Thanks all. I was looking at the Fin Bore III, but wasn't sure about size. Will 6" be good for lakers? but I will probably fishing mostly for panfish.
Six inch, would be pushing it for lakers. That's the reason, I went for the 8"...some of those Simcoe "greys" can get pretty darn fat.
-
Just picked up an 8" Fin Bore III last week, works like a charm. If you fish mostly for panfish and or walleye, get the 6".
Personally I stayed away from used, augers aren't really that expensive...well, the Nils gets up there, but, I figured for $89.99 I was buying new.

Nice Rich!! Good day of solitude, and, fish.
-
Nice feed of perch!!

You'll never drag your rectangle deathtrap far enough to get to them!
He might with Juli's help
Juli heard me laughing, said only if you don't have that behemoth of a battery!!!!!!!!!

WORST REPORT EVER!!!
Hurry up and get healthy "pneumonia boy"!!! We'll get you out there for a skunking too, lol!!! Nah, next time we nail them!
-
Great, informative, post!! Lakers truly are made for ice fishing!!! Congrats to the GF on an absolute beauty!
-
Having fun is what it is all about Geoff. Good that you guys had a good time in cold conditions.
-
Ouch, on the back. Nice on the lakers. Looks like the herring are coming back, big time...should start seeing some really big lakers in the next few years, I would think.
-
Not sure what all the complaint is about, I was getting bit pretty regularly all day. :-)
You know, there was a joke made of me being out in the open all day. But that really is why I caught fish. I kept moving, kept changing tactics, kept bombing spoons.. in turn - kept getting bites.
That said, after a day of drilling non stop holes and freezing my bum off in the open - I wish I got skunked comfortably in a hut. LOL
Think you are "bang on" with why you had more hits, Rich. On a wicked cold front day like yesterday, they sure aren't moving much...so it pays to find them.
I had a little spurt of decent action, in the first location...must have tried almost everything I had in my ice fishing tackle box, but that was it.
Sure was cozy in the hut, though, lol!!

I have a clam 2000 hut, and very happy with it. Quicker setting it up, than a cube pop out and flyaway parachute hut.
Love mine, too. The only drawback is if two guys the size of Brian and I were in it with fishfinder, heater, etc...it gets a bit cramped.
The set-up/stability/transportability are great!
-
Very nice!! Should have used that angle for quitting smoking two and a half years ago, maybe I'd have a bigger boat

1 cancellation and another cant join for personal reasons.
Targeting trout. pike
Meet up in the hammer or grimsby
I have a hut, heater, etc
pm me if you wish to join. back by 1pm.
Go get 'em, Vince. If I didn't have to work, I'd be up for it.

? for yas.
Are the stocked species open all year? or no?
Im thinking no.
On that pond that is.
That's a big no, Vince. Can only keep panfish out of there during hardwater season.

Me having fun with my new auger
Juli in the hut, finally figured out why we had such hard luck, today, was that pink/black Leafs toque she was wearing
Juli did lose a really nice perch at the hole shortly before we left. We'll get 'em next time, guys. By the way, Ryan, thanks for picking up the minnows today!!!
-
Are you talking about Averie or Juli?
Thought he was talking about me!!!!!
-
Thanks, Ryan!! We still had great time. By the way, Juli needed that exercise...insert image of me ducking, lol!!
I'll add a few pics in a little bit.
Rich kicked all our butts, he deserved it for being out in the elements all morning/early afternoon!!
-
So what your saying is...you got perch, lol!! Still better than a day at work, Terry!!

I've got problet the cheapest of the cheap. Its an Ugly Stick and has served me well. You said you dont get out ice fishing much so I wouldnt go crazy with those cadilac rods and save your money for some extra jigs.
The nice thing about ice fishing is the "cadillac rods" are still cheap. But, I know what you are saying.

Like Steve sez...this stool like chair is much easier to get off of when your alarm goes off rather than struggling out of a camp chair...I've gone through 3 camp chairs the past few years no matter how strong they say they are but this one keeps on ticking...
Folds down for easier carrying...
Interesting alternative. How's the weight, do the legs rust?
-
Yeah, I've seen that one before! Pretty slick, not exactly light weight, but, a cool idea.
-
I find the tri-pod chairs to be ball-breakers. No fun sitting all day with your junk squished.

Should probably elaborate, on that a bit...I prefer the Premier, 24 or 28" in a hut...can go longer if fishing outside.
Which auger?
