Last minute decision last night when I saw Sailflow changing wind forecast to very low winds for this morning....all the "regular" team mates couldn't make it due to the super short notice so I went alone...haven't done it for a long time....forgot how much fun it is...skipped Oakville's $17 launch and went to Port Credit...FREE is the right price as some one has said.... started about 6:15am...and by 6:20 had the first king in the boat....just short of 22 lbs...not an easy net job with boat control and all but managed it....then got couple smaller ones and fish shut down completely for 3 hours...checked everywhere from 60 fow to 200 fow...finally found a pocket of warmer water in front of the cement plant in 130 fow...picked up few more kings (biggest just under 20Lbs) and a bow and finished by Noon...all spoon bite....40-60 feet down... What a beauty day today...where else but to try lake O. for more action...and action it was....17/21 with 3 large Kings and the rest all Cohos...it sure was Coho central again today...we had to abandon them half way through the morning to get couple Kings which we did.... 130-160 fow, 45-120 feet down, spoons on the riggers, flies on the dipsy, all got us fish...every rod fired number of times...3 double headers... well I was panicking mainly because the kids got too close to the dead mouse and they have been in and out of the cold room where all those dropping were on the shelves multiple times...and as I said I did wipe the dropping two days ago with my bare hands and damped them in the kitchen garbage bin...now I read that hentavirus gets transfered by air...so you can imagine how happy I am with my own past actions...small mouse created big problems so quick read on the web...etc....even spoke to the local region health inspector who confirmed they haven't had any cases in Ontario, and very very few out West...apparently some mice were tested with this virus in Northern Ontario but no humans here ever got it. I asked how best/safest to clean up the cold room now and he suggested HEPA filter respirator...it just happens to be super expensive and not easy to find...then he told me to go and by the best mask I can find and do the bleach and water ( 1:10) sprayed over the surfaces prior to wiping. Kind of after the fact in my case since I've done all that I shouldn't have already Long story short...no one enters the cold room until I figure out how to clean it safely...what a mess....brrrr.... waooo never heard of it....hmmmm now you got me scared as I did wipe out by hands some of the dropping the other day and did move the trap by hand today even my son moved the trap with the mouse hanging in there....we all washed hands after words but you sure got me thinking....just read more on the net about the Hantavirus and it seems all cases have been west so far....but who knows....hmmmm.....got to see how to safely clean the whole cold room now....not to mentioned we all drink juice made from the apples that were on the same shelve where the dropping were....of course all washed and the part the mouse bit removed etc....but.....well well well.... hahaha well the score is even now, it took another night but one of the traps got triggered last night and here is what was in there: The other one was still with the bait in it so I assume it was only one, or the second one got scared...will leave the traps there for a while longer to see what happens though. well unsuccessful first night in the hunt for THE mouse Found one of the two traps on the triggered and on floor under a bag of old cloths with no bait in it...maybe the mouse was caught in it jumped and pulled it under the bag and somehow escaped.... The second one also with no bait but in its place and NOT triggered at all.... Score so far is 2:0 for the mouse in my cold room and it is well fed now.....brrrrrrr..... Not impressed with those traps...just re baited again and if no success again tonight may fix the problem the good old way...i.e. take everything out of the cold room and kill the damn mouse with my own shoe...those Micki Mouse traps (pun intended) are not worth anything... but then what do I expect from $1.59 traps Cheers, Ice Fisherman

Well bought two traps and just set them up with PB and cracker...waiting to see what happens tonight ha ha ha...took 4 more half eaten apples out....took all other food out of the cold room as well...so the mouse will either starve to death of be caught in the trap....either way works for me Thanks for all the expert info Cheers, Ice Fisherman

OK...peanut butter it is...what is a good mouse trap I should buy to make sure it does the job the first time? Well, Signs show I must have a mouse or couple in my basement cold room. Last couple weeks something is chewing on my apples I have stored there since last fall...not many apples left now but when I take the chewed ones out couple days later bammm new ones are chewed....We store apples in the cold room every year and never had a mouse finding them for the past 8 years but this one I guess was more creative....so we know it is a hungry mouse for sure Must have got in through the vent...door to the basement is very well sealed so hope it doesn't escape the cold room and moves to the basement as then problems gets bigger.... So what is the best/quickest way to get rid of this invader? Poison? Trap? Both? Cheers, Ice Fisherman

Simon, I believe I have said that before but just in case here it is again buddy....Any time you come this way and for a day or more let me know and we'll "fix that gap in your great depths experience". You are always welcome on board...and chances are your hands will be tired after a day on lake O. And if this happens to be in August or September...well then you'll still get tired but in 400+ fow Either way count this as your formal invittion ha ha ha. Cheers, Ice Fisherman

The dilemma between Lake Simcoe whities and Lake O. salmon was won by Lake O. mainly because the poor whities reports from Lake Simcoe. So took the kids in tow this afternoon and went for couple hours down the lake....got to love not having to drive (for ever) to the South shore...much nicer when the fish comes to me instead of the other way around ;D Fished 130-150 fow...ended up 9/14...with one huge laker bunch of nice BBQ size Cohos and one 20 Lbs King....missed what must have been a monster after unspooling most of my Power Pro dipsy....oh well it was fun while on line... temps were 53 degrees on top and 43 down 50 feet. riggers got me Cohos 40-50 feet down and the King came 105 feet down on NK MAG Blue/Silver spoon...couple other hits that deep as well...two double headers Most Cohos were in the 45 feet down range or on the dipsys 75' back on #2 with blue fly/flasher, some Cohos came on Monkey Puke NK Mag spoon....again washed the leadcore all day...not a touch...tried anything from 5 to 9 colors out....can't believe I am not getting hits on it...I usually do quite well on it every year....can't figure it out so far.... lots of fun with the kids...they are getting stronger and I can start seeing some real help from them in the boat...even with my huge net : Anyhow...fish is here...and it'll only get better from now on...game is ON.... Started at 6am from Port D. ...we were the third boat out...drove straight to between Weller and the Bar...started in 60 fow...first line in about 6:30am....and before setting the third rod we already had 2 lakers at the boat.....one 21 Lbs and one about half that....lakers were not the target fish for the day though so we quickly moved away and deeper...as soon as we found the bait balls the action started and kept fairly steady throughout the morning...best results were in 140-150 fow 100-125 feet down.....anything bellow 40 feet was a King and all were solid sizes ....and anything above 40 feet was a Coho....no more lakers were caught..... Best lures were the NK Mag size in the following order......Blue/White /Silver (this got us 75% of the fish)....Watermelon ....Monkey Puke....7-8 fish came on the green, the blue and the white fly/flasher combos, those were run off the wire and raid dipsys in the top 40 feet of the column.... Not a bite on the leadcore all day even though we've tried anything from 2 to all 10 colors.... One King came on the Perch color Lyman down 100 feet.... Best speeds were 1.4-1.6 mps at the ball.... Most Kings were in the high teens (17-18 lbs) and the Cohos in the 4-7 lbs perfect BBQ size.... Had number of double headers....there were 4-5 boats in our area....5-6 more close to Wellar in shallow water.... Total for the day was 20/24 ......12 Chinook, 6 Coho and 2 Lake Trout ....Both my guests were quite happy with the action as I let them reel and net most of the fish....I was the main driver for the day (my favorite position with buddies on board;-) All in all a great day out there...water was a bit bumpy in the morning but a glass surface on the return ...
