  1. Used to really look forward to there spring sale. $1 to spool a reel...never missed it...dating back to when they where still located on Simcoe South. I don't really need anything but I used to go for that and then "donate" money for other stuff while I was there.

No more $1 a spool. So no more donations either. Too bad. I always liked getting a "DEAL" and "Supporting" them. Now I can just go somewhere else when it is convenient instead of waiting for an "Event".

    Natalie are you listening?

  2. It's been awhile since I was at Bowmanville. It was a once a season MUST visit when my kids where small though. We all enjoyed it when the kids where young, but a half day is plenty of time to take it in.

Metro Zoo was also a MUST every year. Both different. But you can't go wrong with either.

I hope you get a nice day for your outing.

  3. Fin S Shad..colors Arkansas shiner or black with gold flecks on a 1/32 lunker city jighead hung under a float. In the Kawartha's or on Simcoe that is all you need. Spool up with nothing heavier then 4LB line and you are gold. Good luck at getting into a few. I will take a feed of perch over a feed of crappie anyday...but I do love fishin for slabs. I can't wait for the kawartha opener.

  4. Yeah that news got me thinking about mine as well. I guess that's what motivated me to invite my daughter and grandson over for lunch yesterday. Made her my lasagna....she thinks it's the best in the world... along with a few other things she likes and had a nice visit before I went into work at 3.

Didn't want her to think the old man was getting all soft and mushy in his old age though, so I kicked her behind in a couple games of cribbage while Lucas was having a nap. :w00t:

Enjoy all your family and friends. What's more important then that?

  5. Years ago I taste tested Rock bass, perch and crappie at the same time. Of those 3...Perch was my fav then rockies, then crappie. From cold spring water or through the ice they are great. Warmer water fish seem to have a stronger taste, so in the summer and fall I release them, or use them in fish chowder. They are no more boney then any other panfish, but there skin/scales are a lot harder to get through...so make sure you have a good knife or it can be frustrating.

  6. The bigger crappie have not yet moved in, it was quite the cold front, I would say within 1-2 weeks you'll see much larger sized crappie in there (I hope). However numbers wise, they're moving into the shallows, just make sure you got a really light setup.

I admire your dedication to fish in the conditions we had today. Hats off to you. Typically though the best crappie fishing there is the first 3 days to a week that the ice has moved out. Past experience dictates that the bigger crappie have come and gone already. Wednesday night was good for bigger slabs. Many 10-12 inchers caught that evening. Those fish are long gone now.

  7. LOL...some of us actually "like" to make it hard ;)

Browns on the fly are a blast....so there! :P

Haven't seen Kyle around here in a while?

Must have joined the AFNC :w00t:

Kyle's old man and mine are neighbors. The last I heard he was out in Alberta living in God's country, with no internet access.

BTW I was just yanking everyone's chain about making the Brown fishing too hard. Getting out for a day on the water is what it's all about. The rest is just details.

    Good fishing to all :Gonefishing:

  8. Jeez I grew up in Fergus. Close to the hydo line pool, which is a no kill zone. I go back every couple of years and fish the Elora stretch with my brother, who still lives in Elora. 2 Inches of dew worm on any kind of sharp hook you can find, does the job. I'm thinkin you guys are turning it into WAY TO MUCH WORK!!!! I'm sure Kyle M...my dad's old neighbor out in West Gary would agree.

  9. Good job Bruce. A beauty day to be out with a fishing buddy...and some fish to boot. Can't beat that !!!

I know you and the puppies will enjoy the fish fry...cause I've had fish dinner at your place, and it was awesome.

My perch heaven is about 20 days away from being prime time....so keep the pictures and reports coming to keep me sane.

  10. Not an expert Brian. But the pinkies do work. I do have way more confidence in the steelie jigs though. Last year I did awesome on them. It was the first year I gave them a real honest try and I was pleasantly surprised. I also really like the fact that the more I use jigs the less roe I use..which of course means less fish kept for spawn. Not to mention less tying roe bags. It's a win /win in my opinion.

The eastern tribs I fish seem to have a pretty common pattern. Roe at first light until 8-8:30ish...or when the bite slows. Then switch over to jigs. I find jigs work awesome mid morning to mid afternoon. Then back to roe to fish the end of the day.

I have the most confidence in black, black/purple, black/chartruese. I know the lighter brighter colours work. The conditions I tend to get out on seem to favor the dark colors though.

Hoping to hit a trib tomorrow after work for my first 2009 STEEL.

  11. On a side note,we were asked today if we would all be willing to do the work share. This is make us succesful in the end.99% said yes.So our company has applied.Thats how you keep your job.Give alittle and be thankful for what you got.

Our company was one of the first ones to do this in the early eighties. It was Heaven. Get a 3 day long weekend every weekend and work 4 days. And after taxes etc, etc all you lost was peanuts. Don't know why more companies don't consider it. Keeps your workforce intact and everybody wins. The employees and the company.
