  1. Thanks Dano for the kind comments... but folks like you and the "little green leafy thing" make it easy to be lodge operators!
  2. thanks for the beans!
  3. I am proud to annouce that Doug with a big "G" won the TV - at last nite's dinner (thank you Joe and Mule!) to raise funds for our walleye stocking efforts. Congrats DougG... its in the back of DEG's van as we speak .... heading south.. special delivery! Thankyou to everyone who generously donated to our walleye stocking program. Our program can only continue with the help of our volunteers who give a couple hours of their time each Sunday afternoon (and sometimes a few extra days here and there) and funding, which is mostly provided by private donations and from local groups such as the Noelville Rod and Gun Club.. much appreciated. Unfortunately, this year, no funds were available from the MNR out of North Bay. In 2006, our group (Vacation Land 64 Walleye Hatchery and the South Shore Associatin) suscessfully released 78,000 fingerings into Lake Nipissing. In additon we are experimenting with raising fall fingerlings (up to 7-inches) in the hope that we can tag these larger fall fish in order to gain valuable information in coming years as these fish mature and are recaptured by anglers.
  4. Hi ya... Canadave... glad to see you're still out there... and still have the same old wit....! looking forward to seeing all the boys and girls.. in a few days... not sure that leslie and I are ready for this... but what the heck!... its always fun... the fishing has been very good this spring... should be no problem having a fish fry... just have to clean them damn bones out of the pike! the capt.

  6. Just read all these posts... God, you guys make me nervous!.... a lot of funny talk going on....!!! I am happy to report that, as the start of fishing here on May 19, the walleyes have been on a good bite and so the pike... some really nice chunky pike have been caught the last few days... some pike 30+" and thick all the way through.... only last evening a crew came in with four walleyes, lined up on the dock, all 25-inches+... that's an unusal event here as our fish are generally much smaller... and they're hitting on worms already... erie-dearies... Just a note to help us out... when you arrive in camp.. please come up and register so we know who's all here (helps when the wife calls looking for the key to the car)..... Also: we have a 4-bdrm cottage, sitting empty, that can sleep up to eight. If anyone is interested in bunking in with new (OFC) friends... give me a call.... Please call ahead or email, if you are interested in evening meals to help us plan our food inventory... Leslie and I are looking forward to seeing everyone once again (and it sounds like there'll be a few new faces too)............ its going to be fun! the capt
  7. I just did a tour, out in front and found only 4-5 inches of ice and lots of bad slush! So it's not good... be careful if you are traveling this end of the lake. There are some huts out already... but I would not advise putting out huts.... there just isn't enough ice, at least not in this particular area. I understand there may be more ice over Calander Bay area?.... but only rumours I have heard... stay safe............ the capt.
  8. Best I've even seen was many years ago... just a kid on Nipissing, guiding a fishing party. See this rope hangin' from a tree branch, straight on down into the water... As we was trolling for pike, I just headed over close by to that rope, see what it was doing there... Pulled up along side and stopped the engine.... and pulled up on the rop.. Tied to the end was an unbroken, chillin' bottle of rye... Now I never did believe in drinking while out on the water... but we made an exception this one time... I cranked the lid on that new bottle and took a big ole swig on that juice.... then passed her on up the boat... We all had a good swig... but not being greedy, left some for the folk who put her there.... gently lowered the not so full bottle back into the water... then started up the motor and went on our way.... true story... btw... welcome to the board Peter Pan...........
  9. thanks for the comments all.. Phunter the pond is close to our lodge... within a mile or so.... back in the bush, on private property. The Gentleman who owns the property has been kind enough (for the last 17 years!) to allow us access and use of his land. btw... ice inside the docks this morning... time to pull the last boat! Had the opportunity to head out with two gentlemen yesterday for 2 hours of musky fishing (thanks for the invite!). Both members of Muskies Can. in Sudbury. Ice freezing up the rods!... Saw no fish, although earlier in day day they landed a 40+ fish. That'll be the last soft water fish trip here for this year.. for me anyway.
  10. Hello folks on the new board. First post here. On Wednesday we drained the pond for the second time this summer to evaluate our 2nd ever fall fingerling experiment. We successfully released 122 fall fingerlings, ranging in size from 5-7 inches! On site to witness the event were representatives from the MNR and Nipissing First Nations. Earlier this past July we released 78,000 2" fingerlings into the West Arm area of Lake Nipissing. A few of these were returned to the pond to see if we could raise them through the rest of the summer. Live minnows were invited in from the water supply (a creek feeding several beaver ponds) to be used as food source. Evidently (some say) the raising of fall walleye fingerings can be very difficult, so we are please of our successful repeat. The first fall fingerlings were released in 2004. We are now studying (with the help of the MNR) the feasibility of marking these fall fish in order to track them after their release. The Hwy.64 Fish Hatchery has been raising spring walleye fingerlings on the West Arm of Lake Nipissing for some 17 years now. Recently we have partnered with the South Shore Walleye Hatchery in order to make better use of our resources. Our group is made up of volunteers and financed through private donations, with some financial and technical support from the MNR. But since most of our financial support is through private donations: (unabashed grovelling here): All donations greatly appreciated! If you wish to help out or learn more about our efforts feel free to email me at: [email protected] Best Regards, the capt
