YOu caught fish, had fun, and got a few meals. What more could one want. Sounds like a perfect day.

MMMMMMMMMmmmmmm! Looks awesome and glad you had a great day on the ice!
Not sure of your beverage choice, but to each their own!! I think my choice would have been something frosty with suds!
Cheers,
EL
Later in the day it would be beer. For brekkie its always a braced cuppamud

Nothing like a little puppy excitement. We had one dog that would get so excited over new visitors that they got a baptizin

Had been out on Cooks Bay on Sunday with a friend. What a hoot. With the exception of some idiot busting the ice with his wheels, we had a stellar day.
It was a non stop bite from sunup to sundown. Lots of dinks with a 1 to 5 ratio for keepers. Man the keepers are getting fat.
Too much action for 2 lines, besides the dead stick produced nothing.
Rattle jigs were the dinner bell. Tipped with an Arkansas minnow it was deadly. Come late afternoon, the perch started to get finicky so I started alternating to different presentations of teardrops with Berkely maggots or salties, then back to a buckshot.
Had one bruiser of a pike cruise past the mouth of my hole, not interested in my wee offerings. There were some herring as well. One came up the hole to visit, and was sent back. I only took one pic while on the ice, after that the camera kinda got buried in the gear.
No problem bringing home a few quality meals.
For those complaining about the lack of dinner plate shots lately, I present the breakfast of champions
Home fries, a mess of perch, and a corn fritter. All washed down with a steaming hot mug of coffee and brandy

And people wonder why the rates for us everyday, law abiding folk keep going up.
It may be wishful thinking, but I hope the judge crucifies him.

With how high my car insurance is I doubt I'd have the stones to take a risk of my car on the ice regardless how thick it is. I'll just deal with the long walk.
Plus I drive a hyundai Elentra.
A lot of people are out there with no insurance these days. Regular dodge is to pay 2 months up front, get your plate renewed, then cancel the policy. They finally caught my neighbour last month, after he had been at it a couple of years. A big reason for many hit and run accidents.

I'm still wonderin about this
I'm not a fan of our PM--but if i was invited--I'd go.
I wouldn't waste the effort to " pass wind in his general direction", let alone go near him.
As for Thomas, he made a conscious choice and did what few are willing to do any more. Right or wrong, he acted on his principles.

I'd rather go to McD's or CountryStyle.

In the close confines of a portable hut, shorter is better. I do notice that my hook set needs to be more drastic with the short rod.

Yesterday, we had a great day on the ice. Got out and walked 1 1/2km to our spot. On the way back we find our exit buggered. Some dumb twit tried to drive out and busted up the ice 20' out from the access. There is nowheres near enough ice for cars and trucks.
Play it safe guys.

Looks like a great day out.

No English dictionary has been able to explain the difference between the two words 'complete' and 'finished' in a way that's so easy to understand:
Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE & FINISHED but, there is an explanation, as told by a Newfoundlander!!!!!!
When you marry the right one, you are COMPLETE....
And when you marry the wrong one, you are FINISHED.....
And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are ...
COMPLETELY FINISHED !!!
End of story

I was out on the opposite shore having a stellar day. Way too many dinks, but still managed a decent bag.
That wind was brutal. Was glad to be in a hut.

That's actually an excellent idea Terry! I volunteer myself as a taste tester... you know, just to make sure all the recipes are good!
I know who's kitchen you'd like to visit.

With burbot we make a Finnisch fish soup - delicious
Nothing like a thick creamy and rich pot of kala mojakka simmering on the stove.
As for using white fleshed fish for Gravlax, you would not get the same result. They do not have anything near the oil content in the flesh.

You are having more luck than us folks down in the banana belt. Well done.

Looks like a great time for you and the better half.
I'm jealous!!!

Just outta curiosity, I snelled a hook the other night with 8lbs Nanofil.
I put the hook in a vice, and tied a palomar knot to split ring, then to a digital scale (I know, far from scientific). It broke at 9lbs give or take on the snelled end. Actually, it didn't even break the line, just slipped the knot. I was pretty surprised
The line snelled easily but obviously, the line is far too limp to actually use in a crawler harness.
You might be better off tying a Palomar with a double twist

Because water colour around Southern Ontario can be so dramatically different I tie numerous colour patterns with no preference. For targetting pike I go with willow leaf, but I have found, when drifting a harness, it does not matter what the target may be, everything will pick it up.
-
Been making, and selling, harnesses past 6-7 years now. I buy all the components through Luremaking.com. Mine are just a tad different.

Kelvin, I read this with the deepest regret and sadness. I can imagine no greater loss. My deepest and heartfelt condolences.

I'm sure I can oblige you, Vince.

I can't agree more.... your video not only is entertaining but also very educational....that was something that years ago the In-Fishermen shows were famous for....now almost all shows on TV bore me with their product pushing bull....Keep up the nice work...
On a different note I REALLY enjoy smoked whitefish and consider them the BEST that can be had....however, I have heard that they are a great baking fish, although I never had them this way....I would like to hear how you guys cook them other then smoking as I always considered them a very oily fish that made them great for smoking.
Baked whitefish is really quite simple. Scaled and gutted fish with a belly slit. We love stuffing that mixes dried bread chunks, crab/ shrimp, a diced onion and melted butter . A spice mix of salt, pepper, sage and savory. Blend it and fill the cavity, then sew it up. Rub a little butter, salt and lemon juice on the body, and wrap in tinfoil.
