  1. Hmmm...well in that case I personally wouldn't use that style of rig, it's not quite as natural as a simpler rig. Hey everyone's different but I'd first run some type of sliding sinker like an egg sinker onto your main line. When you feel a hit open your bail and feed line to the fish. Your line slips through the egg sinker and the fish feels no resistance.... Next slide a small bead on your line and tie your mainline to a 2 way swivel. The bead acts as a cushion between your egg sinker and your knot. Next, tie a tippet onto the other end of your swivel, something that's lighter than your mainline. Short (2-3') if the water is roiled or murky or longer (3-6') if the water is clear. If getting your bait up off the bottom is important try running a small floater on your line like one of these: You can let the floater slide freely on your tippet right up to your hook, or for a more finesse presentation, before you tie your hook on run your tippet through the floater twice and lock it in place on your line. When I do that I'll generally place the floater about 1' from my hook. Another option for keeping worms off the bottom is to eliminate the floater entirely. Simply hook the worm once through the nose and inject some air into its tail with one of these: cheers, Mike
  2. Describe exactly what scenario you want to use the rig in. From shore or boat? Fishing vertically or a long cast away? What bait?
  3. Okaaay....maybe it was personal . Hey Jason, check your pm's bud.
  4. Cool, I'll have to see if I can track some of this stuff down. Personally the best coffee I've ever had in my life was in Cuba while bumming around on Cayo Coco. No idea exactly what it was, but it was ambrosia . The worst? I lived and worked in Manila for a spell and the coffee over there was hideous, LOL! (3 years of pure hell for me)
  5. Relax Nate, I don't think this was a personal attack on you or even guys that use float reels, but it soon could be if you continue in this vein. You have a point but that's not the way to make it. Don't take everything so personally....
  6. Aww shut yer pie hole ya dam redhead!
  7. I'm a lover not a fighter so that wouldn't work for me .
  8. Depends on where you fish Wayne. I'd be happy to guide you for a day with lots of fish and no people . In response to the thread, the lack of etiquette is a common problem on our crowded rivers and has been since long before the internet was around. In fact, as far as Ontario rivers go I'll go so far as to say that if anything the crowds were worse back in the 70's when I started to fish steelhead. Back then the crowds at places like Thornbury, Meaford, Southampton and Port Hope were utterly ridiculous (and I've got the pic's to prove it ). Hey, there's nothing more annoying than getting greased out of a spot you're fishing but what can you do? The only answer is drive a little further and put in the footwork and walk a little further to escape the pressure.
  9. Congrat's Joey, beautiful fish!, sounds like a perfect trip.
  10. Very generous of Shawn to show you the ropes, kudos to him. Great report btw, those are some healthy looking fish! Definitely bodes well for the OFC gang heading over there this weekend .
  11. Trust me Mike I was actually plastered in mud, guess it just blended in with my attire. In fact before I left yesterday I went to the power washer and hosed myself off from head to toe . Thanks everyone for the nice comments, cheers, Mike
  12. Beautiful fish and even nicer surroundings, wtg guys!
  13. Nice brownies bud......or should I say atlantics?
  14. So, how 'bout them Leafs? (the fish is a brown)
  15. Yep, don't know how else to describe the last day and 1/2, Saturday we fished from dawn 'till dusk and pretty much hooked fish all day, I felt like I was beat up with a baseball bat by the end of the day, but it was sooo worth it! . Probably the most sheer fun I've had fishing so far in /07.. This morning was decent as well, but the crowds were brutal compared to Saturday. We fished 'till around 11 then booked it outta there and headed home. I'll let the pic's speak for themselves. Gotta go ice down my arm now . Cheers, Mike
  16. Isn't Ontario great?, such incredible fishing opportunities so close to the largest urban centre in the country. Nice report bud, looks like a good spot to drop your new boat in .
  17. WTG Jen, sounds like a fun day!
  18. Personally I like 8lb on my spinning reels...
