  1. Since this was posted months ago I've been thinking about it. It's only 15 mins down the road from my place.... But did you have to schedule it for the trout opener? You're killin' me here.
  2. Sounds like you may have a good deal regardless Sil, go for it.
  3. WTG Paul, a well deserved fish indeed.
  4. Do you mean that literally or figuratively?
  5. Other Nakina outfitters that are a notch above AWO and offer outstanding fishing on single cabin lakes are: www.luenberger.ca http://www.timberidgefishing.com/lakes.htm
  6. Unless there's another one that's the one I was talking about.
  7. I used to know someone who had a cottage on that lake, he always said the fishing was tough and the walleyes were mostly small. Would love to know if that's true or not, I've driven by that lake countless times.... Best of luck to you and your group.
  8. I know you're right. Some of those pic's are virtually identical to a few from my Manistee trip when I fished from a boat...
  9. Outstanding! Love what you did with the pic's.
  10. I was checked once on my lake in N/W Quebec by an OPP boat with an officer driving and a C.O. in the bow. I happened to have a couple of cans of Bud in a small cooler at my feet when they approached out of nowhere. Have to admit I was a bit concerned until they pulled alongside to check licenses and the waves of rye emanating from the C.O. almost knocked me over. I actually had to turn my head away from him it was so bad LOL!
  11. That's a biggun' for sure, good job!
  12. I was thinking of you bro, next time for sure.
  13. Yep, the same spots continue to produce year after year, the old river doesn't change much. How'd you find yourself moving to N/W Ontario? That's a move I'd love to make myself.

  15. Met up with Bill (BillM on the board) on Saturday for a day of steelheading on one of my favourite north Huron rivers. The river is hard to access in its lower reaches, wide, deep and somewhat featureless. This makes fishing from a boat a huge advantage and that was our game plan utilizing Billy's 15' Legend. Would the boat launch be usable and the river free of ice? We really had no idea, driving the 3 hours up there and taking our chances was the only option. Upon arrival it was a good news bad news scenario. On the plus side the river was wide open and looked prime. On the downside the ramp was still partially snow covered and blocked in with a sizable snow bank compliments of the road plow. Still Bill gave it a shot, and although we did get the truck stuck for a short while perseverance prevailed and we finally launched and loaded the boat. With zero wind we first cruised out to the lake to see if we could connect with some pods of staging fish. Pack ice halted our progress not too far out, but man did it look good! Alas there was nothing happening at the lake so we began the task of slowly and thoroughly working our way up the river, anchoring just above likely looking seams and drifting our offerings down to the fish. We didn't get a ton of fish yesterday, but there's definitely something to be said for quality over quantity. All the fish were bright chrome and a couple were absolute tanks putting up long and drawn out battles. I'll let the photos speak for themselves: Several other fish were hooked, fought and lost, including one that felt absolutely huge (never even got a glimpse of it). We had planned on staying overnight, but the river was rising from snowmelt throughout the day and was pretty much trashed by the time we left. Not complaining though, what a fantastic day!! Cheers, Mike
  16. Beauty fish Ben. I used to fish with my wife all the time before kids came along, enjoy it while you can.
  17. You weren't kidding bud, that is a beauty fish! (Call me tomorrow when you have a sec, our plans have been firmed up. )
  18. Speed limit, 15 mins, 20 max, no problem. (assuming no traffic)
  19. Yep I hear ya. Flying your own plane is after all the sport for the masses, heck everybody's doing it these days LOL! Y'know I'm gonna get right on that tomorrow, see if maybe I can Red Green something together in the backyard. (They don't call duct tape 100mph tape fer nuthin'! )
  20. Drive 15 mins down the hwy and fish Port Dalhousie in St. Kitt's, that'd be your best bet.
  21. If I win the lottery that's exactly what I'd be doing, I can't imagine anything better .
  22. Fished it numerous times in May, never quite that late. As Rustic said the fish will be a bit deeper especially lakers, although mornings, evenings and overcast days you'll still likely get them on top. As he said you should have one rod rigged to fish deep for lake trout. Most popular is the tried and true steel line fished by the guy in the bow of the canoe with a constant pumping of the rod. If steel line isn't your thing a stiff spinning rod or light baitcaster spooled with 10lb braid should do the trick. Snap weights are okay but I much prefer a wolf river rig when trolling deep with braid. Light flutter spoons and smallish floating stickbaits (especially perch coloured) work well trolled with this set up. You can also simply flatline a lure like a Luhr Jensen Power Dive Minnow (chrome/blue) and catch lots of lakers. On a long line with braid they can get down 30-40' easy. For specks work the deeper shorelines.. The island cluster in the central part of the lake at the entrance to the east arm is a good place to try for lakers and specks. Crow bay can be good for specks especially where it spills into Lavielle. Good luck (and bring lots of deet ).
  23. I fished it a few times waay back in the day. I'm pretty sure you're referring to Pakeshag Lake. Portage over the train tracks and fish the water on the other side. We caught some decent buckets and about a million crappie back there. My guess is you'll be mostly dissapointed with the fishing though. It's a very nice park with small quiet lakes, but even back then it was mostly tapped out. (unless your goal is snotrocket pike). You'd be far better off driving 15 mins further up 69 and throwing your canoe or boat in the Pickeral river at Danny's Marina. Much prettier, tons of campsites and infinitely better fishing.
