  1. The Optimas are a great battery but if I were you I'd go with Energizers. I have 3 of them in the boat, a starting battery and two deep cycles for the 24 volt bowmount. I got them on special too and so far I've had no issues whatsoever.

With the money saved, you can buy yourself a pretty good onboard charger.

Just like Roy I have an Energizer its my third season now a great bang for the buck you must buy the deep cycle only though not one for starting.(it can not say cranking amps.

  2. I only eat Walleye but when I get a big one she goes back.

I once read the average female Walleye lays 14 000 to 19 000 eggs where a walleye over 30 inches in the 11 to 12 pound range can lay up

65 000 eggs so this fish contributes alot during spawning.

I have caught some big walleye in Quinte who took the hook too deep and died they were consumed not wasted but I found the larger fish not as good to eat.

Its a matter of choice I just respect the big females who are a major producer to our fisherie.

  3. Thats what I would have said 4 to five hours .

I can get about 9 hours out of my minnkota 55lbs of thrust(on a 16 foot Lund Classic) I troll with a Honda 2hp in the rear my bow mount on just enough to keep the boat straight at all times such a wonderful combination when trolling in 2 foot chop the boat stays on course.

I would try the new optima batteries the blue ones which look like a 6 pack of cans of pop.My cousin runs these new batteries on his 17 foot boat he swears they last much longer. When I will need another batterie I will give these a try for now I have 2 good batteries.

    Found my tackle box .few.......................

My rod was wrapped around my oar and I was wearing my PFD.

Thankfully digi camera's have come down in price.

Look on the bright side no one drowned.

  5. Wow Mike we have alot in common I just went the opposite way.Same name.Born the same year .

I have owned an SSV with a 50hp Honda .

I just upgraded to a 60hp Yamaha .You went one way I went the other.

we both own a 2hp Honda.

So far Honda has been the most reliable boat motor for me .Had a 2000 Honda 50hp,1980 Honda 7.5hp both zero problems.

    2hp so far so good.

I will have to see how yamaha compares.

My buddy GlennK has a top speed of 29 to 30mph with his 40 Honda a Lund 1625 Classic much heavier than the SSV so you are going to fly with the new Motor Mike.Enjoy

  6. Cliff I also find my 60hp four stroke slow on the take off.

Recently on vacation I started the boat off in a turn when taking off you would not believe it you get up on plane much quicker .

Give this a try I am sure you will be up and running quickly.

Make sure you turn sharp when you take off.

as for slow trolling speed you will need a kicker.

I chose my 60hp Yamaha because it has a button on the tiller that allows me to drop 300rpm's this gets me down to 1.5mph.

I still use the kicker when I want to troll even slower.

I know Mecury may have this on their tillers but not sure about console models.

  7. Great report MTP!! :clapping: Thanks for finally getting around to it  You need a bigger, more stable boat, so your wife can paint while you fish :lol:

I would like her to change her themes and paint something fishing related.

I would have prefered an all out fishing camp but I had to compromise.

Thanks for the kind words and compliments folks.

I don't understand nature there is a drount out west.Forrest Fires galore and we are being saturated in the east :dunno:

  9. Hey Mike great report looks like every one had a great time

the weather could be better but we have to take what we get

when does Ryan's cast come off? your wife does some great work

    Rob

Rog he got his cast off on Monday its been off for six days but he finds it tender I wish he was in the pool more but the weather won't permit such a thing.

I will be at Dan's next weekend for some slamon salmon.

    Mike

  10. Oh very nice Rob!You know ever since you became a Grandpa your tolerents for the outdoor eliments have declined.

I will envy you this fall in Quinte I expect coffee delivery from you out on the BOQ hot lunch too.

If you don't mind I will stick to my facemask yellow floater suit and hand warmers.

  11. ditto on the chub-1000%

I had a local Darren tell me it was baby quananiche.I thought chub also.

The guy who owns a marina there told be the baby salmon are black down ther spine and bright silver.

when they mature the spine turns green.I never seen something so little fight hard like these thing.Ryan caught about a dozen or so.

Sounds like the local has the fish ID wrong?
