Younge one I seen your update but the only thing you missed was what is the dealer saying about retribution. Is he looking at replacing the boat for you. Just curious as to how you make out.

I am getting ready for a trip to Haliday lake just South of Timmins, this will be my first trip that far North. I was wondering if any of you have fished either of these lakes before and have any recommendations. Also how are the black flies this year, we will be arriving the Sunday of the long weekend and staying until Friday. I know this lake has a good population of pike and walleye, any thing I should make sure I have in the tackle box.

I just read the article in the Extreme Angler annual about using large soft body jerk baits for pike, have any of you tried them and how did you make out? I am thinking of trying them out. Any suggestions on brand, colour and presentation.

I also bought the Salus marine life jackets and I am very happy with them. Extra bonus is they are made in Ontario.

I thought they made hulls for a bunch of boat manufacturers. I though they made some for Legend but not sure.

One thing I liked about the dealer I bought my boat from is that he water tests every boat before delivery. Not a big deal but helps iron out the little bugs and may have caught your problem before wrecking your day. Hope you get it fixed for next weekend.

Lew the Duelers are a great tire also, they would be my second choice for a truck. Just me Gerritt but I would stay away from the Goodyear's, not even comparable to the Dueler or LTX.

Those combo's will make great spares for when friends come out. Thanks for the heads up Irishfield.

Gerritt, I have been around the tire business for years and have installed Michelins on several of my vehicles. They don't come cheap but the LTX in my opinion is the best light truck tire on the market. Here in London one shop that has the contract for the Thames Valley Ambulances was removing the tires the trucks came with before they went into service and installing the LTX's. They ordered them with a cheaper tire and got so much flack from the drivers they changed them all until the next contract where they specified the Michelins again.

Slowpoke I voted Lowrance but like Lowrance and Eagle as well. Some of the new Eagle products have the same resolution and toys as their Lowrance cousins for a few bucks cheaper. As far as the hand held remote for the bow mount I bought the Minnkota power drive model it comes with about 20 feet of very soft cable that you can sit beside you any where in the boat and use your foot or hands to steer. I also love the auto pilot feature on that model.

Oops on the name. The bunks should be adjustable and that may be all that is necessary to get it to sit right.

Jen why is it to big, from the pictures it looks like the winch is near the start of the tongue and the transom is fully supported on the bunks the way it should be but the trailer is not sticking out past the transom.

They can be a pain for casting but I burn very easy and a spot to get out of the sun is a savior for me. As said before early spring and late fall fishing especially on the bigger lakes is great and one last thing last year at the French we wanted to do some drifting for walleye and there wasn't much wind and we weren't having much success so I put the top up and we nailed three walleye and 4 pike in a very short time.

I used it a bit on Sunday and the thing I liked the most was not one birds nest. Since this is my first bait caster the dealer gave me a quick lesson in the parking lot and everything went very well for the first trip.

I think they have a promotion on right now( I just got one from my dealer) that there is a self addressed envelope in the package you send to Navionics and they send you a FishnChip cartridge for the US completely free. I may never fish the US but just in case free is a great price. Th e package said it is not for navigation but as an accessory to your Gold+.

Done it before with walleye fillets a little butter and lemon, hard to beat.

No Irishfield, I just had the stuff there for the perch shot and left it. Now if the crappie had been bigger than the perch, well :whistling:

For pan fish I prefer a light batter of fine bread crumbs (can be Italian with the seasonings in) or simply flour salt and pepper. Dip in flour first then in egg wash then into breading and fry in butter not margarine. I prefer this because the pan fish are so mild it doesn't over power them. Dipping in flour first helps to keep the breading on the fish.

It depends on the water your fishing and the species your targeting. I love to try for walleye in the evening and after dark but have never had much luck for pike after dark.

We decided that Sunday looked like a great day to put the boat in the water. Wife had to work, so it was just me and my son until the father in law called and offered to join in. Headed for the Old Cut at Long Point but we were way to late for the Tourney. Got there around 9:15 fishing by 10. Why did it take us so long to get our rods in the water you ask, first of all having never launched out of old cut I made a turn out towards the lake a little early and found a very nice sand bar, no biggie backed out and carried on. That is until my son said " dad why is there water in the boat " Oh crap first time I have ever forgotten to put the plug in. Hammer down try to get it up on plane, flip the bilge switch and run around in open water for a while. Give the wheel to the father in law and go to the back to insert the plug. Now we can fish. Headed out to EC10, first 10 minutes I got one nice perch and not another bite. We moved once and then the wind came up and boats started heading for the ramp. We decided to head in and on the way in we seen a couple of boats had tucked in behind Old Cut to shelter from some of the wind.We decided to give it a try. Good decision, perch action was non stop. A lot of small ones but at least we were catching something. Between the three of us we kept 25-30 perch and headed in. At the ramp we ran into a friend that had been fishing crappie and had 7 in the live well. Nobody on his boat wanted to clean them so he gave them to me, great I have never tried crappy before so this was a nice surprise. I have had rock bass and blue gill but never crappy. In the end it was a great day and learning experience. On a side note my hull plug is in from the inside and always liked the nice clean look from the outside but after Sunday I will never put it in from the Outside for certain. It was very easy to reach and install without leaning way over the back. In my opinion much safer.
