  1. Nikon, is a benchmark no doubt, but you can often get more features and higher end unit dollar for dollar, canon to nikon. I tried out a few nikons, and they are a bit more substanial feeling but I have have no issues with my canon. If you are going with point and shoot, I would take a look at the Fuji lineup. I had a very nice Fuji point and shoot.

  2. If you are talking about the big one that starts at the marinas and goes under the bridge on woodbine, I have followed that one pretty far past woodbine. At the mouth to the bridge there are crappie, bass and perch. Although I have only caught small crappie. As you follow it further in you will start to run into catfish and carp. After you pass the bridge its carp town. I don't fish for carp, but there are littlly millions of carp there. Huge ones too. So if carp is your thing than go for it. Its a bit windy with lots of forks and is very shallow and by the middle of summer its so thick with weeds your trolling motor will stall out. If you are gonna go I suggest going asap as it won't be long before it starts to choke up. There is the occaisonal bass as well but its soo thick with weeds its pretty much carp only. It actually starts to resemble a bayuo from swamp people and I would think is the weather was right it would be full of gators. :) Parking is tough as there is not a lot available other than the marinas. But there are places you could slip a canoe or inflatable in without anyone noticing. Perhaps the boston pizza, or out half way between boston pizza and woodbine on the south shore.

  4. My tj transmision was built in china. There is no such thing as domestic or import when it comes to cars. Besides the last I checked there NO canadian car manufacturers. There are plants here but the money goes to all those fat cats in japan, korea or the states. Every car I have ever owned in my lifetime has been an import in my eyes. From plymouths, dodge, mitsubishi, chryco, gm, toyota, honda,.... Even a ford... They are all imports to me.

  5. Thanks Skip, will do. I know you're up that way and collect those things so don't go buying it now!

Here's a good question: Do 8 foot musky rods fit in a TJ?

I wood say no not straight, maybe on an angle. My 7 foot bass rods had to be put in on an angle.if you are going to compare a few sit in a liberty. Not as rugged as a wrangler but a much more comfortable vehicle to drive. A wrangler is cooler though.

  6. It's alot easier to keep them clean if you don't let them get that dirty :)

Bleh...my hands inevitably get dirty when I am fishing, and I am too paranoid to wash my hands while fishing. Plus I am too busy catching fish to worry about my hands... Poke poke jab jab...ha ha

  7. And BTW we all know the age of V-rods so you know that this is an older rod that has seen many fish and many outings. The quantum is a cheapo one so the cork is clearly not as good, but even it came out amazing. P.S. if you wreck yours don't blame me, cause if yours got ruined so did mine. lol do this at your own risk I guess.

  8. ok I did another one and took some pics...

Here is the Vrod I cleaned...

Here is what it looked like before(the dirty one is a quantum but it was the same as this.

    IMG_8144.jpg

So here is the quantum on its own before...

    IMG_8145.jpg

    Quantum after I scrubbed half...

    IMG_8147.jpg

and the clean quantum with the vrod..

    IMG_8148.jpg

and here is a cropped version of both rods so you can see a bit closer...

    IMG_8148-cropped.jpg

These photos were taken with a Canon T2i on manual focus, with no flash, and no editing. I resized them all to 1600 pixel's wide. The only edit was the final shot where I cropped it and then resized so you could get a closeup

The process I usesd is as follows..

Wet the cork fully(alot ran off as they were oily and dirty but dampened them as best i could)

Then rub them in long strokes from end to end with a dampened magic eraser,

about 3 or 4 strokes is all it took,

    Repeated around the whole thing

    Rinsed them off in water

    Then dried with a towel

P.S. water was just cluke warm so I didn't freeze or burn my hands. lol

The magic eraser I used was the white one called Mr.Clean Magic erase extra power. It came in a 2 pack for about 5 bucks at Metro. I imagine they sell this at every grocery store...You know the place wher eyou buy fish when you get skunked...

Anyway I hope some of you find this useful.

Here are a couple more before and after, these wern't as bad...

  9. Ok so I am not sure if this is a recomended way to clean your rod handles, but I had 2 vrods that were so dirty and slick that I almost threw thew out of the boat by accident last year in the rain a few times. I saw a tip to use a mr.clean magic eraser and I thought i would give it a whirl. and WOW they came out brand fricken new. I am wondering if I need to seal them now, but I'll do some more digging on that. anyway just thought I would pass this on. I wish I took a before picture. So impressed.

  10. Price is pretty decent. Some spots to check...

    RUST

Follow the Roll cage down to the floor beside the drive and passenger seats there should be no rust

Check the underside of the wheel wells the top flat piece

Check the frame especially in the bends in the rear

    Mechanics

It shouldn't sway on the highway

It shouldn't rebound like crazy going over bumps

Check for any abuse on the skid plates

If its a stick make sure it shifts smoothly

Ask when the fluids were last changed and with what types(differentials, Transaxle, oil etc...)

  11. For my 16 footer with a 30, You can have a rider put on your boat if you have house insurance depending on who you're with if your boat is under a certain size. Also if you join ofah you get liability for when your fishing.

I pay 25 dollars a month for gated dryland storage for my boat. In toronto its gonna cost about 100 a month.

For gas I spend about 10-20 bucks a weekend in gas, add oil a few bucks. Add about 20 percent of your fuel mileage for towing.

    As for the allimony...

  12. Similar happened to me ice fishing one year. A friend was setting up a hundred yards away from me and a laker took his brand new st croix down the hole. 5 minutes later I got a hit on one of my tip ups. I pulled it and it had two hooks in its mouth. I pulled up the 9.5 pounder, along with 100 feet of line and my friends rod and reel.

  13. But the thread got off topic. He's not looking for a off road vehicle, he's looking for a tow vehicle, preferably an SUV, to drive around the city mostly and tow a 16 foot boat. A small 6 cyl. pickup, or mid-size SUV would be perfect for what he was describing.

Yah I guess if he is comfortable tucking his goods between his legs while he drives he can go buy a Rav4 or a Murano. lol

Be a man get a jeep.
