  3. Anyone interested? My Partner and I need a Spotter for the 2009 Tightline Salmon tournament held out of Bluffers Park on Saturday August 1st. You will not be fishing and may not necessarily be in our boat, but you do get a free day on a boat and a chance to learn some great techniques for salmon fishing on the Great Lakes. You will need to be at Bluffers Park by 6am on the day, we will be off the water by 3pm. You will also need to be available at 7.30pm the friday evening before the tournament for the Captain and Spotters meeting, this will be held at the Dogfish Pub at Scarborough Bluffs. Please PM me ASAP if you are interested in participating as a Spotter. If you're not interested in being a Spotter but maybe looking for something to pass the time that day everyone is welcome to come and watch the weigh-in. I have a feeling that there will be some BIG Salmon coming to the scales again this year. Cheers, Shaun

  6. bigbuck, unfortunately there just wasn't enough time for me to get out and wet a line, I was at the store all day for both days and then had to fly back to TO on Sunday afternoon. I did meet some great guys who know the area well and have been invited to head back up there the is summer, which I plan to do for sure Cheers!
  7. As some of you know I recently made an appearance at the Kenora Canadian Tire Store. The event was branded 'The Great Kenora Fishing Weekend' and was hosted by Mike Major, the store owner. The event was to mark the begining of fishing season and to relaunch the store's recently expanded and renovated fishing/outdoor section. The new additions look great and the selection that this store now offers to 'Outdoor Adventurers' is phenomenal! If you're heading up to Kenora this season, which I highly recommend you do, be sure to stop by the store, they have all your fishing, camping and hunting needs well and truly covered. I have to start out by saying that the people of Kenora are absolutely brilliant, I can honestly say that I have never met so many friendly and kind hearted people in one place at one time. From the staff members at the store to the Pro anglers and members of the general public, everyone was exceptionally friendly and made me feel very much at home. I'll be heading back to Kenora to fish this summer for sure. I'd like to extend a special thank you to Mike Major, the store owner, for inviting me up. It was a real pleasure working with Mike and his phenomenal staff, including Marg Heithoff, Mark Engstrom, Steve Burke, Lance Pollock and Ernie Smith. Thanks also to the following Pure Fishing Pro Staff that helped out, what a great bunch of guys and again it was a real pleasure working with them all: Frank McClymont Steve Ellie Al Carlson Brent Kruger "The Fishin Magician" (Charity fish fry) and Chris Jackson from Maurice Sporting Goods. Despite some unseasonally cold temperatures and less than desirable weather, including a sprinkling of snow on the Saturday, the turn out was good and the event a success. Thank you to all of you that made it out! I have posted some of the pictures below. For those of you that asked me for copies of these pictures please feel free to right click on them, then click on 'Save picture as' and save them to your desktop. Congratulations to the following Kenora residents who entered and won various contests and draws that were held over the weekend, including a free draw to win a new Princecraft boat and trailer package which was kindly donated by Nestor Falls Marina and Princecraft Boats - http://www.princecraft.com and http://www.nestorfallsmarine.com - Pictures of some of the winners can be viewed below: Princecraft Boat winner: Jan Read Fishing trip for two with local Pro Angler Fank McClymont: Jeremy Derouard Casting contest winners: Katelynn Stedlund Patrick Seymour Pam Kozie Kyle Miclash Gift bag draw prize winners: Angela Kuchma Judy Harbour Emily Whittaker Photography Credit: Lance Pollock Mike Major (Store Owner) and Jan Read, now the proud owner of a brand new Princecraft boat and trailer package Brent Kruger (The Fishin Magician) and Yours truly

  13. Has anyone been out on Skugog in the past few days? Just wondering what the ice conditions are like and if it's safe to go out up there. We were thinking of heading up tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Shaun
  14. If you're reading these Dave, Great job! Excellent show and very well done. I enjoyed watching and will do so again for sure. My hats off to yourself and your talented crew. Continued success mate! Cheers, Shaun
  15. Rich, Husky Jerks, Kickin' Minnows, Deep X-Raps and X-Raps would be my first choices. Work them really slowly, at this time of the year I'll use a slow twitch pause retrieve with the suspending jerk baits, letting the bait pause for up to 5 or 6 seconds at times, this is generally a good tactic to get slow following Pike that you may not even see to hit. My colours of choice for the jerk baits are Perch, Silver/Black, Silver/Blue, Orange, and Tennesee Shad. For the Deep X-Raps and Kickin' Minnows I would use a slow steady retrieve, occasional pauses for the Deep X-Rap, same colours as above and Purple/White for the Kickin' Minnows. Good luck! Cheers, Shaun
  16. Just a quick reminder that I will be making an appearance tomorrow at the Grand Opening of the new Canadian Tire 20/20 store located at the Albion Mall in Rexdale. Please feel free to stop by for a chat if you're in the area - Details from the Canadian Tire flyer below: Cheers, Shaun
  17. Toronto Angler, they were staging on a dying weed bed outside of a bay in around 10 to 12ft of water. Cheers, Shaun
  18. My mate Mike Haugh and I made it out for some TO Pike again this past Sunday, the action was a little slower than earlier in the week, this we could only attribute to the water temps dropping 5+ degrees from 62F to 57F after the high winds on Friday. The lake was flat and the water clear, we could see some nice pike cruising and even had a couple of good fish follow our baits but it was tough getting them to eat. I finally got a couple of fish to hit, the first Pike ate a Perch Jointed X-Rap and the second which was a thicker heavier Pike took a large silver/black Husky Jerk. A medium twitch pause retrieve seemed to be key. The funny part was that the smallest fish we have ever caught in this area hit the largest bait, the jointed X-Rap. We had 2 very respectable fish also follow a white Kick 'n' Minnow but just couldn't get them to bite - Pictures below. Cheers, Shaun
  19. Very nicely done! Great pictures, great report and congratulations. Cheers, Shaun
  20. Barnie's Ban, let's not forget the Glass Perch Husky Jerk, another great pike bait Cheers, Shaun
  21. Misfish, not sure about the location of any future events yet. We are looking into the possibility of holding a similar event in Toronto next year. We'll keep you posted. Cheers, Shaun
  22. Too long Thanks guys, it was a lot of work but a lot of fun. Cheers, Shaun
  23. Maureen, the weekend went great thanks, I actually put a report up on here yesterday, here's the link: http://www.ofncommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11608 Cheers, Shaun
  24. After a busy weekend at the Legends on the Bay event on Georgian Bay my good mate Dan and I decided to get out on the big Lake O and try for some pike yesterday morning. I have to tell you, I'm glad we did. the fishing was on fire and the pike were hungry. In just over 4 hours we managed to boat over 15 Pike, we missed and saw at least that many again 8) Not only were the Pike feeding but they were feeding exceptionally aggressively, absolutely inhaling our lures - Pictures below. We threw everything from Husky Jerks, X-Raps and soft plastics to Kick 'n' Minnows and spinnerbaits, they ate the lot! Colour choices didn't seem to matter, anything from silver/black, Perch, purple, white and shad patterns worked well. We noticed that some of the fish were quite pale in comparison to other fish, it's my theory that these fish had recently moved in from the deeper open water to stage before entering some of the bays around the harbour area over the winter months. One large fish even had a lamprey mark on it's back, a likely sign that this particular pike had likely been cruising the open water chasing schools of bait, much like a trout or salmon. Water temps on top were around 62F, fast retrieves worked better early as the sun got higher a medium twitch pause retrieve worked best for us. Fall can be a great time to hook into a trophy pike; they're a lot of fun to catch on bass tackle that's for sure. Pictures below. Cheers, Shaun
