turn off the oil pipeline tap, build our own refineries, stop softwood lumber exports , let them denude their own forests because im sick of paying 5 bucks for a 2x4 stud while the same stick from the same company in canada ,in the usa , costs 1.00.

time to take the gloves off and use our natural resources for our advantage, stop giving them away

Well said.  Time to start producing from our own resources.

Yea your garlic looks at least two weeks ahead of mine, but I would expect that seeing as where you are compared to me in Lanark. I'm curious though as to what benefit you get from growing them in a greenhouse apart from an earlier start? Do they also mature earlier or do you get them bigger from a longer season.

    Cheers

Actually, there is no cover on the hoop house used for the garlic.  I know some farms that do plant a small covered crop to get a 2 week head start on the competition. We do leave the side walls to keep the wind down and the critters out.

  3. If you are in the area of Bobcaygeon, I'm at the fairgrounds for the weekend as ther is a fishing trade show tied in with the tournament. Hope to meet some more OFCers while there. Stop by and say helloooo.

    Dan.

Guess I'll have to make a point of stopping by enroute to Windsor or Chatham.  Don't worry Dan, you'll be fishing with the wee one sooner than you think.

I predate the popular " Duck "wines by a year or two, the favourite panty remover in my day was Mateus sparkling rosy ,  more class than a duck wine if you ask me.

Mateus and Mogan David were my Mother's fave's back in the early 70's.

Yeah I know we have had snow in May before...BUT... this is  a little outside what I have ever seen this time of year. I don't think I have ever had to actually shovel snow this late in the year.  Generally this time of year the snow melts as soon as it falls or whatever  actually covers the ground isn't enough to bother getting the shovel out for. I'm chomping at the bit to get the veggie garden going and my fig trees out of the cold cellar and into the yard, but mother nature is not doing her part:angry:

Edit to add. Thx again for the garlic cloves you gave me last fall Bruce. That and my Rhubarb are the only things I have going so far. Both are poking out of the ground looking for the sun.

We've actually been through this before back in the late 60's. Late April, beginning of May, Mom was in Sudbury and we were being watched by Gram. The ice started Friday into the next morning, followed by a foot or more of snow. Schools were closed for 3 days, and we could not go outside because the power lines in front of the house were down and buried in the ice and snow.  After that came the flooded ditches with the melt.

I think Ontario was late to the party because of the long time Brewers Retail arrangement with the major breweries that restricted what could be done.  Its only relatively recently that they allowed beer to be sold in the LCBO too.  I think the Brewers Retain arrangement provided them exclusivity in some way.

I am not sure if they still do it, but in Alberta you could buy beer at a bar.  Its called “off-licence” sales.  That just seemed weird to me for some reason, but I guess since they have the process for checking for underage or impaired buyers in the bar, why not.

LCBO and Brewers were monopolies created by the province. LCBO was controlled by the province, Brewers was owned and operated by the big 3:  Molsons, Labatts, Carling-O'Keefe. Up until the late 70's the only brands in an LCBO were foreign, and Brewers only sold their own big 3 labels. The first cracks in the wall were the introduction of Brador as a strong beer, and Miller as the first non stubby non Canuck beer.
