Best Way to fish suckers as pike bait?

Any suggestions? If fishing suckers as bait for spring Pike what is the best way to fish them? (note: suckers are dead) Whole with quick strike rig; or just using pieces? On bottom with slip sinker? Bobber needed? Any advice appreciated.
