  1. We used to go to Camp Horizon on Muskosung Lake just outside Sturgeon Falls. Not alot of bass in the lake...compared to the walleye population anyway. My brothers family went there as well but with inlaws and always a different week then us. He told me that out for bass one night they got some nice 3-5 Lb eyes on surface baits...so when we went up next I was determined to give it a try to see if I could get eyes on top water. Managed 2 my very first night and always rigged a rod for surface walleye fishing after that. Got a fish or 2 pretty much every night this way when we went there. We would do the evening walleye bite the traditional way with jigs and live bait then switch to a bassy weedy area in 6-8 fow for an hour on our way back into the dock. Perhaps the pattern worked because it is not a "BASS" lake..I dunno...but it always worked and the walleye taken this way where always of a larger size then the eaters we would normally catch.

  2. Good job. Those "surprises" are part of what makes fishing so much fun.

They will hit at the surface but it is very uncommon.

I dunno...one lake I fished every year for years we got just as much eyes on surface lures after dark as bass. From that experience I assumed it was pretty common. Maybe some others can chime in with there experiences.

  3. Bridgenorth Sports gets my vote, probably cause it's the only decent tackle shop around here. Frank is a friendly enough guy and will try to get anything you want. Prices are obviously higher than Lebaron or BPS but there is something to be said for friendly, local service.

Very impressed with this place as well. It is not in my fishing area so I was only in there once while passing through 2 summers ago. Could not believe the amount of stuff they carried. If it was in my area I would be a regular for sure.

  4. Sometimes bigger is not always better. So what makes your favourite tackle shop so great?. Is it selection, price, the people, the location, please explain.

One of my favourites is Kawartha Lakes Outdoors in Bobcaygeon because of the unique line of baits you don't see anywhere else and the knowledge from behind the counter is a big plus.

I don't even think it's the best tackle shop in Caygeon. You wouldn't be related to the owner's would you  Been going to Mark's Worm Warehouse out on the highway for years. KLO has nothing on him. I went in KLO once when it first opened. Nice enough fellow in there and I got a free donut from him. I wish them luck...but seriously even BUCKEYE has more stuff and so does the little convenience store out beside Nogies creek. So I would rank KLO 4th in Bobcaygeon. You are related to the owner... right :whistling:

  5. It's a lot of work, but those gleaming jars look oh so nice when they are all full. If I get down again this winter for smelt I'd be honored to do a taste test to see if your pickle skills are as good as the bosses. The ones I had last winter where bang on!

  6. .a marina in belwood charged a buddy 200 bucks for a starting problem he had...turns out one of the bolts holding the starter wasn't getting a ground....25cents for the bolt $199.75 labour...thinking of changing careers!!!!!!!!!

I left the Belwood/Fergus area in 1981. If you are referring to who I think you are, that guy was a crook 28 years ago. I still have family back home that way and am astonished every time someone mentions that they are still in business.

I can't help with any Peterboro locations but I have dealt with Buckeye marine in Bobcaygeon since I bought my first boat from them in 1998. They have always looked after me well. Can't tell you if there prices are high or low compared to others cause I never looked elsewhere because they have been good to me.

Over Lindsay way our own Big Cliff will probably be able to help you out. He's a straight shooting honest fellow who you can't go wrong with either.

Good luck with your "new toy"

  7. Bunkbeds Skud..........Bunkbeds. You can have your cake and eat it too ;)

Gotta agree with the above statement. Lotsa large farm families where I grew up. Most of my friends never had there own private bedrooms. Big families always manage...and its a good life lesson taught early...showing the younguns how to live within your means.

Not tryin to preach to the choir here....cause you gotta do what's best for you and yours.

Good luck with whatever road you take.

  8. Three great shots. I especially like the last 2. Can't decide which of those 2 is my favorite. Kudo's to you for taking the time with Botbot to teach her about fishing and our natural surroundings. It is time well spent. My daughter loved fishing, or at least spending time with DAD...until she discovered boys <_< ...but now her son just turned 1 and Grandpa is looking forward to fishing with the wee ones again :thumbsup_anim:

I'm gonna let my little guy learn to walk before fish! (Even though some of you might disagree!)

Had my daughter out ice fishing....in a heated hut...when she was 3 months old. I really can't remember if we caught anything, but I do remember all the fishermen in the Bombadiar on the way in and out fussing over Erika and the big smile on Debbe's face the whole time people where fussing over her pride and joy! PLUS breatfeeding in the hut!!!! I would think I was the only guy on Simcoe that got to see boobies on the ice. How can you beat that?

  9. Left my favourite crappie/perch float fishing combo on shore up near Orillia once when I unloaded my boat. This spot is not a true boat launch but it does get alot of foot traffic from locals walking there dogs. When I got home to Oshawa I noticed it was not in the car.

Booted it back up to Orillia...75-80 minute drive...and my stuff was still there :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim: That was sweet!!!

  10. Nice specks!!! Looks like a good outing to me. All I ever use for stream specks is 4LB line and a chunk of worm on a small #12 hook. Fill your spool real full with line, you will be able to cast much better. Pinch a small split shot a foot or so up your line...but only if you have too.

Small spinners work great too if you have room to cast.

    Good luck next time out.
