  1. I'm in Hamilton and been to the harbour (Pier 4) twice for a couple of hours each time with no luck. I was by myself using lures (I don't like using livebait as it gets boring just sitting and waiting). I usually catch something at Cootes tho... I was thinking of renting a canoe from a place by QEW bridge but after last time I'm almost ready to give up on the harbour. I've seen carp in the water, I know there's some bass and pike, what else? Is the harbour known for anything specific? Would like to hear of any good spots and lures to use? Thanks! ps: if someone doesn't want to sear the info public feel free to PM me.
  2. deleted...decided to post in a new thread.
  3. I got a Pike with the rainbow trout colored one. Also had orange and silver/red, but somehow managed to get them both snagged today and lost them. I would like to get a couple more but wasn't sure if I should get the same ones or there are better ones.
  4. I like Mepps Syclops lures because of how far you can cast them. What in your experience is the best colour for pike? Thanks.
  5. If I caught something like that my life would be complete...for a day or so
  6. Lol, just shearing my experience. I had a friend with me that can prove it... Never spent a dime at Sandboy actually and don't know anyone there either, but will be renting a boat from them in a couple of weeks. Edit: old cut had better prices and is located at a better spot, which why I went there first. But if someone doesn't want my money I simply won't go there.
  7. I don't belong to PITA and never will, but I could never use live frogs or mice as bait. For people who mention mice traps and how that's any different, people set mouse traps where they live because they don't want them in their kitchens/homes etc. Just like self defense is Ok, but murder is not, a bit extreme I know but in a way it's not that different.
  8. Thanks, how far would you have to go to get to 8ft depth? I remember reading that average depth is only 10 ft.
  9. I was camping at long point for bass opener and was looking to rent a motor boat. I called them to ask about their prices, some old woman answered and when I asked she said "Who is this?!" Who say that? You never had a customer call? She was just weird as hell! but later said Sat is booked but Sun should be good. So I and went in on Sunday asking if they have any boats for rent and she was there (recognized the voice) first I was just plain ignored, than some guy with out even looking at me says "I don't know", than the crazy lady yells at him "I'm not renting any boats!" I'm looking at them in disbelief about the total lack of customer service and just left. Just Wow! I would avoid that place at all cost! Next time I will go to Sandboy Marina.
  10. Thanks! love this site Btw how the pike/musky fishing nearby (Mitchell's Bay)?
  11. I would like to check out Lake St. Clair and was wondering if anyone knows a place that rents fishing boats on the lake?
  12. Very Nice!! Where did you catch those muskies? I've never caught one and looking for spots to fish.
  13. I don't have much experience with cranks, but understand they work well so I'd like to use them more. I have one now - Rapola Jerk but I haven't used it much because I'm scared it'll get snagged on the bottom I hate looking expensive lures! I'm still bummed about that Mepps Agila I lost lol. I'm fishing from shore and prefer heavier lures for longer casts. What would be a good crankbait that pike like and doesn't drag on the bottom too much? ps: I'm using a 7ft spinning rod with 20lb braided line.
  14. Nice fish! what river is that if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.
  15. Any suggestions/tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  16. Thanks I'll check them out! I heard it's better to fish in the fall, any point going in the summer? or are they all in deep water at the bottom?
  17. Lol, other than border crossing I've never been on Niagara river... I guess if there's lots of motor boats canoe would not be fun at all. Getting a big fish out of the water wouldn't be easy, but I've seen videos on youtube of people doing it and it looked doable, not ideal of course. I guess it would be too easy for people to illegally to cross over the boarder if they rented motor boats, didn't think of that. Getting a charter/guide would be nice but I cant afford that right now. How realistic would be to fish from the shore?? and where?
  18. I'd like to heard down to Niagara river in late summer/fall to fish for muskies since it's the closest place to me (Hamilton) where you can find them. Figured a small fishing boat or even a canoe would help a lot. I have a couple questions tho; can you find them everywhere on the river esp closer to lake Ontario by Niagara on the Lake? If so does anyone know of a place there that rents boats? thanks!
  19. I started fishing a couple of months ago and been hooked ever since! Surprised I waited that long, since I always enjoyed spending time by the water and outdoors in general. I already have 3 rods, net and a bunch of lures but for the time I've spent fishing (which is a LOT for the short period) I haven't had too much luck, or so it feels - came home too many times with out catching anything. Probably because I don't use warms (or other life bait) but I don't find it too exciting to catch small fish or sitting and waiting for a bite, I've been using spoons and spinners most of the time... I'm in Hamilton and really interested in going for pike and eventually muskie. I got one at Binbrook and would like to get more I've been once to Mountsberg, Guelph lake and Fanshawe but no luck at all! Can anyone suggest a good spot not too far and lures/ techniques to use?
