Kelli and I decided to head up to twelve mile lake just north of minden. Her family has a cottage on the lake and we havent been there all year, I havent been there for about 3 years, but remember catching some nice smallies last time. After a bit of a fog delay, we got started. I was throwing a wacky worm and Kelli was throwing a #3 Mepps Aglia when she landed this little beauty, and may I stress LITTLE We moved down the shoreline a bit where Kelli landed this little guy on a pink senko. I started throwing a lucky craft jerkbait in about 12 feet of water and landed this guy, good way to start my morning. Threw him in the livewell for pictures later on. The action was pretty slow for the rest of the day with only a few fish here and there. We got our better fish on jerkbaits and tubes, but Kelli got her biggest (around 3.5 pounds) on a lucky craft rick clunn crankbait in 16 feet of water. Here's me with the biggest two, the bigger fish is Kelli's. Here's Kelli with her biggest two. And the two of us together After the pictures we were about to go release the fish into deeper water when the wind picked up a little bit. I decided to hit one more spot real quick. I figured the chop might turn on the jerkbait bite, and I was right ... first cast .... and just a few casts later Check her out a little closer And that called for a new pic ... AWESOME DAY ON THE WATER!!! We're a little red and crispy, but a great way to cap off a good summer!!

Those who have knowledge of fish taxonomy would know that brown trout dont have forked tails

Why snagged fish is much more difficult to land?
steverowbotham replied to a topic in General Discussion
sorry dude, you just lost a lot of respect on this board. If the fish is snagged, break it off. -
I'm pretty sure its an atlantic! If so, thats awesome!! I hope it was released, it would be awesome to see a return!

Johnny Bass, I figured you may have fished it before. It's really close to Gull, and it was your Gull report that made me wanna try the Haliburtons.

Thanks all, I definitely was outfished. But I kinda liked it

Well Kelli has hardly been fishing with me at all this year, and since we both had the day off, we decided to do some fishing. We slept in, which was tremendous, and got up around 10:30 (my first true sleep in day this summer!) we made a nice big breakfast and decided on fishing. We chose Horseshoe Lake near Minden. Never been there before but we figured we'd try it out. Theres a lot of current in the lake, and not many weeds. Lots of silt! I finally came to some narrows where the current was flowing pretty good and there was a hump where the weeds were folded over from the current. The smallies were sitting under the weeds and eating tubes! Lots of fish around 1- 1.5 pounds on that spot and one about 2.5 pounds. Kept moving and saw a very light spot in the lake from a distance. Motored over to it and it was a big bed of THICK milfoil out on a hump in 10 feet of water. The only thick weeds in the whole lake. Kelli got a nice 3 pounder on a senko. Found an island with a downed tree and Kelli got another tank on a senko. Started fishing some docks in the evening and got a nice 1 3/4 pounder, and on the next dock lost a GIANT. The fish was 5+ but got my line caught up on the dock post and came unbuttoned. Ah well, good way to spend the day!!

Its always nice putting the youngsters on fish, especially when they've never fished before

Absolutely Amazing day on Sturgeon Lake!!!!!!!!!!
steverowbotham replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
What an awesome day! I was thinking of hitting Sturgeon for a few hours tonight ... after a full day on Sparrow... haha. Bly's 17 inch smallie, is actually a 17 inch largie. Great Day out guys, good job! -
I ran a charter today on Sparrow Lake for two father/son pairs visiting the Cottages at Port Stanton. Of the four of them, one father/son pair had fished 1 time, and it was in the ocean. So for a four hour charter, I was kind of nervous. Everyone picked up the casting pretty quick, which was a welcome surprise. I gave everyone simple baits to use ... ie. spinnerbaits, senkos, wacky worm. One dad caught 4 bass and 1 pike, his son caught 2 bass, the other dad skunked, but he spent most of his time helping his 8 year old son who managed 3 bass. For a four hour trip, with no experience, I was happy with the results, but I was itching to get into some fish. I went back to fish some of the same areas with jigs and other "not so simple" baits. In 3 hours I landed 9 bass, one was a 4+ ... cant go wrong, I was happy with the day! And some of my fish after the charter ended.... I had to put my camera on a timer on top of my motor .... kinda nervous about it hahaha

put the pic back

I do have two livewells, but its not necessary, many guys just use cull tags to distinguish the fish.

Wednesday We had a club tournament on Cooch ON wednesday. My first spot offered nothing for us, so we moved a bit deeper and quickly caught limits (our limit for the club is 4 fish each ... 2 ppl on a boat, so 8 fish total ... combined weight is for money ... individual weight is for angler of the year and classic qualifying). Limits were caught on tubes and flukes. I saw a 3.5 pounder follow a jerkbait so we GPS'd the spot to come back to later. We moved on, into a weedbed in about 9-12 feet of water and plucked a few more nice fish on tubes. I got a big one flipping a jig into some heavy stuff. We went back to the spot where we saw the 3.5 pounder earlier and my non-boater caught her on his first cast. I plucked another 3.5 farther down the stretch of deep scattered stuff. It was an evening tournament, so not as much time, but I knew I had good weight anyways. My 4 fish went 13.55 pounds, and my non boater had 11.40 pounds .... good enough for first place. Cant complain, great day on the water. Sunday Another club tournament on Six Mile. Not much of a report, I caught lots of fish on senkos and flippin jigs in 8-15 feet of water, but no big fish. Tough day all around though. My 7.85 and my partners 7.50 was good enough for 3rd place.

August 6 Lake Dalrymple Report *PIC*

I weighed 5 Roger! -
Not just loons, but waterfowl in general. Ducks and geese ingest small pebbles to help with digestion. Small split shot just happen to be about the right size.

August 6 Lake Dalrymple Report *PIC*

Man, we never really fished anything different either. Just a different outcome. I told you i was confused haha. -
tungsten spinnerbaits are pretty popular now. Most lead bans are for lead under a certain size, such as split shot. But I cannot confirm six mile's lead ban

August 6 Lake Dalrymple Report *PIC*

We caught most of our fish in the deeper water of lower (Northern) dalrymple. Our frog fish we caught in the heavy pads in Upper (Southern). The Carolina Rig, we run 14lbs XPS fluorocarbon line on a Johnny Morris Elite Baitcast Reel and a 6' MH Johnny Morris Casting Rod. We had a 3/8oz Bullet sinker, 1 red bead and a swivel with a 24inch leader (still 14 pound fluoro), a 3/0 Owner wide gap hook. Cal was using a 7 inch red shad Berkley Power worm, I was using a 7 inch Black/blue Yum Zellamander. -
Bass Pro Shops has an associate series on we just finished our third stop at Lake Dalrymple. Our first stop was at G-Pool, but we had to weigh in at noon due to prior engagements and only had 7 pounds, I missed the second tourney as I was in New York for our 6 man team tournament. This was my first full tourney this year. We started the day off with a bang as I hit a 5.12 pounder on a lizard. I then proceeded to hit a 3 pounder on a frog up shallower and Cal landed a few keepers on a senko. We moved out to deeper water and started carolina rigging lizards and 7" worms where Cal hit a 4.84 pounder on his C-Rig worm. We landed a bunch more 3 pounders on the C-Rigs and flipping jigs in 9-14 fow. The bite died around 10am and we caught only a few small guys after that. We weighed in at 18.56 pounds to win the tourney and set a new record for the associate series. We had big fish util the last team weighed in with a 5.48 pound PIG!! Fun day had by all.
