Going to see Deep Purple tonight...
I am green with envy. Would love to hear this live one more time.

I feel so sorry for the family.

As already mentioned, the shows have lost a lot of their lustre. Many of the regular tackle shops stopped going. They now have their own in house spring sales.
For your stated wants, the spring fishing show in Mississauga is the better bet.
The old Sportsman Show used to be really something. Red Fisher had his cabin set up. LeBarons took up the whole east wall of the one building. The dog show used to be huge. You did not have 1/2 a dozen sock vendors and first aid suppliers.

Great job Bruce.
Was there enough ice where you were and how is the ice down to the spot we catch those smelt each year? I'll be suprised if ice is good but who knows....maybe we should go get some crappie instead of smelt this winter?;-) Jordan was asking me about the smelt the other day so I though I should ask you....
Cheers,
Ice Fisherman
The ice I fished was 1/2" thick. There is no ice at the smelt hole so far.

Well, I had an afternoon to kill. Tried to convince the son to join me but he wimped out. Went down to the wall and broke up the ice enough to put a line out in 3-4 ft of water. First fish was in 5 minutes.
There were a few of these
and some of these
and a massive school of these
Caught well over 50 and the smallest were 8". Kept enough for 2 meals. It were a very busy 3 hours.

Anybody know anything about generating hydroelectricity if you had falling water??
One phrase. MNR and Crown rights

Picking up the shirt at the event sounds good.

Until relocating 2 years ago, our home of 20 years relied on wood heat. I could not find an economical hydro alternative for our location that was also legal.

Finakky got to ice fish down here in Niagara yesterday. Albeit, I was punching a hole through 1/2" of ice from a shore ledge

Warm winters like this happen. In the early 80's we had a few wimp winters. No snow til February, very little safe ice, 1/2 the HCSA trails were closed. A Minden dogsled derby, or 2, that trucked snow in from Quebec. 65F on XMas 83 in the Sault,..... I also remember freak snowstorms in May. Most recent was 2 years back in Orillia.
Extremes happen, what is different is the severity and extended time frames.

My sweetheart,

Started a thread last week with minimal response.

Dip them in a little clarified garlic butter, and a slice of good crumbly bread and you got it made.

Having done a lot of fishing the past week, the body's a little tired. The larder is also looking a little bare. So took some time to do some very necessary bread making. The oatmeal loaves will be great with a thick bowl of soup or stew.
Livin is good.

All I can say Buck, the hut operators are out. Don't go on weekends, to may people. There catching lots of dinks. There was a crack to step over at shore, but not a problem. Mite want to try Virgina beach or Bolster for bigger Perch.
Just always be careful.
Bolster was dead last weekend.

You are talking about plants right????
There'a a distinct difference tween sowing seed and sowing wild oats
-
We had a couple of years like this some 20 years back, with only 4 weeks of an actual winter. Animals coming out of hibernation before time and before food was available. I was sowing seeds in February with results in early March.

Looks like Saturday was the day. Well done.

Regular moderate activity is a big plus. Cold and damp can make life plain miserable. I've had mild arthritis in the hands for decades, and in the hips due to my spinal disorder. Nothing I have not been able to manage thus far.
My Day on the Ice

You know something Mercman. First time out, every year, I am a little tentative and hesitant on the ice. That kind of caution is a good thing. Reduces the likelihood of swimmin with the fishes.
Looks like a good outing, and you had fun.
