Still too late for trout? The water shouldnt be to warm.... what areas should i look to fish? We have considerd that it is peak season for black flies. My friends are crazy and im kinda 'stuck' going. NET SUITS LOL man this might be a crazy trip......

Not sure yet. We will be deciding our location on the fishing conditions. I would ideally like a campsite that I can shore fish from. And with good access to lakes known for good fishing. Does anyone know any or had a good experience at there trip? We ended up at Burnt Island last year if that rings a bell for anyone. Even Sunbeam Lake... Probably the south central of the park we will be heading.

Hey Guys, So im heading out to the good ol Algonquin at the end of May this year . And im going to do the whole canoe..fish..portage thing...I went last year...but didnt catch a dam thing except for some really small smallmouth bass (check the profile). I was a total noob, but ive got alot more knowledge now than I did then. I think it was also because the majority of fish there is trout and i went in the middle of august, and they were prolly real deep. Still a great time. OK. So im heading back this year and im not going to let the same thing happen..Im going prepared! hence the advice thread lol . I Have bought some maps and guides to fishing in Algonquin. Some of the maps have those cool depth and contouring technology for the lakes which will help spot key areas to fish and bomb with lures. And the guide describes the history of the fishing and how to catch I understand Spoons work best for trout...what else can I use? jigs? colours? cranks? ? I have never caught a trout before (im dying to get one) and its the main species there. Does anyone have any advice to help me catch these boys by the bounty? Also i will want to eat a couple, but i do understand there are major bears up there, and i dont really want to gut and filet by my campsite...any tips for avoiding that while still enjoying fresh fish? The books i bought explain that there are Pike and walleye that also exist there, along with the rare Lunge... Has anyone had an experience catching those in Algonquin? Last year we travelled spot to spot each day for 3 days. This year we will pick 1 spot and venture out daily to new lakes to explore and mainly FISH!. Does anyone have any keys spots or lakes? shorefising or rivers? Please share your advice and experiences with and about ALGONQUIN ...everything helps guys.. THANKS pS. I'll have more questions

The Gar will actually strike the nylon and it basically just gets tangled?

dam dude that sucks. at least it was just a deck, and that no real damages were done. I once got off the GO train coming home from school. Went looking for my car amongst the hundreds in the parking lot...not there. NOW that was a crappy feeling. I walked up and down every aisle making sure i wasnt blind... then i just accepted it. Cops found it abandoned, joy riddin and damaged. A- holes

I know im a bit of a newb... what exactly is this walleye spawn? and how can you 'watch' it? the water is that clear/shallow? It is done by the dams and locks? this sounds interesting...can someone fill me in? and while ur at...how the trout 'lifts' work too.. a little much to ask i know.. i should make it a thread...

I can understand why this dude is mad or frustrated. He feels threatened about his spot and that maybe he wont catch his fish anymore or not as many. And man that would kinda annoy me too. But realistically theres nothing you can really do about it. We all want to catch the fish, we all enjoy it, and it hard not to be selfish about a spot ESPECIALLY with rivers. But man u need to just chill.... season opener in 2 weeks and you can literally go wherever u want. the cities are getting bigger, and communication is getting easier. Almost impossible to keep secret creek a secret. Just enjoy fishing, and if u want to be competitive with it, then go tourny it up... I dont have a boat and come fall i try to hit up the dams for walleye late night.. like midnight...and everytime theres about 6 people there. nothing u can really do. I just try out new lures and try to perfect my game to advantage me over them. thats my 2cents

Those snake lure looked amazing among those lilys! Not sure if they would work up here in canada. I think small ones would...my buddy has got some lucky craft frogs... unreal among lilys. You think Bass Pro Shops would have these snakes?

Flatfish lures!? really? I always thought to use SMALL things on trout. Mainly because they get spooked easily..and arent avid strikers/biters. Am i wrong? now regarding flys and smaller lures... i use a reel rod and havent ever really used anything else nor do i know how... but how do u cast such small and light lures without : 1. tangling my reel (happened last night in the dark>Not Cool) 2. getting the lure where u want it and 3. making it look naturaaaal. ?

hey jonnybass. Quite aware of the regulations. Not that new to the game lol. Thanks for the tips Stoty. where abouts are u from in pickering? im altona/sheppard area. Is there other lures i could be using? such as small spinners? or bitsy cranks? So when floater goes down...just set the hook?

Hey Guys. Im new to this site. But I think its awesome. I already seen great pics, read awesome stories, and learned alot of tips. I went trout fishing last evening up a creek. I was on the shore just listening to fish jump everywhere. there was tons of actions making me go crazy! I was using a floater and atlas jarred roe sacks (u can buy em at C-tire, i dont have any exp with real roe, im new to the trout fsihing) I tried the tapered effect with the splitshots. And i wasnt getting anything. I fished for about 45 mins and got nothing. got too dark and had to leave. I am going to go back and adjust my rig setup > less weights and a time more during the day... Does anyone have any tips they can give me? How should my bait be presented to the fish? floating between surface and bottom? or more bottom? Do trout strike? or simply just nibble until the realize its fake? how should my hook be set on the roe sack? what am i looking to do in terms of movement of my bait and casting it? on the fishes nose? sorry for all the questions. Im dying to get my season started.. im dying to catch a fish.. can u help? THANKS!

Steelhead Question: Different fish fighting techniques?
Pachone replied to a topic in General Discussion
whoa whoa whoa...getting the fish on the hook is my problem! bringing it in... havent got there yet with trout :S! LOL -
I use those floats as well. They are also known as phantom floaters. I just started trout fishing myself and Im actually having a slow start but learning quick. Just below the float at the bottom, u will want to put a splitshot so that float points down and doesnt float on its side. Ive also heard about 'tapering' the weights. I can somewhat see it in the picture above. Can someone explain this further? or how to do it and how it works? Also im from toronto and the actual season doesnt open to the end of this month correct? so i technically cannot fish above highway 2? im really confused about this because people are telling me not to fish key spots. Plus does anyone know spots where a beginner can test it out? Plus i just joined this site...think iits GREAT...and this thread has already helped me and backed up some of my knowledge. THANKS GUYS!
