  1. Water snake ... for sure ... very common and extremely aggressive .... not venomous but will shake you up as they wont back down from a chance to chase and bite you especially near waters edge ... you can normally distract them with a fishing rod and rapala :)

  2. Well ... I check in 20 times a day ... because I am LOOKING FOR (hoping for) fishing porn ... so dont stop ....I post when I have something of value to add ... to give something back ... the rest is really more about sharing some comradery amongst likeminded folk who give a hoot about the same things I do ... dont crticize it ... enjoy it ...

  3. Two for me as well ... once was on a golf course when we were kids ... taking cover near a tree (before we knew better) ... heard nothing saw nothing ... but found ourselves about ten feet from our shoes (and the tree) face down in the mud ... dont think we were actually hit but it was a long silence as we picked up our gear and assessed the damage to the tree behind us... not really any time to be afraid ... until afterwards ...

    Second time was more scary ... I was in a boat at Waubaushene ... the rod started buzzin right as the sky turned BLACK ... the storm had come out of nowhere .... I was about a mile from shore and though it wasnt rough, the lightening seemed to be everywhere) ...and I was in a BIG STEEL TUB so I figured I was a goner for sure .. just wanted to be sure they found the body so I dropped the rod, put on the life jacket and lay down as low as I could while I tried to outrun the storm to shore ... probably the wildest 15 minutes I can remember ... of course just about the same time I got to shore the storm had passed ... and I was still alive ... so.. like any self-respecting fishaholic I had a quick bottle of courage and headed back out :)

  4. Water is a molecule of H2O, Hydrogen H2 releases energy when it is reacted with oxygen to form water (H2O). So the problem here is that it is a circular reaction.

    2 H2O + Energy --> 2 H2 + O2

    which then reacts to

    2 H2 + O2 --> 2 H2O + Energy.

    You neither gain nor lose energy through this reaction and that is even if it does occur so that pretty much is theoretical proof that this device is a scam.

    Actually ... your argument is the EXACT reason why this beautifully simple and totally natural model is potentially viable ... the key (in not breaking any of the natural laws) is to remember that your Energy in line one must NOT be the same energy coming out from line two - or you accomplish nothing ... but if you accept there are LOTS of other natural forms of energy (like sunlight) which could be used to STORE potential energy which can later be released (as in line 2) - You have a fast and CLEAN way of creating almost limitless source of manageable power - especially (and this is for you Rich) ... if you notice that the H2O input is exactly the same as the H2O output - in other words you dont 'USE UP' ANY water at all ... how cool is that ... actually the real issue from a practical perspective ... is that the water coming out of the system is so much purer than the water going in .... you keep having to deal with residue on your electrodes

  5. OK ... I cant take it any more .... as a guy who studied chemistry and physics in university I can say the following with some confidence (from personal experience) :

    YES you can get hydrogen gas from water - and electrolysis is a VERY easy way to do this

    YES Hydrogen gas will burn to produce an EXOTHERMIC reaction - in other words it will power things (like engines) - its a little bit explosive ... so you have to manage the burn .... but it does work !

    The 'missing link' is to get the hydrogen out of the water AND to store it in an economically viable way ... what hasnt been discussed in this thread is harnessing things like solar power (to produce the electricity) to convert water to hydrogen gas and Oxygen gas (both sunlight and water are readily available and practically free)... and to store this in a way that can be used to enhance ) or replace the fuels currently in use.

    While I am not sure we have already got commercially available and safe hydrogen fuel cells YET ... it would be VERY niaive to think this won't be accomplished in our lifetime ... the rising cost of and limited availabiity of current fossil fuels are at the point where it now makes SENSE to do so ... just like we used to think it wasnt commercially viable to separate oil from the TAR SANDS .... it wasnt ... THEN .. but it DEFINITELY IS ... NOW ... and billions of dollars are being invested (and made) proving it works ...

    My guess ... less than 10 years ... probably will become an huge safety/legislation issue as people try to store Hydrogen they make themselves from solar power - and transfer this from storage into useable containers (in fuel cells) .... but wow ... come on folks what an exciting issue to be a part of...brace yourself ....

    and here's a little link talking about the subject in some easy to understand terms ... http://www.theodoregray.com/periodictable/...01.1/index.html

    Or ... go fish :)

  6. Mapcreate 6 - Canada Topo maps - AWESOME ... every little brook and pond ... no depths but VERY accurate ... I use it in the mountains in Quebec and it shows all the islands and bays - and the elevations are very helpful too.

    I got mine on the 6 CD version and you can create the maps you want for your handheld and even add your routes and waypoints before uploading to your chip.

  7. Good job Cliff ... and YES Mo ... I love those Johnsons ... matter of Fact I bought one from Cliff a couple years ago .. still purrs like a kitten - BUT ... with the fancy new oil they have I normally err slightly on the less oil side ... closer to 75:1 or even 100:1 ... I find there is less smoke and she starts more easily in the dew ... especially when I am spending MOST of my time just above idle trolling...

  8. If anyone is diving on Sturgeon Lake and finds a seat base, please return it to me as well. About 1 km at 15 degrees north east direction from Big Cliffs dock. :blush::wallbash::wallbash:

    Heh .. I was just gonna say I lost a 50+ musky almost exactly there ... boatside self-release... but mine was ACTUALLY north WEST from Big Cliff's dock ... by my figuring North East would put me somewhere on the highway by Dunsford :) :)

  9. Man. I remember when those came out. A couple of my friends got 'em. They were in my NSHO one of the niftiest cars Detroit ever produced. There've been faster, fancier and prettier cars, but the Z28s were just plain cool. They could be drag raced or road raced almost decently right outa the box without spending an arm and a leg. Of course, I was 23 at the time. They may not make such an impression on me now in my doddering decrepit years. I loved those cars. Some of them came box stock with just about the prettiest sounding exhaust outside of a Ferrari.

    JF

    Yeah ... I havent thought about it for a lot of years ... but I did love that car ... I was about 20 when I bought it ... for $3000 ... I felt like I had bought a house ... you just reminded me about the little stinger exhaust ... it definitely sounded as good as it felt and the throw between first and third was about a quarter inch .. so you needed to give her a little kick off the start just to be sure :)

  10. '69 Camaro Z28, blue with black leather - 350 hp - Borgwarner T10, traction bars and tiny little chrome bumpers ... very high maintenance but a beast on the open road - and it looked almost EXACTLY like this ...

    Now if TJQ could help me with the embed .... theres a cool utube for ya :)

  11. Sorry to hear about your mess-ed day ! Sometimes a warning would go a long way toward better relations ... especially if you actually had a flash in your safety kit ... anyhow to answer the question which Rich and a few others had ...

    I found this on service Canada's website (geesh I can bet big bucks on the fact that the old-tinny-at the cottage has no ownership papers - its at least 50 years old ... the full document is online at http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/sc/boats/index.shtml

    Rich - It would seem that registration is not mandatory as long as your boat was licenced ... and licence is only necessary if you have greater than 10hp ...

    =============

    Registration

    The Canadian Register of Vessels is a title system for the ownership of vessels. It contains information on each vessel, such as ownership and vessel characteristics, i.e., tonnage, construction material, and type. Registration in this register, in addition to providing an official number, also provides each vessel with a unique name. It also confers certain benefits, such as the right to fly the Canadian flag.

    Owners who intend to use the vessel as security for a marine mortgage are required to register their vessel.

    Registration is optional for all pleasure craft, regardless of tonnage and length, as per the Canada Shipping Act.

    New owners of a previously registered vessel who choose to license rather than reregister their boat must provide a transcript of the history of the vessel, obtainable from a Transport Canada registrar, attesting that the vessel has been taken off the Canadian Register of Vessels. The owner must then remove all official markings from the exterior of the vessel and place the pleasure craft licence number on both side of the bow (see Question 16).

    There are costs associated with registering. However, the registration is good for as long as you own the vessel. You must carry registration documents on board the vessel at all times, together with any other ownership documents, to help avoid delays clearing U.S. or Canada customs, or in case of a fine.

    Transport Canada provides this registration service. For frequently asked questions on registration, please visit Transport Canada's Web site.

    What is a pleasure craft?

    A pleasure craft is a vessel that is used for recreation and does not carry passengers. It is a vessel of a prescribed class under the Canada Shipping Act.

    What types of boats need to be licensed?

    A licence is mandatory for all pleasure craft equipped with a motor of 10 horsepower (7.5 kilowatts) or more, including personal watercraft.

    Pleasure craft of all tonnages and lengths may be licensed as per the Canada Shipping Act. Alternatively, pleasure craft owners may choose to register their vessels in the Canadian Register of Vessels.

    I just bought a new boat. How do I license it?

    To license a new or previously unlicensed pleasure craft, you will need the following documents:

    a completed Application for Pleasure Craft Licence;

    proof of ownership of the vessel; and

    a valid piece of personal identification.

    If proof of ownership is not available, you need a declaration under oath stating why you cannot produce the bill of sale or proof of ownership. You may use the sample declaration provided or another similar document, as long as it contains all of the information required.

    You can apply for a Pleasure Craft Licence at any Service Canada Centre. For the location nearest you, visit our Find a Service Canada Centre Near You page or call 1 800 O-Canada.

    You can also apply by mail. If you are applying by mail, include a signed photocopy of your personal identification document. We will return the photocopy to you when we send you your licence.

    For more information about licensing a pleasure craft, visit our How-to page.
