drag weeds out of Rice Lake by the roots) I can second anyone who complains about the memory. It really is quite bad and you will lose line to birdnest/tangles often. Try something else, I plan to. RJ
  2. Great report. Too bad the weather wasn't condusive for a great week of fishing but at least everything else worked out well for ya. Apparently you probably could have slipped the guy at the front desk a couple Rapala's for the upgrade. My parents always raid my tackle box for old lures before heading to Cuba to give as tips. Cheers RJ
  3. Thanks for the input everyone. I think braid seems to be a good option by general consensus. I like PP just because I use it on my baitcast setup and I have not been given any reason to hate it. I appreciate your thoughts on other options but I'll stick with what has worked great for me. Thanks RJ
  4. Hey everyone long time no speak. Well after many years I have come to a point where I have to question my choice of line on my spinning outfit. (currently P-line fluoroclear) I was fishing smallies on my buddies lake this fall and the spool memory was making my life miserable since we were fishing in 20+ water. Will the lack of memory in PP/braid eliminate a good chunk of the line twist? I usually have to pull a section of line every other trip and either untwist it (drag it without a lure behind an idling boat) or cut out a section that has gone birdsnesty on me. Thanks RJ
  5. You can go with 12lb mono or some kind of braid but the leader is an absolute necessity. And make sure if you are using lighter line that your drag is up to snuff. Pike can give a drag a real good workout. I use 80lb Fluoro that I tie myself.
  6. I saw the lineup of cars that couldn't get down Bayview cause the Humber was flooded. And apparently some cyclist was trapped by the flooding for like 5 hours too.
  7. If anyone here wasted their money and went to see The Happening you have your answer. And not the unexplainable nature part, its the seaweed fighting back!

    JOBS

I am an Intern between my third and Fourth year of a Civil Engineering Degree at Ryerson University. I currently work as a technologist doing Research and Development in the Oil and Gas pipeline sector. I also work part time selling computers at a Best buy. Having two jobs sucks, but i know what I want in life and I know I gotta work my arse off to get it. What am I doing when i graduate? I'll let you all know when i do. RJ
  9. As far as the fishing goes just look at the main lobby of your resort. If you booked with a large tour group, there will be a activities coordinator person in the lobby that'll set you up with a Charter for a set price. I went out for a half day for 90 bucks (shared charter with a bunch of people from other resorts) I caught the Dorado in my photo. 3 of us caught fish in one triple header. we also saw a mother Humback with calf and I say another humback do a full breach about a km away. Just make sure you bring some seasickness meds because the tradewinds leave you with 10-15ft rollers the whole time. Better safe then chucking when you should be reeling! We stayed at the Punta Cana Princess and it was nice. My parents liked the Grand Bahia Principe better when they went a couple years ago. RJ
  10. Thanks Raf, nice and close to me too. RJ
  11. I was fishing on Sunday morning when i realized that something was missing from my reel. Apparently at some point I lost the cast control cap (the little screw on cap beside the handle) It does not seem to have any really negative affect on my casting but I definately want to replace it. I have a Quantum Energy PT X-Metal (model E861XM I believe) Where might I find a replacement cap, I tried quantum's part website but couldn't find my reel in their lists, and what it might cost me? Thanks RJ
  12. Thanks Verminator, picked up two last night at Lebarons RJ
  13. I was kind of hoping to get it for this weekend and International orders are generally 7-10 days. I will have to check LeBaron on the way home. RJ
  14. Does anyone know of a reliable shop to find 1/2oz titanium spinnerbaits? I live in Mississauga and dont mind a little driving. I found 3/8oz ones at Lebaron a couple years ago. Every time I go to BPS they are sold out and LeBaron only carries 3/8oz ones. Any help out there? RJ PS I hate the 1/2oz SS ones because I have had pike and bass strike them and put them out of true without being hooked.
  15. Has anyone reported this to the MNR yet? I am sure they would not be impressed that a public forum was being used to encourage illegal activities? RJ
  16. Why would you want to eat a bucketmouth anyways. In my opinion (and i'm sure many here would agree) there are tastier fish (Perch, Pickeral and Crappie) in most Bass lakes that usually have less worms to pick out. I am embarassed to think I used to read that rag on the way to school. Email away! RJ
  17. I hope to be out there sometime after 1pm gotta do the yardwork first. Rob
  18. Use a leader bigger then 40lbs. I have had a big pike shear clean through a 40 lb leader and It is not fun. Now I use an 80lb Fluoro Musky leaader and Have hooked 4 fish (2 shook off) without a single nick in it. As far as lures go, Minnowbaits work very well but never underestimate the power of the trusty old spoon. Also consider large senko style baits. RJ
  19. Try some closed cell foam or similar floaty something? and attatch it to the front and back of your leader. For visibility sake put it over the knot to your mainline and under the first bend of your hook under the sluggo. I assume the sluggos are texas rigged with a really big worm style hook?
  20. I was up at my friends cottage just above Three Brothers Falls. There isn't much to catch above the falls but below there are plenty of decent fish. Just be careful because the shore on the East Side of the falls is private property and the owners tend to be real Jerks about it. If you can Canoe up and onto the West side you dont have to worry about that though. I caught a couple 1lb smallies below the falls before I got shooed away though.
  21. They will definately work to keep the weeds off. I have used them on a crankbait before and it'll definately do the job. Unfortunately I just dont have any confidence in them hooking any fish unless they crush the lure. For inlines I personally would switch out for a bigger single hook and probably but a soft plastic trailer and rig it weedless. (It's what I do for spoons.) I have more confidence in hooking the fish this way. I rarely use inlines anyway so take my words with a grain of salt. Cheers RJ
  22. longer rod and larger reel. Line is minor and gives you a difference of maybe +/- 5% on your casting distance from my experience. I switched from mono to PP on my baitcaster and I noticed the PP casted more accurately but as far as distance goes I never could tell. I think the mono would probably cast better anyway. PP sticks to neighbouring strands on the spool and has more friction coming off then mono IMHO. I use a 6.6 quantum xtralite and used a quantum xtralite reel until last year and the casting distance was mediocre at best. I moved to a diawa spinning reel 1500 size and I increased my casting distance substantially and I am still using the same line, 4lb flouroclear. For a part flouro line I have been really happy with its performance. With the xtralite average cast appx. 20-25ft - casting 1/32 jigs with 1inch tubes With the Diawa 30+ with the same lure and even though it is a heavier reel the balance is better which makes it feel lighter. RJ
  23. That was quite a trip for you Wayne, just think of it as getting an entire summer's worth of bad luck out of the way at once (maybe 2 summers if it was one of the really nice Canon's) I do hope your next trip goes much better for you. RJ
  24. I use 45lb fluoro on my pike leaders and they stand up pretty well unless I made a booboo when I was making them. I wouldn't go any lower personally but plenty of people do. As far as walleye go I simply match the diameter of my old line. So I use 50lb PP on my baitcaster where I used to use 12 so I use a 12 pound fluoro leader for bass and walleye. Hope this helps RJ
  25. Now you'll need to get biohazard gear just in case you get into some of those legendary Coney Island Whitefish!!!! Yikes... RJ
