Putting the finishing touch ups on my pontoon trailer and I had a gentleman inform me that the chains from the trailer must be secured with links after looped under the vehicles hitch etc. I have the standard "S" ends that I latch on making snug. Talked to UHaul and they said the "S" ends are fine. Just might go grab a pair anyways but does anyone have info on this? Thanks.

Bought the exact as Hoser, worked well. Actually have to pick up more as I want to install inside glides for my pontoon trailer. Have to redo my front bumpers too. It was very economical as it also came in 6' widths.

Just cleaning the garage listening to my favorite podcasts ("Stuff you should know") and wondering if there are any fishing podcasts concerning Ontario etc. Rather be fishing but boat sitting under a tarp up at Balsam still until Wednesday...

Putting together a Musky box, what lures?
Raycaster replied to Maverick's topic in General Discussion
I know Lew would know best but has anyone fished Cache Bay lately? Last time I was there it was 100% cabbage with zero chance of retrieving any musky lure more than 5 feet without super polarized xray glasses on for guidance. Medium spinner baits seemed the least likely to tow back a 100 sq ft block of weeds. Very successful with pike on Cache bay due to the weeds but can't imagine double tens... -
Thank guys, appreciated.

Thank you for the reply. That would be the pink (gas) teflon tape right? Not the white stuff?

Well not quite assembly but wondering what most people use for the fuel quick connector threading. (Metal to plastic gas connection). The instructions always point to some kind of special thread sealer but never able to hunt it down at the local stores. Thanks guys.

Check this out! No more cable bills! All the tv you can watch!

I have it running pretty smooth from my pc so I went and ordered a unit from gboxcanada for downstairs without a pc. The $129 price jumped to $139 when I ordered, the shipping added $20 and the taxes rounded it out to $180!!!. I ordered on Tuesday and received confirmation 2 days later. Its still in transit in the maritimes due to my bad timing (Easter holidays). $20 shipping for over approx 10 days shipping of a small parcel seems pretty high. The $20 UPS or something better than Canada Post 10 day expedited shipping might had been more in line. My one question that I don't seem to get an answer with xbmc is the p2p. Is this just a glorified streaming torrent app? Is the cache of the movie I watch being uploaded to others? Just a follow up... Package arrived Tuesday and I have been playing with it big time! Unfortunately I am going to return it as I was really expecting more. I have xbmc installed on a pc and tablet and it works great but the Android box seems very under powered and handicapped without a mouse or touch screen. It took almost an hour to enter in my login information for Netflix as the remote and cursor would cancel the input so I finally had to plug a keyboard in. Then the unit wouldn't allow the shift key on the keyboard for "@" so I did 1/2 with keyboard and 1/2 with remote cursor. A lot of the applications had these problems of input which probably could of been prevented with another $$$ remote. Also had a ton of problems viewing any movies where the PC version had no problems. I thought the GBox with OTA updates would have the latest respository info etc. but really seemed slow. The GBox may be a great unit but just not for my family. Unfairly I wanted it to be super user friendly for the wife/kids but it's input killed that right away. I unfairly hoped for more of a "AppleTV" environment having easy control and access to Netflix and Slingplayer along with xbmc. -
Picking up a cheap or used 7" android tablet with NavFree. You get free GPS that works without DATA fees etc. You also have a fine e-reader, movie viewer, email etc. I have an older Nexus 7 which works awesome for GPS. Once out the car it comes with me and then its Navionics time for the boat!

Any love for Canal Lake? Last fishing trip of season...
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Propwash, thanks you for the very informative reply. Luckily my brother and I are used to Cache Bay in Nippisising and I have the pontoon so the weeds don't bother us too much. Was in Mitchel early this year and it was weedy but the concern was logs/stumps. Again thank you for the replies and hopefully I'll be able to post some success. -
Any love for Canal Lake? Last fishing trip of season...
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thx for the replies guys. Since this is actual a "Family Weekend" I will probably remain on Canal and see if I can sneak over to Ant Island one of the days. Funny how a decent sized lake close to Mitchel and Balsam doesn't share their success. Maybe the locals want to hide it! -
Just finished a novel Brad Thor : Hidden Order which uses the US Federal Reserve as a back story. Yes its fiction but the back story about the federal reserve history and function are a real eye opener. Its written like a Dan Brown suspense novel with a sprinkling of odd true facts that catch you off guard. Very interesting topic that I think I will research a little...

I've searched around for info about Canal Lake (Off of Mitchel and Balsam) but have found very little. Spending Thanksgiving up there with the pontoon and wondered if I should stay on Canal or trailer over to Balsam that I know. Did hear that it is pretty weedy like Mitchel with some bass action but haven't heard much more. Any info very much appreciated. thx.

(NF) where can I get 8x10 pictures done
Raycaster replied to Handlebarz's topic in General Discussion
X2 Fang. A few years back the family had a trip to Europe and I took a million pictures. Online I dwindled it down to 250 pictures and uploaded to a site using built in templates etc. Took about 2 hours works but 3 weeks later delivered to our door we had a hard cover "storybook" of the trip that remains on a coffee table. It looks very professional and back then it was only $45 which to us was a miracle bargain. I have a home server with terabytes of family photos/videos and have WDTV plus AppleTV but very rarely view the pictures. I'm a computer/photo geek and still have not found an economical way to print cheaper or better than Walmart/Blacks/Costco etc. Expensive print cartridges that your scared to use just dry up and color corrections etc... just not worth it to me. Just like getting a custom frame/matte estimate last year at 50% off and told it was still $325!. Found a prefect economical frame and got a custom matte together for $125. Gotta save money for the important things in life like... new lures and boat repairs! -
Just want to put a big thank you to KawarthaKev for the pointers on lower Buckhorn. Also big thanks to the forum for pointing out the launch at Sunrise Resorts. The owners of Sunrise Resort were just as unbelievably friendly and helpful as many have posted here! About the fishing: Lost 2 nice bass and lures with leader problems. Went with tackle store monoflorament leaders that untied. My local tackle store generously built them for me and they looked rock solid. One untied from my line (my fault) and the other from the leaders knot (tackle store fault). I know there is a thread here about it so I'll give it a read. Crazy glue time on the knots? Pretty sure I was on a muskie early but let it run 20' while looking for my net. Went to reel in and being unprepared cost me... Lesson learned. Ended up with a few smaller bass and one very large Black Crappie, never seen one before. After spending 2 days on the lake I have to say its now one of my favorites. Beautiful lake and beautiful weed beds, not too busy and my pontoon was able to slip carefully into the hidden rock areas. Have to read up on the "leaders" thread as I have a few days lined up for LSC in 2 weeks!

Any tips for Grimbsy/Hamilton/Burlington area for newbie?
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys for all the help this year. Finally got a boat in the water and also lucking into a lot of fishing time. Hitting Lower Buckhorn next Monday also! Again thanks for all the help. -
First time out launching from under the Skyway bridge and zig zagging the Hamilton/Burlington edges. We trolled about 2-4 miles out 35' to 65' but had a very hard time even marking fish. We had the dipsy divers and wobblers running and trying to stay with any fish marks depth. Do you usually have to go deeper or is it day by day that you just have to go find them? Gotta say even with no hits it was still enjoyable and a good change from casting all day. Thanks for any help guys.

Last minute trip - Buckhorn Aug 5-6, cabin rentals?
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys, much appreciated. -
Finally got an ok from friends for a quick fishing trip on Buckhorn Aug 5-6 and looking for accommodations. Just need 1 night and boat slip and was hoping for suggestions. Check Three Castles and they are booked solid. I can always find a spot in Fenelon Falls but was hoping for an easy launch to Lower Buckhorn etc. Any suggestions welcome.

Thank you! Will give a call.

Not having much luck finding a local supplier of Sunbrella material in Hamilton area. No one seems to have any in stock (I'm not picky on color) and must order it in. I could order it also but hoped for somewhere local, just need 6 yrds. Any help would be very appreciated.

The bass on Balsam will basically stay right beside you and let you turn rocks over for them to eat the crayfish. If you're ever wondering if your lure speed is too fast watch how quick they snatch crayfish. No huge lunkers but a decent stringer! No wonder guys were fishing 20' off the swimming area.

Been a slow 2 weeks of fishing on Balsam this year. Nice muskie last year and the usual pike, bass and walleye but not this year. Been skunked more times than I can remember... Probably hit Buckhorn next month to hopefully change my luck. As for the muskies, just follow the thick weed beds and troll the drop offs. I've seen the muskie hunters out there still trying the usual spots.
