  1. Did anyone else make it out fishing on Christmas this year?

My girlfriend and I rented a Yurt on a private lake for 2 nights over Christmas.

We had an amazing time!  But the fishing was very slow.  We tried everything we had, but only managed on perch!!

We cooked Christmas dinner on the BBQ, and it turned out amazing!

    A few pics for ya'll.

  2. I have been using a 2 sock system that was bought for me a few years ago as a Christmas gift.  Cant remember the name brands.  But the pack comes with a base layer sock that wicks the moisture away.  Then a thick wool outside layer.    So you are wearing 2 pairs of socks, but they work together like one to keep you warm and dry.

    They work amazing.

I just ordered a 25 pack unpainted 5mm of amazon.ca. They were $26.23 plus shipping. search tungsten shelt as that is the brand name of the jig

Figured it would be a decent painting experiment and keep me busy over the holidays waiting for some ice. Last year I bought a few packs of tungsten fly beads from Sail, Cost me a bout $10 a pack for 25 beads. These can slip over the hook and are easy to epoxy to the back of the jig body so I just upgraded a bunch of the old lead heads I had already. Bought the 1/8 and 1/32 size to play with. Both seemed to work fine

Thanks for the idea man!  Sounds decent.

PoolThe link is me. Best to pm me from that page. I sell the kit for $60 or $70 shipped. Pick up can be in Whitby or Cobourg depending on my work schedule. Case is empty on the other side. Three different sizes. 6mm, 5mm, 3mm. Screenshot_20191208_084901_com.facebook.katana.jpg.8f134ea8e87d7a23f8092aa03eb21500.jpg

I assume they come with the case and everything shown? Does the price include shipping as well?  I'm in Barrie.

if so, that's a great deal.  I'll have to track you down and maybe get in touch.

I got 6 jigs at Trembleys yesterday.  But it cost me 23 bucks.  I need them for tomorrow though, so I couldn't wait any longer.

  5. I was forced to quit a job I really loved.  Teaching at Georgian College.

I was a part time instructor, and did contact work a few other companies while not teaching.  It was great.  Tons of flexibility.  Great working environment.

BUT...  The bank would not give me a mortgage being a contractor.  So I had to quit and get a full time job.  My intention was to return to teaching in a few years once my mortgage had settled out.  But while I was on a hiatus from teaching, the union went on strike and they changed around the entire part time teaching situation.  And now there is no way in hell I will be able to return to teaching because they are basing it all on seniority not, that I don't have.

  6. I bought my VW golf in October 2006.  And sold it in 2010.   So sometime in that period.  I was way off with my guess of 15 years!!

With the -26 temps the next 2 nights, it will firm up the nasty layer of water between the 2" of clear and the 1.5" of froze slush I was on this weekend.

That long ago ? Seemed like just yesterday we were there. Right Terry,,,,,,,,,,,,,😎

It does seem like yesterday.  Might have only been 10 years ago.

I am thinking ya. We need a new crazier then us guy these days. LOL

You two have been to that spot with before.  Maybe 15 years ago.  If you recall following my in the VW golf in about a foot of snow until the back road began, then I jumped in to the back of Terry's liberty and we 4x4'd our way in!

The ice wasn't much better this time around!!!

Nick the fact you found walkable ice within driving too far is very promising. My plans to be out there this past weekend got called off, but im hoping by Friday i can sneak out on mine for some early ice pike!

also what happened to your yellow suit!?

I sold the Banana suite to my buddy last year, and got a 2 piece.   Much nicer for fishing in the hut.

  10. The ice was garbage.  But I don't mind.  Been doing the early ice thing for close to 2  decades now, so I know the rules.

Didn't have to drive to far north to find some walk able ice.   And as usual, my crew was the first one out this year.  The fishing was OK.  Way more dinks this year that I have seen in the past.  But we still managed to bring home about 20 for the pan.

No minnows in my area.  Huronia B&T was closed in the morning. So we went at them with soft plastics (not my preference).  The ticket today was a 1/8 ounce tungsten tear drop with a single gulp maggot.

Maybe one or 2 more trips for crappie, then hopefully Simcoe will be locked up and I can save gas money driving north!!!

  11. I just listened to the video again with my head phone cranked up.

Originally, I thought it was the baby noise you where talking about.  Cuz that sounds like a rabbit in distress.   But now that I have herd that demonic sound in the back ground, I am confused.

My guess would be a wolf or dog as mentioned earlier.

    Creepy noise that's for sure.

I used to have a pile of fishers in my bush, and they would make some hair raising sounds.  But nothing that deep.

It's a big K9 or sasquash..  Gotta be.

Yup, voltage regulator should do it.  Keep those guides at about 50 degrees and you'll be all set.

I think you could mold your own ceramic guides, with a w copper wire buried in the center.   Each wire from each guide could run through a small hole drilled in the blank, and back to the handle where you can have a double A battery buried in the cork handle.

    There.  Design problem solved.

    Give me some money
