  1. Misfish, Thanks for your reply and advice, somewhat familiar with the locations you mentioned and will give it a try. Just to sit on the shore away from the rink and talk, is well worth it. Old Ironmaker, Agree 100% on that! Hope you have better luck with the newborn, she might surprise you.
  2. Used to fish this area for spring perch many years ago but never fished it in the fall. Taking my grandson to Orillia for hockey tournament early November, thought I might give it a try between games but have no idea if there is any worthwhile fishing at that time. I was wondering if anyone has been there in the fall, and where to try. No boat, fishing from shore. Thanks
  3. Does anyone know if we can fish for perch at Fifty, or has it been stopped because of the boats? There is usually a tournament in the spring from what I've heard. Also, how can I find out when the ponds are stocked? thanks
  4. Looks like a Hamilton Bay Walleye.
  5. Have never been ice fishing on this lake but fished there quite a number of years ago. The lake is known for walleye and pike, (some bass and perch) and we have caught large numbers of walleye back in the day. Don't know where you are thinking of staying but we used to fish the north-east end mostly. There are a couple of points there that used to produce very well. There was a camp at the end of Tomiko Rd. ran by a guy named Benny (probably gone now) but people used to stay there and said the fishing was also good right off the camp. Don't know if this helps much making your decision but it's all I can tell you. Good luck.
  6. Got two Garmin Nuvi's, have had them for a couple of years, work great, excellent nav features, eg: favourites, auto home, places of interest, etc. Purchased lifetime updates for both, can update maps several times per year.
  7. Any property available near you? Nah...wait...my wife would never move there. oh well, I am jealous, it's a fantastic location.
  8. I can top that one, I think. While stream fishing for speckles just north of Sturgeon Falls a few years ago. lost my last Mepps on a snag. Heading back to the canoe found an old campfire with some tin foil left behind. Wrapped the tin foil, along with two split shot, around the shank of two hooks, a few casts later, a two lb spec. and lost my foil. No one believed me when I got back to camp, but.....true story.
  9. Thanks for the heads up. Sure to make some mistakes with this new tech line but done that before.
  10. I guess it's time to come out of the dark ages and try something new. "Braid" eh? I'll give it a shot tomorrow, thanks BillM. Braid virgins? yeah I guess they're still around, but not for long.
  11. I guess my name should be "Old School" as I have trouble trying to understand all these new lines. I have used Stren or Trilene in whatever strength I needed for many years and never had any problems with abrasion or knots coming out or the line snapping for no apparent reason. I've fished a lot of really crappy waters with rocks, logs, stumps, weeds, in all kinds of weather and cannot remember my lines letting go. It's really interesting reading all the posts regarding new types of line and I'm sure all you guys have your favorites for different conditions, but I sometimes wonder how much of this is marketing, or are these new lines actually much better than the old stuff. Well, just my opinion.
  12. Geeeez, and to think for the last 50 yrs I've been using only one hand. No wonder I don't catch much!
  13. Thanks for your replies. Will give LeBaron a try or the local pharmacist.
  14. Does anyone know where I can buy some of these? I tried several outdoor stores online but couldn't find anything. (maybe using the wrong search terms) These are used to inflate worms for those who may not know what I'm talking about, usually in the form of a small plastic bottle with a needle attached.
  15. Great to hear. Makes me feel somewhat more optimistic. Thanks
