Good fishin. How do you like those lake o. browns? I used to catch them by the fistful in the winter but never kept since everyone I talked to said the meat looked and felt more like mashed potatoes than flesh.

Thanks for the replies, guys. JOP or Sinker you guys are more than welcome to join us. We won't be too far from you.

If you buy shiners the afternoon before they will be fine the next morning.

For all you speckle-heads out there...
When approaching a new body of water, how do you approach the issue of covering water?
Having done relatively little hardwater speck fishing, I have a hard time deciding how to go about covering water, since I really don't understand how mobile a brookie typically is under the ice. For example, when approaching a promising shoreline, would it be an exercise in futility to make swiss cheese of the shoreline and hole jump, or do they cruise so much that simply setting up holes perpendicular to shore would suffice? Also, do you find they tend to relate deeper, more sudden drops as the winter progresses, as fish like walleye tend to?
I'm going to be trying to tackle a relatively large lake with less-than stellar numbers, but good size, so any pointers would be appreciated.
I will have a flasher.

I think zone 14 has a 6 walleye limit and that might be where the derby was but I'm not really familiar with that area.
As far as I know, there aren't any zones in Ontario with a sport limit of walleye over 4 anymore.

I've been twice before a few years ago, just never with any intentions of making a large purchase. The highlight both years were the vendors and their jerky at the front.

I was under the impression that this show was free....
Do you think Radioworld's booth will make it worth the price of admission for me? I'm looking to buy a flasher, so I figure this will be the place to find the best price, but after gas + admission I'm starting to wonder?

You will catch walleye. Pay attention to the slot and let the big girls go. It gets fished heavy.

Mike, I'll bring you guys out Sunday.

Don't put soft baits in with hard baits and remove hooks from plastics and store them separately. Probably the quickest way to rust out your entire box.

The dreamcatcher was especially awesome.

Going to see Deep Purple tonight...

This guy is a champ! Been watching his videos for ages.

I've never seen the bay as unpredictable for ice as it's been this year. I was on about 10 inches today, but saw open water in places I've NEVER seen open water before. Stick with areas you know are safe.

OV...premium lager! Sez so on the label! lol All I drink! Cheers.
OV has gotta be the best cheap macro lager ever. Love that stuff!

Awesome! Nothing like a feed o' slabs. Wish i could say i've gotten into the jumbo pannies like that this winter.

February is stout season! Just finished up a bottle of Lake of Bays Mocha Porter. Also keep an eye out for Great Lake's Brewery's Red Leaf Ale [red ale similar to Rickards but far better], Black Creek Porter, as well as Creemore's UrBock. All excellent craft-brewed Ontario beer.

Dude, that's a tank! You're right about splake fishing not being the slam-fest that some articles/people would have you believe, but you usually end up in a pretty spot while doing it.

Pigs! Beautiful colours on the lakers in that lake.

I forgot that the LX-3 didn't have the dual beam. Thanks for pointing that out

After a bunch of reading and pricing, I've pretty well decided on the Marcum LX-3 TC as my flasher of choice. After seeing Lota Lota's LX-5 in action at the g2g, I was pretty well sold on Marcum on the spot.
Anyone have any input on these units?

Did you freeze the fish whole, and then clean it? I stopped doing that years ago.
Good to hear it was tasty, at least.

They are excellent dogs. The few that I have met have all been extremely affectionate, perhaps even moreso than most Labs I've met (including my own). Prepare to have your hands full for at least 2 years though, unless you get really lucky and find a calm one.
