  1. Hitch lever locked... with a spare hitch ball in the socket.

Get a length of 1" steel shaft and weld a plate on one end bigger than a wheel spoke hole and drill for a lock on the other end. Insert thru from one side to the other through a wheel spoke on each side....so when a wheel turns the bar gets jammed against the springs. Slip a plate on the other side and then a high quality pad lock. Keep it tight in length so it sits inside the wheel pan so it doesn't stand out as visible from the street. If they defeat your hitch lock and get hooked up to it it will make a hell of a racket draggin locked wheels down the street.. .they'll bail on it and you'll find your boat about 4 doors down in the middle of the street.

Yes... I lived in TO at one time ! LOL

Good stuff so far. Irishfield's hidden wheel lock is my favorite....If I could put a car boot on the thing that would be awesome....but the price of a car boot is not so awesome.

  2. Can I get the swing tongue mounted after-market? Or can I buy a trailer with a swing tongue before buying the boat? I don't think it's an option with the dealer.

A swing tongue is not an option? Why?

Everyone seems to be talking length (and a few width) what about midship depth?

A clear deck like the Lund WC-dlx series is nice too...heavier but nice. I would certainly like to be able to rip the bench seats out of my ssv-16 (still waiting to get the boat out never mind the bench seats)

I have a 20ft garage, no swing tongue. I thought it would fit easy. I had to winch the boat way up on the trailer (which means I have to put it back for trailering), take the ball socket off and angle the trailer a bit. all in all not a huge deal but I will want to be fixing the situation.

  3. Two IDENTICAL 12volt batteries HTH... hooked in series and you've got 24volts. If you want to use them for 12V accessories just take the positive off the same + you have going to the trolling motor and get your "Ground" from the joining strap connection between the two batteries for 12Volts.

I am not boat/car battery person but from my recollection of alkaline batteries I remember that having two batteries of the same usage would be important too.

So does that mean it is a good idea to swap the batteries around in the banks every once in a while?

  4. I used to work on video camera boards: fresh water only screwed up ribbon connectors or if the board was submerged with power on. Make sure it is thoroughly dry....a low temp hair dryer would work if you want to make absolutely sure. Just dry it out and start it up.

Home Depot sells Concrobium, its supposed to be non-toxic and is great for mold. Its $10 for a windex sized spray bottle.

    good luck!

  5. OK small fry.

    1) Get the regulations book

    2) Try to figure it out

    3) post: your region, body of water and what you think the answer is. quote page numbers.

    4) a promise....if you do the above someone will let you know if you are right and give the answer if you are wrong

get going, fishing time is a wasting.

PS at 13 you have way more time for this than old working guys

  6. I have just taken the boat out of storage and have her dockside.

I noticed I have a problem with my radio. It does not want to turn on all the time.

If I turn it off and on continuously, eventually it will "catch" and turn on.

Then, if I turn it off it may or may not turn back on again. I then have to go through the whole routine again and eventually it will turn on.

What do you guys think it might be?

What happens when you hit it with a hammer?

  7. After some more research I found that the CTC cover is actually a Stearns Orion.

The BPS one looks a lot like the Stearns Hurricane Polyester Canvas Boat Cover. Can anyone confirm the make?

They seem to be two different styles, one is snug and tight and pulls taught, the other oversized (could be a good thing) and a not as taught.

    On a side note/rant:

CTC is really starting to get on my nerves, why?: The descriptions of their products is very poor. I suspect that this is done purposely because they do not want people to comparison shop. The exact same boat cover is $119 and Dick's and $106 at Amazon (shipped). CTC "regular" price is $250! Both Amazon and Dick's have full descriptions. And why do I have to enter my postal code twice everytime I go to that CTC site? Its been like that for years!

  8. I searched through some other boat cover posts........

one of the other recommended covers was from boatcovers.com but those ones are about $300; they do come with a motor cover though and are a custom fit (does that make my life easier?)

Kevin seems pretty happy....maybe boat covers are not such a big deal and any half decent one would do, I do not have gunwhales so I would have to strap down any cover I buy (right?)

Is it really worth the extra $150? Do people need a motor cover?

So many questions because I do not have a clue.

  9. I have a Eureka $200

My buddy has a CTC special (escape I think)..$50 on sale

    Mine is way more durable.

His is not a strong, sets up faster, lets him stand in it and he puts his queen inflatable in it. I swear it took him 10 minutes to be completely done.

  10. Restoule:

fishing from the dock is OK...I had some great luck with pike there.....with a small boat there is a whole reeded shoreline and drop-off that can be had.

There is also a public boat dock I did OK with, I can't remember which one but it is on the way in.

My time there was short, but it is certain that there were many more spots from shore to be found.

  11. Customer service has gone down-hill! I moved from Windsor to Kingston today and had to get U-Haul. The girl working the counter was incredibly rude, and kept hanging up on the people that were calling. This is not the first bad experience with the U-Haul company and I would never recommend them to anyone! Avoid U-Haul at all costs!!!

U-Haul's secret motto: "you crawl before u haul"

Uhaul is the WORST chain to rent a vehicle from for a moving day:

-They intentionally over-book and leave customers stranded, I have never seen so many mad people in a store at one time!

-$5 online registration means nothing....just means they take your name (and $5).

-Their vehicles have a history of being sub-par

If you worked in a place where customers continually got screwed and where those customers were ticked at you with the rage of a screwed up moving day you would be rude sometimes too. I am certain it is an awful place to work.

  12. Good Luck with the complaint letter.

I had a big issue at the TH in Keswick, where they "ran out of small buns" to make the small sandwiches at 11:54AM!

My wife and I wanted two small combos. They forced me to try and take to large and pay for two large. I said I will take one large and get two drinks (pay extra for the second drink), and get 20 timbits.

The person serving was the supervisor. She got a timbits box, literally threw timpbits in it, and put it on the counter. I opened it and counted, there were only 19. I said that it was short, she grabbed the box, counted them, turned around and grabbed another and threw it in the box, then slammed it down in front of me and said "you can count it again if you like".

I was furious! I fired off a letter to the head office when I got home to complain about the "Bun Scam" and the horrible treatment by this employee, I even had her name. I received a letter back basically saying that they pride themselves on good service and that they would have a talk with the district manager of that branch. Not even a sorry!

That was as far as it went.

    So good luck!

I think I would have found their Bull response even more infuriating....I changed my mind. Next time, for Tim Hortons, go in and politely make the offender feel like a knob.

I did have a complaint about ambulance service, the Ontario Government conducted interviews, checked facts and records. Came back that hte ambulance guys did screw up, so did the 911 person and the 911 process.

Ambulance guys were certainly corrected (a letter would have went in their file).

The 911 operators error in judgment was made apparent to them.

The 911 process for handling that type of call had the hole in it patched.

It felt good to know that a mistake(s) resulted in learning.

  13. I am heading off to the Waterloo area and may end up taking some kids for fishing (I wouldn't mind catching a few funfish myself). Perch, Crappie, sunfish etc..... :Gonefishing:

We will be starting from the UOW and only be going for a couple of hours.

I was thinking about Shad's Mills for a couple of hours of fishing.

Does anyone have recommendations? I am leaving in 20 minutes....(yeah yeah...last minute request) but will check the web when I get to waterloo (1pm or so)

I am not asking for "secret fishing spots" just fun ones.

    thanks,

  14. Service people are often irritated, some are also 'slow'.

If he said "Sorry, the steep tea machine is broken" instead of "we are out" I think it would have been OK for him to complain silently.

But, the skill of translating from brain to mouth seems to be a dying art (?) so the guys 'slowness' led to a situation where he thought he was clear but was not. Happens all time.

The swearing thing.....who knows. Maybe he was not brought up right.

This scenario is not isolated to the service industry. Complaining is the right thing to do.
