Can anyone help out at Balsam Lake next week?
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thank you for the replies guys. I have not been up to see it this year so hoping its not too wet underneath. Its a tandem axle trailer so not the easiest to tilt. Great ideas but still holding out for a 5 min. scissor trailer rental! "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth"-Jack Reacher -
Can anyone help out at Balsam Lake next week?

Wile E Coyote, crane, helicopter, Jedi, blood sweat tears or scissor trailer. Email has gone out looking for rental. -
Its a tall order but couldn't hurt to ask. I have a 16' pontoon boat sitting on 2X10 planks that needs to be moved. Its a fixer upper that I'm taking home to put the new seats in etc. It sits 100' from the water but I need it on the trailer. Either it goes into the water and than on the trailer or straight on the trailer. I've been coming up with all these ideas (winches/jacks,blocks etc.). Last year there was a scissor pontoon trailer 50' away that would be perfect but not sure if its there and never been able to find the owner. Hoping someone in the area can help or I can start looking for a scissor trailer rental. Or I can get my old school geometry books out and jack it up, put a block under, jack it up, put a block under, winch, etc.

Navionics... Depends on your location. Also, buydeeper looks cool as a fishfinder...

I will be driving a SUV and the trailer is 22' with 2 axles. With the pontoon bunks the width will be 8'. The pontoon is a small 16' with 30hp. Not exactly sure on towing capacity of trailer but if anything I thought it would be overkill for the light pontoon.

I went by the mto site and now feel pretty confident what extra lights I'll need. My short - wide trailer requires 2 yellow forward clearance lights and 2 red rear clearance lights, and a red light array across back frame between signals. Also need a license plate light and of course the 2 front yellow side marker lights. Now wiring it all "clean" is another story as I'll be looking for nice metal clips to secure the wiring to the 2X2 metal tube braces. If I find 2X2" 1/4"thick steel tubing PLASTIC end caps I guess I could route through them but I planned on welding metal caps on...

That MTO link is perfect, thank you.

Just finishing up tandem trailer converted for Pontoon use. I've been looking over the mto stuff on the net but have not found a definative page regarding safety rules / lights etc. Its a pontoon trailer 21' long 8' wide and want to make sure all the regulations are covered. Thx ahead.

Heading up next week and have been searching the net for ice/water conditions. Would be interesting to see any pics from all the local lakes (Scugog/Pigeon/Rice) etc. Chomping at the bit... Is there a site that hosts this information? Water level information is great but "Pictures are worth..." Thanks.

Looking for trailer bunk carpet & fabric in Hamilton area...
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
thx guys! -
Gotta get this boat and trailer ready soon! Looking for affordable outdoor carpet to cover some 2X6X16's. Went to Home Depot today but didn't see the usual "green astroturf"... I see some outdoor carpet but not sure if suitable. Also, redoing boat furniture and have purchased vinyl and foam and built the furniture but seamstress says I'm missing "outdoor bunting"? It goes between the foam and the wood... Hoping to avoid online stuff and would like to pick up in the area. Suggestions are more than welcome!

First, want to thank everyone that has helped and made suggestion, very much appreciated! My question is that I have stripped down a tandem boat trailer and ready to place support bars (4) across to hold the bunks. The pontoon boat is a small 16' and was wondering: 1) Should the bunk lengths 2X6 be 16'? Planned on 16' but saw some pictures of pontoon boats hanging a foot or so behind the bunk? The trailer is a 20' tandem trailer but I guess any extra space at the front is nice. The boat is a relative light one and its a tandem trailer (probably overkill) so weight balance isn't a huge factor. The inner guide bunks will be installed soon also.

Thanks guys for the heads up. Went to MTO, they gave me a simple bill of sale to fill. Ran the sellers plate without VIN and used a file# instead. Once the sale is done its $10 for new ownership. Sweet.

Got a good price on a used trailer and will pick up today. Its a regular old rusted trailer that needs sandblasting and a new paint job and wiring. I'll need to go through the usual with the axles and probably replace tires. Problem is that it has no ID or papers etc. and a little concerned about getting a license for it. The gentleman selling it is very upfront and obviously not trying to hide anything. I have his address, home number, cell number, license plate etc. Is there a protocol when purchasing to avoid hassles? Thank you.

Since this is a fishing forum perhaps the discussion should lead to: Navionics (Anyone get it to sideload properly yet to run on the Playbook)? Anyone tried the new app "GPS Nautical Maps"? A cheap 7" tablet allowing for bluecharts with GPS navigation with no online $$ data needed is a dream for boat owners. Talking with a friend last night we wondered why no one had shipped in a million cheap $40 tablets from China with weather proofing preloaded with a Nautical program and sell at Bass Pro/Sail/CT for $200. The cheap China tablets are no where close to new models but more than enough for a cheap "chartmaster". Heck, why not add a bluetooth depth finder accessory while they are at it? Awe.... we can dream. Sorry, don't mean to jack the thread, but at $120 the BB Playbook would be awesome in a boat with proper weather proofing and glare screen.

I have Navionics for my phone and am pretty happy with it. I thought it would be great to have a 7" display for Navionics mounted on the boat and especially with cheap Android tablets now available. Ended up with a Blackberry Playbook last year that is nice but has no native support for a lot of Android Apps. Another problem with Android apps is that they are made for small screen and really don't scale up well. The Playbook is a great device for the price but I really miss apps like Slingplayer and Skype.... Okay back to fishing. Recently found a app called "GPS Nautical Charts" that seems Playbook friendly. I inquired about possible maps and was told the Trent Severn waterway including Lake Simcoe and nearby lakes was just included. Has anyone tried this app? It has a trial version and I've installed it but sitting in a living-room is tough to test it!

Never had great luck in the fall. Any tips?
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Sorry guy, looking for the standards - bass/pike etc. -
A friend is dying to get out this year and as its getting late so we are scouting a spot. Summer fishing has been great but my fall fishing success is ZERO. The last couple of Falls I've hit Buckhorn, Skugog and Stoney but have had 2 boat skunked each time. Obviously no fishing is guaranteed but really hoping to keep my buddy happy. For Oct 1st should we spend 2 hours driving to Buckhorn or stay closer with Rice etc? I remember last year that Buckhorn looked awesome but I think we had one follower the whole day. Thx ahead.

Suggestions for boat upholstery supplies?
Raycaster replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Thank you for the replies. Yes, will replace drivers seat with a low-back seat at that price for sure. Didn't mention but its a pontoon boat and the I rebuilt all the furniture but just need the vinyl now. Will check out Len's Mill, again thx. -
Replacing all the seats vinyl and cushions in a "fixer upper" boat. I have a friend that will do all upholstery but I'm looking of course to get it done cheaply. Of course sticking to "marine grade" outdoor vinyl/foam etc. but just wondering if anyone here has recently found some good deals. I'm in the Hamilton area and have been told there are decent shops downtown (ottawa street) etc. Also told online is the best way to go and the best economically even with shipping cost. My wife is "auditing" the "fix up"... Thx ahead.
-
Just want to start by saying thanks to all. As a very naive new owner of a "fixer-upper" boat I have had a ton of questions answered here. Purchased a small pontoon boat as trade-off with the family as a true fishing boat just wasn't in the cards. Anyways, looking for "Y" bunk brackets for a standard boat trailer to convert for simple transportation. The brackets for the 2X6X10' planks seem simple enough but purchasing would be easier. The are available in the states but can't seem to find an Ontario store. Again, thank you for all the help.

Thanks guys, since its fiberglass wondering if one of those rental portable diamond blade saws would be quicker "slicing and dicing" than a reciprocating saw with metal blade?
-
Thanks Guys. Will phone today. $327 Installed. Is it worth to install myself and save $75? I'm handy and good with wiring.

Need a hitch for a 2003 Windstar and just wondering if better to deal straight with Trailer Hitch Stores or online or maybe Princess Auto? Towing a small 16' pontoon boat. Thanks ahead of time.

Got a great deal on a used boat but alas no trailer... Lots of ads "boat & trailer" where the boat is junk but the trailer is usable. It would be nice to buy a new trailer but the wallet's not in the mood. Anyways, just wondering on the work and cost of disposing a old fiberglass boat (without motor). I'm handy with a reciprocating saw and not afraid of a little work but don't need a $500 bill at the dump. Thanks ahead.
