  1. Thought this might interest some.

Just read in yesterdays Free Press:

A Port Stanley commercial fisher has been fined $6500 for exceeding the walleye Quota on his commercial fishing licence.

Daniel Bastien, 43, was convicted of exceeding the walleye quota on his 2007 licence

    by 2370 lbs.

Natural resources Ministry officials said Bastientold a port officer he was over quota

and that a quota transfer request had been submitted, but an investigation revealed

Bastien had landed fish three times after exceeding his quota.

  2. I just purchased one for the father in Christmas. I have the previous modelthe I-way. Mine has been great and would recommend the brand to any one. The Zog does so much more than the older model. I was catually thinking of selling mine and upgrading. If you can find it for that price your in good shape, usually around $300 cdn.

  3. I have XM and it is great. If you like Nascar it was with XM and is now exclusively on Sirius, I have been told that the sports are better on Sirius as well but I have a friend who sells both at his shop and he says that XM by far has the better reception. Also as to Gerritts reply, even if you buy a stand alone unit( I have the MIFI ) so you can use it in the house, car, boat etc. and you are using an after market head unit you can buy an adapter that direct wires to the head unit. In remote areas FM modulation is no problem, but don't try it just off shore in Toronto it can be a pain in the a__. The adapter is fairly inexpensive. Also check the difference between channels on the one you choose if you sign up in Canada or in the US. There was quite a big difference at one time, the CRTC would not allow a lot of channels. I signed up in the US because of this.

  4. There was a recipe in a previous Ontario Out of Doors magazine for a venison soup that I had a chance to try last weekend and loved it but cannot find it any where. I was told it used V8 for the base. Can any one help me out, not even sure what issue it was in and so far cannot get logged in to their site to ask them.

  5. Gerritt glad to hear Jos could help you out, he is amazing with the electronics and as a small town shop he can usually beat all the big guys or stay very competitive. I spend 99% of my fishing money with him and price is only a very small part of the reason. I actually called him from the lake when I had trouble with my Eagle (new to it) and he talked me through it on a Saturday morning when I know his shop was swamped, Service is fantastic. If you ever need something from him and can't make the trip let me know and I can pick it up for you and ship it if needed, it gives me an excuse to make the trip :clapping: :clapping:

  6. I also have a pretty good idea who Santa might be and although I have yet to meet him face to face I know there are few as thoughtful as him, and just as few as deserving as you. I know you were the second OFNer I ever met and after 10 minutes of meeting you you gave me a brand new lure because I couldn't find one at the tackle shops. What comes around always goes around. Nice to see.

  7. I met a guy on Simcoe two years ago using one on a new Hitachi cordless with two batteries. It was a five or 6 inch quality auger and we were cutting 30 inches of ice right beside him. I have had the Swede bore from CTC and since upgraded to a better model it cuts in half the time. He said he carried two batteries in the inside pocket of his parka to keep them worm and he could punch 30 or 40 holes. IMHO you need to buy a good auger, a top quality cordless and the batteries need to be in good condition. Instead of all the hassle buy a top quality auger for around $120 and you will be amazed at how little effort is needed to blow through the ice.
