  1. Hey folks, so it's my first season ice fishing. NAW taught me early, a smitty is your friend! So I built one! Works perfect, even trailerable. The only problem is it's too wide for me to use my split rear seat allowing a third person to sit in the car. So with my wife out of town and the kids busy with stuff in the city I built colapsable aluminum smitty #2.
  2. Like a charm! I switched from a straight blade auger to a curved fin bore 3 style blade and people can't believe how it rips! Now I hope we only have huge fish pics to post!!!!
  3. That's Bosch! My business is very drill oriented we have several of every type. I have a 5 year old dewalt 18v with a 20v battery adapter and 5ah battery and I've drilled a dozen 6" holes since charging last with not even a sign of fatigue... maybe it was just a bad battery????
  4. x2
  5. Ok ok you guys are a total buzz kill.... I'm not investing heavily in this, but it's gonna stay in the back of my mind as I begin to assemble parts
  6. Exactly there's a video on tbe net of a guy with a stand on conversion that looks incredible... works great in the video! Im gonna do this! From what i understand the transmitions and drive systems outlast the auger blower parts that are more succeptanle to rust etc.
  7. They have things tha5 fit the bill. No ins or registration but they are $4500.00. My idea was repurposing something that is otherwise scrap, that can be easily transported and fits in a normal vehicle... once we add in a trailer and all the other stuff it's easier to just walk.. .
  8. Ok the point I was trying to make is I can't believe I'm the first guy to try or actually make a powered sled. Even if it only goes as fast as a brisk walk, but carries you and a sled full of gear it would be awesome IMO. The other factor was weight and space that it takes up the other 350 days a year.... I'm looking for a snowblower with tracks now btw. If anyone has one kicking around....
  9. Good point.... but there are track driven versions that might work. Or that might be why
  10. So, although I'm new to the ice fishing game, I realize that albeit great exercise, walking isn't always fun. The options available aren't great either, nor are they inexpensive. So I did some googling after seeing the snow dog sled in action. So although they may not be super fast this can carry your stuff out pretty good Id say... Thoughts????
  11. I kept my drill and downsized to a 6" auger. Works like a charm!
  12. Hi folks, I just had to tell some people about how happy I am with Eddy Bauer. I bought a jacket at the outlet in Buffalo about 10 years ago. So, with it being 10 years old I decided to make it my new work jacket. So' here I am building my smitty sled and I hack off the back of the skis I used with a grinder. Slice the jacket open in the process and there's feathers everywhere. Take it in to the store at Vaughn Mills and they gave me $70 for it, then discounted a new one further so I walked out with a brand new $170 dollar jacket for $14! Hard to beat that! So they deserved the gratuitous plug from me...
  13. Was a jew? did you convert her or is she still one? lol I work in film a bit too. We are electricians and practical wiring experts
  14. Hey Pump I remember you from the kayak site, Sold my yak, bought a small boat. I believe they were floaters, the brand was some initials. The Rapala stuff was not float but ice fishing wear and it was $400... now the ice is pretty good everywhere, but if you were to ever go through ( I pray its never) How much would the suit be worth to you then? Just saying, there's alot to be said about perspective....
  15. Sail had some no name brand suits on sale cheap. Less than 200. And rapala 2 pc suits for around 400 on sale
  16. If only it was that easy to do! Ive been wishing for ages with no luck!
  17. I'm good for almost every species, staying at a hotel (not booked yet) therefore we are open to other locations between there and here. Not taking the boat (going to Chicago first). Going late August...thanks for the help!
  18. She is, I just need to figure out how to make her keep me! I can only rely on my good looks to carry me so far!...lol
  19. Hi everybody, we are starting to plan a family road trip. On our way back, my wife suggested we stay at lake in Michigan for a few days to chill and for me to fish... So Im open to suggestions if anyones got any???? Thanks Sheldon
  20. So what's the answer? Smaller holes or bigger drills. Now it's not a cheap add on anymore....
  21. I only drilled a couple holes with my 18v drill, 20v battery combo. But my drills are not the cdn tire ones. They are the heavy duty, hammer drill versions that take a crap kicking! I hope it will fair better than that!
  22. There was this puffer that was the highlight
  23. There is the beach, we tried it and got nothing, waded way out and still nothing. I got a bunch of small guys hand lining. Across the street on the water break across the highway. It was fun but they were small fish. There is a public dick that is incredibly slippery and I got another unknown fish
  24. Hey Dutch, completely forgot my wife has a night booked away tonight. So sadly I'm not gonna be able to make it...
