  1. Finally had someone pick up the phone - almost scared the crap outta me! Guy just answered the phone and said hello, for a second I thought I had the wrong number. Very, very strange system they have. The guy I talked to was named Dino. I was scared to say I need to call back and proceed to calmly explain their system is horrible. He gave me his direct extension, which is 226, so at least I can rest assured I can talk to a human at some point.

The price to upgrade my unit to a HDS5X (sonar only, no GPS) is $440. They don't have an upgrade to a GPS enabled unit for a replacement for mine, so it's the HDS5X or nothing.

Just debating if I want to spend that for a sonar only. It would be an easy swap as the transducer and power cable are the same.

Thanks again for the numbers golks.

  2. Thanks to everyone for providing info on numbers to call.

It seems they all lead to the same place - I end up on hold for about 7 minutes, then I am asked to leave a voice mail which is never returned.

I think I am done with Lowrance. This system of leaving a voicemail is horrible. I'd rather wait on hold for two hours and finally be able to talk to someone.

This has just been far too frustrating.

I'm wasting a day off to deal with this - rather be fishing.....

Anyone have a specific extension number of someone in Mississauga?

  3. I was under the impression, back in 2007 when trying to get network parts for my new units, that Lowrance Canada was totally shut down and there was nothing other than the repair facility left. :dunno:

Terry has been there.... do you have contact info Terry??

I "think" they still have a location in Canada. I know the number we call here in Canada is different than in the States. At one point I had a contact I was dealing with about a separate issue - soon as they found out I was in Canada, they pawned me off.

Had great service up to that point.

  4. Wondering if anyone has a contact at Lowrance Canada they can provide me with via PM.

I have made 4 calls to the 1-800 nummber and have sent 6-8 e-mails with zero response so far. The thing with the 1-800 number is they make you wait about 5 minutes then you have to leave a message to which no one apparently responds.

Fairly easy question - I have a finder that I know is pooched. They no longer support it, but offer a replacement HDS unit for a price and all I want to know is what that price is.

Lowrance is very close to losing a previously satisfied customer.....

  5. I sure hope that the two commnets above about this "bogus" war aren't meant to infer the police should let these low-lifes off scot free and do what they please.

Drugs are ILLEGAL and need to stay that way.

The punishments for trafficing and POSSESSION are far too lenient and organized crime has their hand in the distribution of all drugs including cannibis. Marijuana use is not a victimless crime.

These dirtbags need to be stopped and it won't be until people stop using that they do. No demand - no supply. People have very low will power and become addicts, no such thing as a recreational illicit drug user.

The drug wars like those in Mexico aren't that far from home.

For anyone who says alcohol is worse - not even close, sure from the addiction side, but it doesn't create the crime and deaths that illicit drugs do. Making it legal won't help either - just more functioning, low-class, deadbeat losers on the streets for everyone else to support.

Keith Calderwood is a pilar in the community, involved in cops for cancer and a number of other initiatives. He deserved better. Thankfully, he is going to pull through.

The my father that shot him will probably be out on the streets in less than 2-3 years doing the same thing and that is truly bogus.....

    /end rant.

  6. Look for used stuff on Kijiji, here and BFB. There's a brand new Crucial on BFB right now for $100 if you are looking for a bass rod.

Lots of quality stuff out there for decent prices.

I got 2 Compres, a St. Croix and a custom rod with wooden reel seat and butt for a total of $120. New the rods would have been minimum of $500.

March/April or Nov./Dec. is the best time to get them cheap, as we get closer to bass season, prices go up.

  7. You save on taxes

Is this still the case? I thought now with the HST, you had to pay 13% regardless, before HST you saved the 5% GST portion, but now don't you have to pay the entire 13%?

To the OP - pay for a CCC report and offer invoice plus 3% or so. You can't know what kind of deal you are going to get unless you know what the dealer paid. Walk in and tell them what car you want and what you want to pay and be prepared to go to another dealer if they won't work with you.

  8. I know I'm not spending my money on this, but that boat is rated for a 175. Anything less than a 150 would be a problem.

I question the ethics and logic of any boat manufacturer that sells that outfit standard with a 90HP motor. It is in no way adequate and I would even suggest it is dangerous.

I hate to rain on your parade, but I don't like legend boats at all for crap like selling boats underpowered. Cheers to the guys that have them and like them, just wouldn't find me in one.

  9. 1) Don't be in a rush, unless you come across a fantastic deal for a boat you have been waiting to come up.

    2) Be ready to commit to buy a boat that comes up that you do like. Used boats that are priced right move fast.

    3) Don't buy it unless you can get it in the water, preferably for a meaningful run of at least an hour, vary your rpms. Stop to test ALL systems in the boat on the water.

    4) Take it to a marine mechanic to have a compression test and leakdown test done. It will be worth it.

    5) Check the tires and the tralier lights.

    6) Keep a spreadsheet/list of all the like boats that come up and categorize them. When a similar boat comes up, you will know whether it is priced right.

    7) It is not that hard to buy in the states, just do your homework. Prices will be better in the fall. There are some deals here in Canada, but they go fast. Many think their boat is worth way more than you are willing to pay, be ready to walk away and don't get emotionally involved. Your spreadsheet will tell you if your boat is priced right.

  10. Pike don't compete with bass IMO.

What lake is this that you are talking about?

I don't support killing fish based on locals' opinion. However, if all the fish killed are going to be eaten, then I wouldn't see a problem with it. Not eaten with no scientific back-up, there's a problem with that.

  11. I'm contemplating getting the rockers/bumpers and flares done on my ZR2, I dunno if I wanna hear the price though :) I might just Raptor line it instead, lol.

There are some pics out there of guys that've got that done - looks really good, no more paint chips, that's for sure. They can colour match too, but I liked the black.

  12. Mines only a short box and I didn't have to go over the rails. List price was $530, 8 foot bed is $570, over the rails was $40 more I think.

Always room to negotiate - it doesn't hurt to ask.

Really, for the cost a new truck these days - $35,000 plus, it was an easy choice for me. I was NEVER going to go with a drop in again (loud, slippery, vibration rubs the paint off, then trapped moisture causes rust). There are other spray-ins out there, but Line-X came heavily reccommended at F150 Forums, so I did my research and decided it was right for me and my useage.

So, for about double the cost of an average drop-in I went with the Line-X. I also waited until the weather warmed up a bit before getting it done, not that I had read otherwise, to the contrary, but I just felt better and I didn't need to put anything back there so I waited. The dealer was kind enough to spray it then let me pick it up the next day so it was even in a heated shop overnight. Real first class operation IMO.

I also looked at a bed rug, but they were more expensive than the line-x so I quickly ruled those out.

One truck I saw had a diamond plate tool box sprayed and it looked awesome.

Irish - would love to see pics of your truck.....

  13. Can't stand the crap.Makes it to hard to move heavy objects to the front of the box.

Can't push a skid over the axle. It will tear up like paper.

If the liner is installed right. You will not have thees so called problems.

Not sure about the issue with moving stuff to the front of the box. Linex does have a texture to it. I imagine with some lateral force, friction can be overcome.

Never seen an axel "bunp" in a pick-up truck before, maybe in an industrial application?

This stuff will definitely not tear up like paper. You are thinking back to the "olden days" when everyone and their uncle were installing some sort of roll-on box liner with a paint roller in their driveway. Like you said, properly etched and prepped their should be no issues.

Line-x has a lifetime warranty, so I am comfortable with that backing from the manufacturer.

Here is apic of the work - looks great IMO.

  14. They mentioned something about about industrial coverings and they had the floor in the office done in it as well.

The floor really interested me - I think it would be great for a garage floor treatment over the epoxy stuff.

They also do bull and step bars, rocker panels, bumpers - pretty much anything that needs protecting they can protect.

  15. I had the bed of my truck line-x'd today and it looks fantastic. I decided to go with line-x based on research I have done on the 'net.

I had a drop-in liner in my last truck and I hated how loud it was and how it rattled around. Also, the vibrations are said to rub off the paint, the liner traps moisture and causes rust in the long term.

I know it is new, but so far I highly reccomend line-x as a spray in liner.

Cost was about double of a drop in, but IMO is is worth it to avoid the potential issues down the road. It is a small investment for a $40,000 vehicle that I will own for a long time.

I got mine done in Peterborough, but the same guy also owns the Oshawa location.

They also do boat trailers - would be far better than having to sand and repaint every couple of years as trailers age. They also mentioned it can be used on the inside of aluminum boats if required.

If you are thinking about replacing a drop-in or getting your bed sprayed, I would really reccomend the Line-x route.

  16. I started off with an 18 foot '89 Springbok Tournament Pro, fairly rare boat that was aluminum with a high casting deck rated for a 150HP motor. I liked the versatility of the aluminum, but man, did it get blown around the lake. Also, being my first boat, aluminum was way more forgiving when beaching, loading and docking.

When I went to upgrade, I also looked at the V18 and liked what I saw. For me again, it came back to the wind factor.

I ended up with a Triton glass boat and I don't think I'd go back to aluminum unless I started fishing bigger water in more inclement weather. The boat I have now suits my fishing style and that is what is most important.

Tracker also has the avalanche and tundra type boats that are bass-like, aluminum boats. They are expensive up here, but can be had real cheap in the states. You may also be able to find a V18 down there. Check out boattraderonline. With the dollar as strong as it is now, hard not to buy in the states.

  17. In case some have still not heard - Sony's Playstation community database has been hacked. If you've ever subscribed to any Sony services, or done anything with the device involving a credit card, they're saying you should cancel the card and call your bank asap.

    Read more here.

This is actually pretty old news, the PS Network has been down since last Thursday or Friday. Sony is just now confirming what everybody pretty much already knew. This is pretty much inexcusable on their part in this day and age internet security is paramount. There were warning out there that ony was a target and they did nothing about it.

As far as the security threat, I'm not panicing yet. I don't have standard passwords and the CC I used with PS is the only one I use for on-line tranactions. I monitor the activity on it at least every other day. As long as you are vigilent, there should be no reason to rush out and cancel a card unless you have noticed unauthorized transactions. Also, according to your card holder agreement, you are not responsible for fraudulent transactions anyway.

This may be the downfall of Sony Playstation.....it will be very, very hard to retain or drum up new users after this.

Off to log in to check my CC transactions.
