You think that 56in muskie is actually still producing eggs? Ehhh, I dunno.. Regardless that's the fish to keep, not the 40incher that's in it's prime. The guy's still an idiot for not having the proper release tools, that's just common sense.
I agree, BUT many inexperienced anglers would have [and have] treated a 40" er in a similar fashion as that 56", hence the importance of education, and I really don't understand why most are reluctant to agree to that. This applies across the board to most any other species of fish.
But let's disregard all empirical evidence in the name of a meal, or even putting a trophy on your wall that will disintegrate within a decade. [ps. I eat as much, if not more fish than most people on this board]

Discount Bait and Tackle at the lights (corner of Hwy 11 bypass and Hwy.63 right in North Bay) has leeches right now. Kiddie corner to the Beer Store.
The place Joey is talking about is Gramps. Awesome store.
Gramps! that's it.

do understand that there is a law against harassing legally fishing fishermen and that seems to be what you are doing, hope you get charged
I am not being arrogant. I was lucky enough to be raised with not only fishing, but catch and release since I was very young, and since I feel it a vital part of securing the future of fisheries that I plan to fish for years to come. I consider it a responsibility to let people know how I feel about the issue. No harassment or vigilance from me, but feel free to report me.

yeah but as I say go after the law, get them to change it and leave the fishermen alone..if the law is changed to stop someone from killing a 54" muskie then we can insult anyone killing them, but if caught with in the law it is none of our business what he does with it
So provincial/national law takes precedent over everything? I disagree strongly, and believe I have every right to be critical of someone who is my eyes is harming fisheries unnecessarily. And yes, I understand the very act of fishing is essentially doing no good to our natural ecosystems, but unnecessarily killing trophy fish for meat, is in most cases a simple case of ignorance, so why not attempt to educate them?

Not sure how far north you're going, but there is a great bait and tackle shop that's just a hop skip and a jump south of Wilson Lake Road on the east side of hwy 11 that has leeches, worms, and minnows. [about 30 km north of Marten River]

Just listened to Guitar Town-Steve Earle.
Cool. I never go long without spinnin' some Earle

It's ridiculous how well white spinnerbaits work on those big largies.
-
Show them where the water is, show them where the forest is and tell them to keep an eye on each other. They'll make their own fun, just like I'm sure you did at that age! Don't make the simple life harder than it needs to be
Yep! Make sure to forget the electronics at home.

You will love your new Yammy! Ridiculously good on gas, they are
-
Awesome! I have always heard that in many lakes the bigger lake trout will consistently be in shallower water than the smaller fish.
-
You certainly have the bug, and I can tell you'll start picking things up faster than most.
Balsam is a great lake, but just about everywhere in S Ontario will tough during a mid-summer hot spell on the busiest long weekend of the year.
Now time to look into trolling motors and GPS'.

Great fish! helluva pond you got there.
-
then why would you post that in someone else's report unreladted to yours and not even on the same body of water????
The OP was inquiring to anyone else who had made it out Monday as to how they did during the 'cold front' conditions. You should've read the post before making such an asinine comment.

Great stuff, but how were you wearing a sweatshirt yesterday?

This is a great idea for a post! Great photos so far but my favourite one so far is the second shot of the sturgeon jumping. Just awesome!

“It's not the Nipissing First Nation gill netters. We're putting in so much money trying to manage the walleye fishery,” said Chief Marianna Couchie.
Give me a break. NFN, MNR, and the OFAH are ALL doing their fair share of finger-pointing, which is absolutely pathetic. There are so many factors that have led to the lakes depletion (read: Nipissing still has lots of walleye) that is absolutely childish to try and point the finger at any one cause.

4x4 atv (smallest you can get away with)...chains if you experience deep snow (rare on simcoe) and you're good to go!
