  1. You guys talking about the Blanche and Round near Kirkland Lake? I really miss it up there. My father grew up in Chaput Hughes and I spent most of my summer vacations in that area for about 20 years. Fished all around there. Put thousands of miles on the 12ft aluminum car topper on all of the lakes and rivers. Nice part of the world. Since my grandmother passed a few years ago I haven't been back.
  2. I have both Plasma (Pioneer 720p) and LCD (Vizio 1080p). The Plasma is far nicer. I have a friend with the Sony Bravias (one 720 and one 1080p) and they are nice, but I think the Plasma is a nicer screen. LCD's have a slight delay I find. If you watch a hockey game I find I lose the puck on a slap shot on LSD (even faster ones) and that doesn't happen with the plasma. Some people cant see the difference. I think the Sharp is a nice LCD
  3. About 10 years ago I started and ended a week long canoe trip out of Red Pine.. They drove us and our canoes south past Chapleau to Biscotasing and we canoed back up through to Ivanoe. Great trip with unbelievable fishing in most of the lakes and rivers through there. If I recall Ivanoe was a really good lake with lots of varied features, deep areas, rocky areas and weedy areas. At the South end there is a long narrow bay that ends at a waterfall and rapids where the river comes it. Looked dandy for spring walleye. Really nice. I didnt fish much there because it was the end of the trip and I had enough fishing for the 7 days and just wanted a beer (or two) and a shower at Red Pine. Nice people there if I recall.

  5. I got my first ticket in over 20 years in Bradford on hyw 88 last April after coming out from the Tims on 88. They had just dropped the limit to 50 from 80 between Bradford and 400 and an OPP nailed me at 85. I did not see the sign (actually was blocked by a construction sign) and I have driven that stretch off an on for 10 years when it was 80. I asked him how long has it been 50km and he told me it was as long as he could remember. (I wasn't going to call him a liar) I asked a local about 15 min later and they said it was changed about 2 weeks earlier. I couldnt believe he did not cut me some slack. 4pts and $200 plus. I am taking it to trial on principle. Not every officer has common sense.
  6. If you mean Cadorette, they were made in Quebec up to about 1990 then were merged with Thundercraft and Doral. Not a bad boat, but low end.
  7. Heres a few others from the summer
  8. I have had several since they first came out. Great tool for business where time is money. Nice to be able to keep things moving whereever you are and not worry about "dialing in" at the end of a long day to check what emails came in. Bad for the personal life since once everyone has them, the emails run 24/7 since everyone has a different work schedule. You need to have personal discepline to not constantly check and respond to email on personal time. I wish there was a way to turn off the email and leave the phone on. The reception on the phone (8700r model) is great compared to my cell and previous BBs. I think its the best of the current options for stong business communication and integration with MS Outlook.
  9. You need to link to your GPS.
  10. DSC works with your GPS and transmitts both your radio ID (meaning your ID) and your exact GPS location when you press the switch and transmit. That way the CC or other boaters will be able to pin point your location. Almost all new fixed mount VHF's have it now so it is really not much extra cost. If you see a fixed mount marine VHF without it, it is probably an old model.
  11. I think you should get both. The fixed mount for distance and the HH for backup and in case the boat goes down. Most HH are waterproof to a few metres so if you go in, you can still use it. Your fixed will be attached to the boat and gone. I also was out on Lake O one time on a Sunday pm in early June. Went out about 2 miles and engine died. Two kids and me bobbing around on lake O. No other boats in sight. Thats when I found out my fixed mount antennae was not connected right and I could hear but not transmit. Eventually I got the engine started (debris in the carb float needle). Ship happens, have a spare. I got a good deal on a HH at the spring fishing show from RadioWorld two years ago. Its a Uniden. Safety aside. its great when I leave my wife on the boat at anchor and take the dinghy out for some bay fishing so we can keep in touch using an off channel (not 16). Just my $0.02.
