There is and will be forever that debate until everyone has one or just having one in the commission of a crime is punishable by death. You have a knife, I need a knife, you have a gun, I need a gun, you have a nuclear devise I need one too so you don't use yours.

How have we failed the Bubble wrap generation.? Human DNA hasn't changed in 1 or 2 generations, or has it? How dismayed and desperate can a child feel to do this and do it regularly as compared to 20 years ago? Is their future so bleak that the only way to see themselves out is murder and suicide by cop? I know many young kids and they seem to be just fine. They are smarter, more informed, better educated than my generation yet most are very immature for their age compared to us Baby Boomers. Or is it just me? I knew exactly zero kids that were in therapy in their teens in the 70's and 80's. It seems to be common place today for kids to have seen a therapist at least once and I'm speaking from experience with nieces and nephews, God Children of which I have 6 and kids of friends. I don't think that's a bad thing and I know times have changed we seemed to be able to roll with the punches then. I just wish there was an answer, any answer. I saw an abrupt change in teaching and parenting 35 years ago, every kid got a " participation trophy", hell I watched kids soccer games 30 years ago where they didn't keep score because it wasn't about winning or loosing. I said then you have to be crazy. We weren't preparing them for real life, it's all about winning or loosing, one reason I stopped coaching Football. This thing has me deeply concerned. What can I do as Joe Citizen? What can any of us do? I was a Big Brother, coached minor and HS Football, but at 61 I don't know how I can make a difference today. We have many smart people here, what can we do collectively? How about an OFC scholarship program, or a OFC summer camp or mentoring program? I can't just sit here and watch CNN.

All fantastic pics folks. I love each and every one. I have a smile on. Thanks I needed that.

Yes the NL leader have better records but from what I have read most were games with much weaker NL teams. Thanks Brettiop that's easy to understand. I'm better with pictures.

He posted a warning to students in Oregon not to attend school today as well as a basic warning he was going to do something epic. So there was a warning. Are the feds down there and here too busy to not take domestic terrorism seriously? Apparently this is something that goes on with social media regularly. I don't envy the task that law enforcement has here or down south. The really sad reality was several people on line encouraged the shooter to do something. I just don't know where our societies world wide are going. From the nuclear threats from 3rd world countries with insane dictators with the ability to start a world war where no one can survive to the middle east disasters and the real threat of domestic terrorism. When I was a kid we had nuclear war drills, the Viet Nam war, Olympic terrorism in Munich but I never had to worry about going to school. I'm afraid some kid here will copy cat the more it happens down in the states, it happened in Alberta soon after the Columbine shootings. Is it time to have armed soldiers everywhere in North America? It has been that way in Europe for years now. I remember how unsettling it was to see Police with machine guns in the airports and on public streets the first time I went overseas in the early 70's. It looks like it's time here. I am willing to give up "more" civil liberties if it will save a single childs life.

First news conference on now CNN. Shooter threat was neutralized.
-
The US networks haven't interrupted programing for this. Is it that commonplace today? I am sick. Hold those kids extra tight tonight all. All speculation right now as to how the shooter was killed, so I won't say anything that CNN is speculating on. It is reported definitely that some students searched during the evacuation had handguns on them which is perfectly legal in Oregon. My kid would be carrying one if we lived down there that for sure.

I'm watching CNN and they are reporting a shooting at an Oregon Community College, 13 reported dead and 20 injured. Shooter reported dead. Not again......I pray for these souls This makes me sick to my stomach. The gun debate will continue.

I'm watching the replay of game 6 of the ACLS series Jays and A's from 1992, a game I attended and heckled Ricky Henderson for 9 innings. I think Henderson had more interaction with the fans than the game, it was fun listening to him trying to make a date with a young lady sitting in front of us. Mullets galore back then. The think that strikes me is the number of fans today that dress in Jays garb. Hardly anyone did back then now it is a Blue sea of Jays shirts and hats, neat to see. I can't remember who won, Jays I think, that was a while back. Of course they won that day, they won the ALCS, the rest is history and I hope history repeats.

" Hey Johnny D, look a Band Wagon, lets jump on and see what the fuss is all about!!"
-
Maybe I have it. Jays play the winner of the 1 game playoff of the Wild Card teams. Winner then plays for AL divisional series, 5 games?? 2 ALDS winners play for ALCS (7 game saries) Winner goes on to World Series against NLCS winners. Jays need to play for best record in AL to gat home field throughout ALDS and ALCS.
-
I told you who you tin foil hat wearing Yankee. Whaley. OK so what does the playoff picture look like now? I know there is a 5 game wild card series then what? Who plays next and then what ? I have looked at a few sites but haven't been able to get a good answer.

I can go on for pages discussing the pros and cons with real life experiences concerning handguns. What I will say, then I'll bow out, is that if I lived south of the border I would carry and conceal a handgun, legal or not. Living where we do I have no need to. I don't go to neighbourhoods here in Ontario where it would be prudent to have a weapon such as many neighbourhoods in Toronto and Hamilton. I know where not to be so I don't go there. I guess it is my right to go to any neighbourhood I wish but the reality is that there are places here I have no business to be. Just like here I don't drive around certain neighbourhoods in Gary Indiana, Miami, Detroit, Youngstown Pa. or Niagara Falls NY. If I am stupid enough or naïve enough to do so I may find myself in trouble. The same goes for Finch and Jane area in T.O.so I don't go there, period. JD out. -

It was JoPa I think that said he carried a gun to protect himself fishing. I can't quote here. It wasn't Art. I should have been more clear, please don't shoot. I went back and read his post. He said he often finds himself in a dark parking lot alone after fishing and it makes him feel safer having a gun. That tells me he takes his gun fishing to protect himself. -
2 out bottom of the 9th, 15-2. Clinch.

Having to carry a handgun to go fishing is absurd. Now I have had shots flung over my head while loading rods into the car on the side of the road after fishing in El Jobean Florida. My response was to not fish there anymore. I guess I could continue going there, get a handgun and shoot back. As they say " you're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy". I used to go down there almost every month for a long weekend, no more. I don't want to sit in the condo after dark and cower in a corner holding my gun. So I choose to cower in the corner of my home trying to stay warm. I own 2 places in the US and don't even go down there for vacations anymore. I collect the rent and hope to sell them soon as my vision and plans of living down south in my senior years have changed. -
How sharp is this team? Goins sees the infielders all shift to the right side switches and lays down an easy bunt left of the pitcher with no one else to field it. That's what a great team does. These guys are good. And he scores after the 2 out bunt. Have I mentioned these guys are good?

I had to get rid of my old wood stove because it didn't meet code for the insurance company years ago. I thought I would miss it more, I don't. No more going outside in minus whatever with the wind ripping off the lake at 70KPH. Lucky to have NG here.

Dr, David Suzuki (PHD in Zoology) in my humble opinion is nothing more than a talking head. His outlandish claims such as in 2013 when interviewed in Australian television was that Harper was building prisons to house environmental activists has resulted in his banishment from his own foundation. He brings up many things we do that harms the environment and gives little or no solutions. I attended an Iron and Steel conference at Mac where he chastised us for destroying the environment in the pursuit of capital gains. When it was pointed out to him the steel industry in countries like China, Russia and India have zero environmental appliances in place he sounded like the polished politico he is and gave a confusing retort that would make the best politician proud. I don't really care what he has to say, it's mostly Bull from a talking head. Justin may be a twerp but I know Suzuki is a con artist.

Only you know what career you will chase. I've had more careers since taking my pension that I had in my first 30 some odd years working. I d suggest you spend a few bucks and see a career consultant. They will put you through a battery of tests, an IQ test and the personality survey. If you have a problem with stupid people customer service might not be for you for example. If you worked construction sitting in the same chair for 7 hours will kill you in my experience. I found myself as a sales manager for a few years, I wanted to kill a few sales people I had, as well as a few nut bar customers that thought a good time was wasting my time. So as I suggested see someone that may steer you in the right direction. I bet they say you are best suited for construction.

I like that pic Bill. It looks like one of those strange planets in the sky on an old Star Trek episode.

NFL, CFL, anything Football thread

My head is still spinning from yesterdays marathon of pre game, games and recaps. My biggest surprise is how feeble Kapernak looks. The DC's have sure learned to play him since he burst into the league. Loosing Roman as his co-ordinator has really hurt him. Buffalo is looking really solid and talk about depth. Watching them squish the fish was fun to see. I remember not too long ago when Buffalo got a first down it was a big deal. Most impressive player yesterday was Atlanta's Devonta Freeman. 145 yards rushing, and knocking guys over like bowling pins. Most unimpressive, Colin Kapernick. I need to find how to spell that kids name. Most impressive team, Buffalo, least impressive a tie San Fran and Chicago. The Bears punted on every offensive series throughout the game. A NFL record I think.
