  1. I was wondering if anyone here knows whether the Pond at Centennial Park in Etobicoke is permitted for fishing. I heard conflicting reports that it is a wildlife habitat and prohibited for fishing. Others have said that people are allowed to fish there. Does anyone know whether this pond is open or closed for fishing?
  2. Thanks this is useful. Some spots are off-target though.
  3. Does anyone here know whether the Grand River between Dunnville and Port Maitland has completely thawed out right now and is ready for regular fishing? Also, what kinds of fish species can you catch at the Grand during the early Spring season? Thanks.
  4. I'm looking for a river system in southern Ontario that hasn't freezed over yet. Does anyone know any places where the water still maintains liquid form throughout the winter? How is the Grand River near the Dunnville Dam right now?
  5. I've never tried ice fishing before, but I would like to try this winter. However, what time of the year does the ice become stable enough in southern Ontario for ice fishing to be safe? Thanks.
  6. I am still feeling the fishing fever from the summer and I still need to wet my line here and there. I was wondering, though, what kinds of non-salmonid species are easy to catch during the fall season?
  7. I know that Puslinch Lake (near Cambridge) is surrounded by private property. But I was wondering if anyone here knows of any public access points along the shore to fish.
  8. Nice sturgeon. Too bad MNR prohibits taking even ONE sturgeon throughout the whole year.
  9. Whenever I passed by Dunnville, there were people catching good sized channels in the warmer temperature days. Now, people are getting skunked as the water temperature cools.
  10. Nothing. I was just curious. Why don't you give me a break bbm. If you don't like my threads don't read them.
  11. I've never been charged by an MNR officer, I do fish legally with a license, and never had my fishing equipment confiscated. I am just curious however where your fishing equipment goes once a MNR officer confiscates it after you violate a serious fishing law. Also, once they do take your equipment is there no chance in hell of getting it back? Just wondering.
  12. I recently cooked up two very large channel catfish fillets that I caught off the Grand River not too long ago. The only problem was that the flesh literally felt like rubber. No way I could sink my teeth into it. Does anyone know why the larger the channel catfish the more rubbery the flesh becomes when cooked? Thanks.
  13. Has anyone tried fishing in the mouth of the Notty River in Wasaga Beach? Besides the seasonal salmon or trout, what can kinds of fish species have you caught there if you have fished there? I'm thinking of dipping my line there before the weather gets too cold. Thanks.
  14. Seriously, saltwater fish generally beats freshwater fish hands down in terms of edibility. My favs are cod, haddock, and ocean perch (always fried). Saltwater fish has the advantage of not having that weedy/muddy taste of a lot of freshwater fish. The only freshwater fish that I have tasted that comes close to the saltwater fish in terms of a lack of a fishy taste is perch.
  15. I keep seeing these reels in a package at Canadian Tire or Walmart. Are these reels any good? I heard that they can't compete with reels made by Daiwa or Shimano. The one I saw is a Quantum Snapshot. Also, it has a clip near the bail arm (some reels have it, some don't). What the heck is the purpose of that clip near the bail arm? I always get my lines tangled because of that thing. Oh, and another thing, is it taboo among serious anglers to buy inexpensive packaged fishing reels at these stores?
  16. I have another question about the Fishmasters at Dunnville. I heard that the guy who owns that place will let you fish off his property for $5. Is the fishing good in that place? Is it worth paying $5 to fish off his property? I sometimes fish off the bridge above the dam and I always catch something there.
  17. I need some advice regarding the colour of the fishing line. I heard from somebody that it is best to use low-visibility lines (clear or flourocarbon) and lines that are thinner (low diameter) to have greater success in catching fish because fish can get spooked seeing the line. Is this true? What types of fishing lines do you guys recommend and which types of fishing lines do you usually avoid? I have always used Berkley Trilene (the red box one) and now use the Berkley Fireline Crystal (this seems to be most supreme line I ever used). Also, is it true that the higher the line pound the worse it is for non-detection? Thanks.
  18. I know many pro anglers have this distate (no pun intended) for fish species like suckers, drums, bullheads, carp, etc. However, when I fry them up using those packaged seasoning powder you buy at Canadian Tire I think they taste great. I know that people will always rave about walleye, perch, crappie, etc., but I think those "trash" fish species also taste good when prepared right (and fried with the right seasoning). Anyone agree?
  19. How many of you anglers here actually eat your catches? Also, what kinds of fish species that you catch do you prefer to eat? I'm asking because for me part of the fun of angling is taking home some of your catch and putting it on your dinner plate.
  20. Hi, I checked out this 8 foot long Shimano trolling reel not too long ago at Canadian Tire but I noticed that the rod had a reel seat slot that was larger than average for an average sized reel foot. I was wondering if anyone here knows a large-sized SPINNING reel (sorry, I can't use baitcasters or standard trollers) that has a large reel foot that can fit a 8-10 foot trolling rod. Preferably Shimano or Daiwa reels. Thanks.
  21. I know how marketable perch is and how great it taste, but that video just made me a tad upset.
  22. Anyone know any rivers or bodies of water in southern Ontario (not exact locations, don't worry you don't have to give me your private honey holes) that are good for channel catfishing besides Dunnville and Port Maitland?
  23. Is anyone here a fan of fishing at Lake Scugog? How is the fishing there? Also, are there any PUBLIC access points for shoreline fishing? Thanks.
