  1. I actually launched in Sibbald Point Provincial Park. I went there in May and they charged me a fee of $11.00 to park and launch my boat. There were two of us in the car at the time. The ramp is concrete and 3 boats can easily be lauched there at once. Lots of parking right at the ramp. You can call them to confirm the fees at Sibbald Point Provincial Park 26465 York Road 18, R.R.#2 Sutton West, Ontario L0E 1R0 905-722-8061 I hope that this helps you out. Bill
  2. Try Sibbald point just 2km up the road. $11.00 to park and lauch. Also Harry's in Keswick, $7 to park and launch. Virginia Beach is around $20.00 to park and launch. The deal that Bonnie Boats cut with the town of Georgina is really bad for non-residents. They get a piece of the parking revenues. The $10.00 you paid is supposed to cover parking in their lot but when it is full, you get stuck with the non-resident parking fee of $30.00. I will launch elsewhere and the Town of Georgina and Bonnie Boats will no longer get any of my cash. Bill
  3. Well, I will not lauch from there and it is only a few more minutes to Sibbald Point Prov. Park which only costs $11.00 to park and launch for the day. A few miles more up at Virginia beach, you can park and launch for $15.00. Good luck to the folks at Bonnie Boats as I thinking of using their lauch to go out whitefishing. I will be going elsewhere now. Bill
  4. Hi Wayne, When I was in court, I was advised that a photocopy was not acceptable as well. It had to be the original. What it comes down to is the luck of the draw and mood of the OPP or other officer who stops you. If he or she takes a photocopy you are in luck but if not, you will be out $300 or have to go to court like I did to try and beat it. The license is free and the bottom line is that if they request it, you have to produce it. I was on my way up to the French River on highway 69 just north of Britt when the cops pull me over and inspected my trailer. They asked for both the trailer license and the vessel license. At least this time, I had both of them with me. A friend of mine was pulled over on the 401 by the OPP and they checked it out as well. It seems that they are cracking down on vessel licenses. I think it may have to do with a large number of boats and/or trailers being stolen. The bottom line is to carry all of your vechile licenses/registrations with you and avoid the hassles of being ticketed. Bill
  5. Hey Clampet, Here is the recipe that we did last week: Cedar-Planked Salmon Ingredients 1 2-pound salmon fillet, skin on 1 cedar plank, soaked in water 20 minutes 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 tablespoons canola oil 1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Preparation Preheat a gas grill to high; adjust to medium low after 15 minutes. (If cooking over charcoal, allow the coals to burn until they are covered with white ash.) Place the salmon skin-side down on the cedar plank. Combine the brown sugar, oil, thyme, and cayenne in a bowl. Spread over the salmon. Place the planked salmon on the grilling grate and cook, with grill covered, about 40 minutes or just until the surface fat begins to turn white. Rainy-Day Method: Preheat oven to 325° F. Prepare the salmon as described above, then roast on the cedar plank for about 25 minutes. 6. I had some cedar planked salmon the other day. The key to ensuring the cedar does not burn is to soak it overnight and to use medium low heat on your barbecue. I find that soaking the plank for a couple of hours is not enough. Bill
  7. Hey Guys, A photocopy or laminated copy is not tecnically acceptable. I had the unfortunate case of being stopped and asked for my vessel license by the OPP. I produced a laminated copy and the cop asked me for the original. I did not have it and was given a ticket for $300.00, so I guess it depends on the cop who stops you. I went to court, explained the circumstances to the judge and explained that that lots of rain gets in the boat and as paper can get wet, I carried a laminated copy. The judge asked me to produce the original which I did and then let me off with the warning that next time I would have to produce the original. So now I always carry the original in the boat in a sealed baggie. It would be nice if the feds would supply a plastic license and then the issue of getting the cheap paper license wet would be avoided. Bill
  8. The launch at Sibbald point is quite nice and only costs $11.00. As well, you can lauch at Bonnie Boats in Jackson Point. Checked it out on Sunday and it looks okay and costs only $10.00. Both of these lauches are close to the whitefishing action. Bill
  9. Lauched from Sibbald Point Prov. park this morning to fish for some whities. Found the pack of boats and anchored for a couple of hours. Fishing was slow and my partner and I did not catch any. The winds and rain picked up around 1:30 and we decided to call it a day. We only saw a couple of whities landed by the other boats during our time on the water. Most of the fish that were caught by the the other boats were taken on a half gold and half silver Williams. We fished with Williams and Meegs jigs with no success. Also while we were the there, the York Region Police boat was out checking licenses and safety equipment. Nice to see them doing their job. Bill
  10. Well I decided to launch from Sibbald Point Prov. Park this morning and I must say I really liked the launch there. It is a nice concrete ramp that can easily accomodate 3 boats launching at the same time and the best part was the cost was only $11.00 which is considerably cheaper than parking and launching at Virginia Beach.
  11. I am interested in finding out what you guys are using for rods and tackle. I usually use a medium action rod with with a meggs jig / Williams spoon / or jigging rap. Anyone have any other tackle suggestions / tips or techniques for Whities? Bill
  12. Well I will try Sibbald Point Prov. park and will let you folks know what the launch is like there. Bill
  13. Heading out fishing for whities tomorrow in the J.P. / Sibbald Point area and was wondering where a good place to park and launch my boat would be located. I was thinking of launching from Sibbald Provincial Park and a friend suggested Bonnie Boats. I am very familiar with the launch in Virginia Beach where I normally go out for perch and its about a 10 to 15 minute run over and so I just wanted to know what the other places are like for launching / parking and the respective costs. Bill
  14. I would also see if the lodge could get you a guide to go down to Georgian Bay. The fishing there is great but the trip though the rapids and scenery of the Bay is the icing on the cake. I fished the bay last weekend and we had a great time. Caught many pike (we were mainly targeting pike), a couple of walleye, some oos bass and a nice musky. The season on the Bay opened May 1 for pike and walleye. The best part of the trip with a guide is the shore lunch. Under no circumstance should you attempt to go down to the Bay without a guide as the final two rapids are very dangerous and difficult to negotiate unless you know them well. Good luck on your trip. Bill
  15. For pike, mepps #5, xraps, spoons, spinnerbaits, Williams and just about anything you have they seen to hit For Walleye, crankbaits, minnows, leeches are what I generally have had success on in the river. For Bass, worms and leeches and most of the lures for pike and walleye catch them as well.
  16. The only camp on the lower French River where you have to take you boat through the "S" curve is the French River Lodge. Be very careful in that area of the French. I was up there last weekend and the water levels are very low exposing a few reefs that I have not seen in many years. If you are taking you own boat, make sure the lodge boat meets you there the first time to take you thought it. Even though I know it, I have clipped my prop there occasionally when the water levels are lower. If you are fishing for pike, my favourite area is Crombie Bay. For walleye, I like the Flat Rapids. Ask the dock guys or Joe Ott and they will generally point you in the right direction where the bite is active. Dawyne usually hangs around the dock area and guides occasionally and is usually very helpfull. Good luck on you trip. Bill
  17. I have it on three computers. The only restriction is that you are limited to 5 sd/mmc chips and you must have the card reader/writer that came with it attached to the computer with the the program in order to write the data to your chip(s). Bill
