  1. I have a 6' med/hvy combo for ripping, what length would you suggest for casting? Shall I stick with a 7'6" or should I go longer? Great responses so far by the way, getting a really good feeling of what I should be looking at.
  2. Links were very handy. I have sent off my concerns to the Mayor and all councillors. Hopefully there is some strength in numbers on this issue! Has anyone contacted the OFAH to see if they are aware of this issue or acting on it?
  3. My parents. They haven't fished much in years since trying to take us three kids out on several tanglefests. Would be nice to take them out and look after them so that they can have a good time. Maybe I can convince them this year.
  4. Currently I have a 6' med/heavy action rod with I think a 6500 Abu baitcaster that I bought several years ago for muskie fishing. Nice rod, just not the best for casting. What would all you seasoned muskie anglers suggest a guy buy for a nice casting rod for muskie? What length, action, even brand do you find is nice to work with and at the same time not brutally expensive? As far as reels, from what I have read on here the Abu's and Shimano's seem to be the most popular, and I am guessing money is the main factor that makes that decision for most. I expecting to have to spend about $300-400 on a package without spooling the reel. Will that amount of money put me into a decent package?
  5. I have wondered the same but in regards to heavy muskie rods. Has anyone had problems with the two piece rods failing at the joint? Often wondered if they were weaker than a one piece.
  6. Big Cliff you said it really well. There was a post a couple weeks back where a member asked advice on quitting a job to persue a new career. The responses to that post were amazing, tons of advice to help him through his decision and to help others possibly in the same situation. That really showed the caliber of guys on here and their willingness to support others.
  7. If it hadn't been for the demise of the Simcoe board earlier this year I likely wouldn't have discovered how good this board has become. From what I remembered this was a board that was overrun by a bunch of pointless badgering, which is something I have not seen since my short return. It appears that this is the busiest board out there now for Ontario fishermen, and yet from what I have seen it is also the cleanest board. A true testament to some solid management. The members here make this a very interesting board as they are so open and willing to share information with anyone who asks. It is a great site, with tons of information, and tons of great people just looking to help eachother and maybe have a little fun in the meantime. Great work!
  8. You could try Smokey's in Jackson's Point for minnows too. You will get a good number of minnows for the price and they always have some larger minnows mixed in with the small perch minnows, just a little bonus for the odd big guy cruising through. Likely less of a detour than Keswick too.
  9. Someone else has since suggested the same thing to me, never thought of that on my own. What I was refering to is essentially the same thing, a piece of throttle cable with a piece of lead on the one end for weighting the lure. I am going to try a couple auto shops and see what I can find, should hopefully be cheaper, and I will figure something else out for weighting them. Thankyou.
  10. But do you think they will implement a fee for the tourists walking through their parks looking at the flowers? Do they pay to have the flowers planted, the lawn cut, the trails paved? To charge one group of tourists for visiting but not the rest is wrong and quite frankly a violation of our civil rights. It could likely be argued that it is somewhat a form of discrimination. Got me irritated too, sorry for the rant.
  11. Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier who is competitive that I can purchase these from? They look like they would make things much easier, or are they not really that big a deal? I have found them at Stamina, but that is the only place so far. I have found lately that the duties on shipments from south of the border have been really high, so much so I am going to try harder to buy locally, only trouble is I can't seem to find the same quality or selection.

    Nascar

I do understand the purpose of the rule and support it 100%. I can't imagine sitting out on the track in a destroyed vehicle while cars thread the needle at 180mph to try to better their position. It was a great decision for NASCAR to implement that rule. I will say however that my question remains, as I can't see the media voicing much displeasure if mark Martin had raced his way to his first Daytona 500 win. Just a Harvick fan here playing devils advocate.

    Nascar

Here is an interesting question. How many people would be questioning Nascars lack of a caution if the tables were turned and Martin edged out Harvick for the win? I bet the media coverage would be totally different. Thought it was interesting that the Speed networks coverage for the half hour following the race included an interview with Mark Martin, but didn't include as much as a blip of an interview with the winner of the race.
  14. Thankyou everyone for your great advice. I wasn't aware there was a flea season... when are they not a problem?
  15. Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best line to use on trolling rigs to minimize accumulation of spiny water fleas on the line. Have fished lake Ontario a few times and found them pretty bad and have 5 reels to spool up, would hate to put the wrong line on them.
  16. A grand total of $220 for me, a new heavy action trolling rod and reel for dipsy divers and muskie baits. Bring on the soft water season!
  17. Woodstock is a beautiful area and with the new Toyota plant there will be many opportunities. Might be worth a shot but be ready to have to go through several interviews prior to being hired. Another thought that maybe someone else can comment on for you would be the Alliston area. Honda has a relatively new plant there and they are planning for another expansion. Should be some more jobs available there. Alliston may be a decent option to consider because if for some reason things don't work out at least you are close to tones of other industries, although commuting would obviously become a reality. Might just end up a zombie like many of us!
  18. Excellent post, must have been a great trip! Nice to see another Harvick fan out there.
  19. Right on MuskyBill! I hope Harvick can pull it off too, he is normally just a little short on the super speedways, he is due. And the colors, couldn't agree more, yellow is is just not the same as the black! Any bets on where he finishes at the end of the season?
  20. To change the pressure tank is pretty easy. I am not a plumber by any stretch but I managed to install a whole new system this summer at the cottage(pump, filters, pressure tank, and water heater). The Diamond tanks are pretty competitive from what I remember so I would think you are ok with them. They come pre-pressurized so you shouldn't have to worry about charging. If you have isolation valves that should make for a pretty easy switch out. As far as re-priming the pump, as long as you leave the suction side connected there should be no need to re-prime it. I would say go for it, should be easy enough for you. Maybe prior to doing it make sure you have a buddy or someone off of here that can at least help you on the phone if you run into trouble. I know nothing about the iron filters so can't help you there. Good luck.
  21. My first guess at what D.W. would say... Michael is just an unfortunate victim of someone else's careless actions. I often wonder how much of a career Michael would have if it wasn't for his big brother. He sure props him up on a pedestal.
  22. One way for him to get into the spotlight, racing hasn't seemed to do it for a while! He is going to have an interesting year with everything going on.
  23. Those are nice if you like spinners on mono. I have had far too many bite offs in the past to pike and muskie so I switched to the wire to eliminate that problem. A spinner on mono can at times provide an edge when the walleye are very finicky, as long as you are prepared to possibly lose the bigger fish to bite offs. Either way your spinners look great too, I guess it comes down to what the fishermen enjoy themselves.
  24. I am assuming you are talking about trolling them in Erie? I have always wanted to try them down there. I also play around with some tandems for myself which I love, just they are a little costly when it comes to selling them to most anglers. Oh and important to note, they are all #4 colorado blades. What is shown in the picture is about half of the colours. I also have solid colors, both in painted and metallics and a few other combinations. As far as price is concerned....there are a couple stores selling them now and they go for about $3.29 each. I can be a little flexible if you are looking for some volume. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.
  25. I am going to get a couple better pictures and add some text that is a little more legible, then I can put up a post in the classifieds for anyone who is interested. Glad you like them.
