  1. Man some of you can be harsh. You can't possibly blame Obama for getting extended media coverage from US news sources like CNN.

Personally I feel there is no better candidate to represent the world's superpower than Obama. He's by far the best speaker I've ever heard infront of a mic and his speeches bring the most uplifting words time after time. He's someone people in a tough time will actually listen to.

  2. Good job, everyone should do this if they see someone in trouble. I haven't seen any this year but I helped a woman out of a snow bank last winter going around a 90 degree ice corner during a whiteout. The lady had a baby in the backseat, so it felt good to help her out.

  3. today was the day to get Pikeie back to school so we hit the road early and enjoyed the bright moonlight.

Lots of wildlife on the way up ..deer ..moose ..coyote

    unfortunatly all dead !

The coyote was pretty funny .It had been dead long enough to frreeze solid and someone stuck it on the snow bank along hwy 17 .sure slowed down traffic !

Luckily weather was on our side and the drive back went a smooth as the trip up.

Soo.. can you explain this a little more. You dropped Pikeie back to school? Is that your son, college? How long did the trip last?

    Cheers

  4. I saw this many times and was, in part, responsible for similar behaviour. Builders will not tolerate trades badmouthing the paycheque. They pull them off jobs or move them to another job. Then I, as the super, would have to come up with the smokescreen, etc..., to keep the homeowner quiet. You really can't tell the customer that your boss is an :asshat:. It's just the way business works.

I've also let a homeowner stew for 6 months waiting to get his deficiency list work done. We were prompt with his neighbours. Thats what you get when you publicly badmouth the builder's character. You don't get service when you call someone a liar, cheat, scumbag, etc...

Unfortunately there are bad eggs on both sides of the fence.

But just because the tradesman says some HONESTY and gets canned from the job, the homeowner shouldn't have to be treated like scum for his faults? We didn't build the warped wall, yet we shovelled out $300,000 for the house. I never badmouthed them, I only got upset after they left the job and left my bathroom in a complete mess for months. Worst service ever.

I've learned not to be bossed by the builders and I'm just happy I have no more fixes that I need them for, at least none that I'm bringing up.

  5. I totally agree that carpenters need to be licensed and the builders need some brains - Here's my story I have to get off my chest incase anyone is in the market for buying a new home. Buyer Beware:

I bought my new subdivision house in 2007 (2050 sq ft, 4br, 2.5bath). Get this, the upstairs main bathroom's exterior wall that was tiled over for the bathub was totally warped. Somehow I did not notice this when I bought the house, but regardless it's something that had to be fixed obviously.

The builder sends over their repair guy to assess the situation. The guy was awesome, he knew what he was doing and told me flat out the builder doesn't seem to do anything by code. He didn't realize the job would be that big, so he had to book a time to come back and fix it. Well, I guess word got around that he was spreading bad things about the builder and they fired him. (He later came door to door signing a petition about it).

Anyway, after a week or two of complaining they sent over another guy who comes in and rips apart the wall. The 2x4 they had in there was literrally a scrap piece of wood that had chissle marks all over it, and completely warped. It was ridiculous, something that came from the scrap pile.

After ripping up the wall he leaves and said he'd finish tomorrow as he had another job to go to (I never bothered him once during his work, infact I gave him coffee). What happens? He freaking "quit the job" so the builder says. They give me a bunch crap that they don't have another guy and are interviewing people to replace him. They said they would call me when they do to finish the job. I called and called and went to their office every couple days. It took them 4 months.. yes 4 MONTHS before they sent a guy over to fix the thing. The bathroom was practically useless for that time period. The only reason why they sent someone is because I had called Tarion and complained (note to all, Tarion is your only friend).

So wouldn't you know it, they sent over THE SAME GUY who started the job to finish it. Yes, he didn't quit at all, they used that as an excuse to hold off paying a few extra bucks to finish the house. They put him back on building and I could tell the guy felt genuinely bad about the whole situation because there was nothing he could do about it.

I finally got a flat, newly tiled wall, that I would've gladly paid a licensed contractor instead to finish the job. Too bad they keep throwing words around like "Doing so will void your warrenty". Builders are scammers and don't care at all about you after they got your $.

If I ever move, a custom house is in order.

  6. Fishin' Canada crew are at Kesagami and Pete is fishin' for pike with Dave from the board. Global channels in Alberta right now if you have time shifting, should be on again tomorrow morning.

Hehe was watching some of that this morning, I told my wife I think I should book a trip to Kesagami this year.

  7. You have been nicely conditioned.

"Ya, technically I'm still getting raped, but it could be much worse, so I'm happy. Hell, I'm actually saving money!"

No insult to you, because that's the way most of us think now after the ridiculous gas prices of last summer. They figure we should be happy with gas prices so low and just take it in the rectum.

Yep yep... but the bottom line is there is nothing we can do unless we make changes in our own transportation; such as purchase a hybrid, ride a bike, car pool, take public transportation, etc. We have no control of how much money gas is going to cost (Aside from perhaps the tips above) so why stress about it so much? Set a budget and live with it.

I set my budget at $50/fillup as I can afford that. Week to week prices change and I don't think people need to have a fit over a 10 cent hike.

If people want to cry, they should whine about about paying $2+/litre for milk.

  8. It was 0.78 here this morning.

Over the past few years I've budgeted about $50/fillup (50 litres), so I always compare the price to $1/litre. If it's 0.80 than it'll cost me about $40 to fill up 50 litres, compared to $50 @ $1/litre. So I like to imagine I'm saving $10/fillup. At 0.70 I was saving $15/fillup according to my budget.

I'm so sick of hearing gas price talk that I just say anything under $1 and I'm happy.

  9. Hello,

Well I don't post a lot, but some of you might recall that I just started fishing this past summer and I'm literally having my first taste of fishing withdraws :wallbash:

I live in Barrie and I'm desperatly wanting to give ice fishing a go, but I know literally nothing about what to look for in regards to ice safety such as pressure cracks, how thick ice needs to be, clothing, etc. So I think I'd best off renting a hut. It would also allow me to get some local advice and would encourage my buddy to tag along knowing that we'd be protected from the wind. Are there hut rentals in the barrie area? Any good ones or anything I should look for? How much do they cost? I figure this is the better route instead of just buying a shelter for now to see how I like it.

I know I should invest in a float suit and I also need to get some gear. I would only be targetting perch to start (for some dinner) so I assume just a light rod setup, some jigs, augar bit, is pretty much all I'd need.

If someone either cares to write up some basic advice or link to me a good place to read up it'd be much appreciated. I fished anywhere from 1-3 times a week from July through the fall but suddenly calling it quits for 2 months is driving me nuts lol

    Thanks,

    Gov

  10. Canada vs Sweden is my rivalry, the one I never forget and love to watch.

It was 1990, I was only 7 years old playing in a bowling tournament up in Barrie (where I now live). Canada vs Sweden was playing that day, it was 4-4 after OT and it went to a shootout. The entire bowling tournament paused during this time and everyone huddled around a small TV in the top corner next to the bar. Loud cheers when we scored and boos when we didn't. Sweden won the shootout and won the game 5-4.

It made the rest of that day very depressing.

Check out January 3rd. It's the first day I ever watched this tournament and it's the day I got hooked on junior hockey at a young age. Canada vs Sweden is where it's at for me, can't wait for tomorrow.

Also, about a month later we lost to Sweden again this time at the world championships and again in a shootout. Forsberg put on a sick move to win the gold that year. Go Canada Go

  11. Those players were so nervous and it showed. They were afraid and wern't confident. They didn't play well but managed the win nonetheless.

I freaking hate shootouts, what a horrible way to end one of the craziest games in this tournaments history. That overtime had me on edge the entire period, I loved every second of it and then suddenly felt 'meh' after winning in the shootout on a whopping 2 shots. I feel terrible for the russian players, it's not the way a classic game should end.

Their performance was definitely not gold worthy imo last night, they must step it up and get shots on net from the D on the power play. I think they went 1-9 on the powerplay, if they play like that tomorrow Sweden will destroy them. Lets hope they BRING IT tomorrow and take down them down as they did in exhibition play (4-2).

Sweden has only allowed 6 goals all tournament (Including yesterdays 5-3 win), they got the best GAA in the tourny. Canada has to get their offense rolling and use their depth and not 2 lines like yesterday. Wasn't the best coaching from Quinn that's for sure.

  12. There is rapala tournament fishing and rapala fishing frenzy for wii.

Don't let the artwork on the fishing frenzy box fool you, I own the game and it's much better than the tournament fishing one.

The controls take some time to get use to, casting isn't quite as simple as just toss it out there as it took me about an hour to get the real hang of it.

I'd recommend it but only for someone who really really wants a fishing game.

  13. Les has a crew, but they are far away like 1-5km away at a camp. He has satellite phone to call in case of emergencies. That still impressive imo and I feel like I learn something while watching his shows. They might not be as exciting as man vs wild (Which is just hollywood) but they are addicting to watch for some reason.
