  1. as for the leaky containers I normally cut out a small X on the seal just big enough for me to pull a bait or two out.. and then put an elastic band around the bottom of the threads on the container seems to work well.. havnt really had any problems since! or you could store them In containers such as small peanut butter jars.. that dont leak. thats another thing I do

but hey.. what would I know ? haha

Yeah I hear people complaining about them leaking all the time but have never had a problem and then I realized it was because I left the foam/foil stuff attached and only peeled it back half way seals the lid completly I have a tub of 5" jerk shads that have been bouncing around in the boat for a couple years without leaking a drop I only use them for a trailer on buck tails for pike when the bite slows down so I don't go through very many but it's getting low so I have bought some packages and tossed them in the sauce so now I have a assorted bucket can't wait to toss some leeches to the smallies on LPB next weekend.

  2. Shimano purchased G. Loomis in 1997.

their quality has not suffered one bit in the last 13 years.

if anything, Loomis rods have improved by a whole lot, mainly because Shimano left the company alone.

the only thing that they did that pissed people off was made the availablity of rod blanks for rod builders a lot less available.

that was the one complaint that I have heard many times over the years since the buy out.

"my fav. rod blank isn't available anymore.."

I have a few Loomis rods, the SJR782 in GL3 is the best overall spinning rod I have ever used. its awesome. I find my self reaching for that rod more than any other in my arsenal smile.gif

back when G. Loomis Canada had a plant in Mount Hope, I had to use the warranty for a broken rod. I got a brand new baitcasting rod for $60. a new one would have been 4 times that much.

however, now that G. Loomis Canada has apparently closed down that plant, I am not sure how the warranty will work in Canada as all Loomis rods are now G. Loomis USA rods. the one I got from basspro a few years ago says 'usa' on the rod decal..

probably just means you have to ship it down to the states for warranty issues. A real pain in the ass now that Loomis Canada is not around.. or are they?

    can anyone explain what happened?

I just had to warranty a rod last year sent it to Canadian address can't remember off hand cost $75 shipped to my door no ??? 's asked

  3. Should point out that G Loomis was also recently bought out by Shimano, and it is widely felt that this will hurt the quality of G Loomis rods as Shimano will try and fit them in their rod "hierarchy."

Also, if fancy rods are more sensitive and you can feel more structure and finicky bites then they certainly do catch more fish.

    Nice pickup.

that happened a few years ago I got stuck with a broken $695 float rod that they stopped honouring the warranty on I was ticked

  4. What is the Gloomis world like...I was holding a 7'2H "Topwater" rod it was called by loomis. Pretty nice feeling but not sure about them yet...there pricy but seem to be specific in actions.

LOOMIS rods are great but they are pricey that's why I only have 1 for bass fishing and 1 for steelheading the rest of my bass gear is all LTW shimano or quantum what ever was on sale at the time of purchase not being picky has saved me a lot of $$$

  5. Starcraft, Sylvan and Smoker Craft are all the same boat .... built in the same plant by the same staff.

I wouldn't say they are the same boat they may be built in the same plant but so is a corolla and a lexus RX 350. Starcraft are much nicer fit and finish than the other 2 from what I have seen but all 3 are nice boats for the money.

  6. OMG YOU PUT ITS HEAD ON A BLUE BOAT SEAT!!! READ A FRIGGIN BOOK ABOUT MUSKIE FISHING

    LOL

To the OP nice musky you did the best you could with what you had hopefully the fish survived and you now know you were a bit under prepared for the beast and won't do it next time I am scared to go for ski's cause I will prolly be hooked after the first 1 I have only ever had 1 on and didn't land it while pike fishing I'm sure this won't be your last musky post.

  7. I don't think so.

If your battery dies an anchor instead of a paddle won't help you much.

The anchor will do more than 2 paddles ever will in a strong wind (if its the right anchor) my brother got caught in a wind storm on long point fishing the marsh along the causeway and his tolling motor died trying to get back to Pt Rowan he threw his anchor and called for help he was half way to EC-10 when the guys got there to tow him in. he now has A LOT more respect for the water and for the weather he was heading for the outer bay with a anchor down with 50' of rope out in 8 FOW .It's better to have to much than not enough .

  8. When I can see bottom in 2-3FOW it is "clear" I'm used to fishing a river that is always brown from sediment so when you guys think its murky it looks crystal clear to me LOL the spot by the dam in paris was very clear and with my polarized glasses could see quite far into the water my home river is still brown.

  9. bet that drum fought like crazy for a few seconds LOL they fight hard at first and just die off we have caught a couple 10+lb sheepies in LPB on big tubes also 1 was in a tourny thought we had bigfish for sure and then we see a sheephead .nice smallies 2 less than a month to go I can't wait till opener.

  10. Well the next time you see Dave Mercer you can tell him and any other fishing celebrities you worship that he is WRONG...I just double checked and NYS does NOT stock any bass whatsoever...Maybe Dave was just trying to get NYS to sponsor him. :rofl2:

But anyways here the info you and Dave didn't know about.

    http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7742.html

    http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/21668.html

He said Dave M was in the tourney not that Dave said NYS stocks bass so I am not sure why your taking a shot at him for trying to get a sponsor which he was not doing, mabye a little jelous ? I personally would love to see more bass sanctuaries like on long point bay the bay gets absolutely raped bass opener and still has a amazing bass fishery there is always going to be poachers no matter what we do some people just won't follow the rules all we can do as responsible anglers is not fall into there ways and lead by example and educate as many fairweather fishermen as you can when ever you can

  11. Every time I think of moving south...i'm gonna read this thread :wallbash:

How do you guys do it anyway?

Just wait for my bass opener report from Long point bay 1-2000 boats in a small bay maybe 3-4k's across all converged on one area in the middle. you can almost walk across and people are whipping around in speedboats ,jet ski's and trolling right through groups of anchored boats. theirs a guy that insists on getting out his scarab with twin 502ci big blocks and flying up the north channel were 75% of the boats are fishing and then he will stand on the bow like its a bass boat and fish for smallies .It's a absolute zoo and I can't wait for it LOL.

  12. Very nice! Its a shame about keeping those females with all those eggs, but it amazes me how it doesn't even put a dent in the perch fishery.

I fished Erie this weekend also kept 25 perch all were spawned out except 1 little male that was hooked deep not 1 of the big girls had eggs left and fish were being caught from 18 to 55 FOW. BTW those are huge perch makes the 13"ers I caught tiny

  13. How about people going 70 mph on their sea-doos need to wear a lifejacket, and those of us who are sane have the option to wear one when at risk (and not have to when not).

    70 mph!!! You're nuts.

LOL I slowed down just before I hit a piece of floating driftwood the owner a older gentleman said I wonder how fast this thing will go the lake was flat so I volenteered it was great till I hit that hunk of wood

This was a few years ago I would never do that speed now that I have a little one to take care of. it should be mandatory while under power anyone that owns a boat knows how many clowns go flying around way to close to other boats all it takes is 1 collision were people weren't wearing lifejackets and 4 people drown cause they wanted to make their own decisions in life doesn't matter how good a swimmer you are if your knocked out. Life jackets save lives
