  1. Chashew's and Pistachios are great to munch on. Doug, you must be Italian because I eat sangwhiches too! J
  2. Durham region is a very popular area for anglers to target Rainbows. Pick any river out there and there should be fish around. Be prepared however to share the river with many other anglers. Be curtious, kind and respectful. Good luck. J
  3. DD, In dirty water(12 inches or less), I tie nickel/quarter size bags in bright mesh In water that has 12 inches to 3 feet of vis, I tie nickel/dime size bags in all colours In clear water more than 3 feet of vis, I tie dime size or very small bags in light coloured mesh, maybe about 5-7 trout eggs. Keep in mind, that when fishing for pressured steelies, to not only have roe but to bring flies, jigs, soft plastics etc. Good luck J
  4. Even with a bum knee I can travel at the speed of light! Very cool underwater shots. J
  5. I actually look forward to trout opener every year. Its a chance to get out with a bunch of guys I rarely get to fish with and fish water that we havent fished all year. I think that spring steelheading is one of the best times to target them; although the fish do not fight as hard as the fall, they are extremely acrobatic and if you put some time in, you can usually find some streches of rivers all to yourself. I know in some places its a combat zone, where I can see one being detered. Good luck to all no matter where they go. J
  6. Hi Rob, It very difficult to see flaws in used waders, even in the highest quality brand names. You could never detect a leak unless you put them on and walked into deep water allowing the pressure of the water to push through any pin sized holes. I would suggest going and buying new ones, as those do not look like they will last a long time.
  7. Hi HTHM, I run the Credit River Steelhead Tournament in the Spring, and here is what I do: Create a letter outinglining your proposed tournament. In your letter include who you are, why you are doing this and the your anticipated outcome of the tournament. Send it out to local tackle shops, fishing distributors, and manufacturers. Don't forget about local organizations and companies as well. Follow it up with a call and I'm sure you will find some people to donate. Just think about who would be willing to help and ask. The worst they could say is no. I would start as soon as possible if you are planning on a July start date as these people usually need lead time to get stuff organized and sent off to you. I usually start in October and gather up around $3000-$5000 worth of money and product.
  8. You'll have to wait around a week for the Credit, but Mike is correct, some tribs tend to clear sooner than others.
  9. We will be lifting in the rain tonight. We need volunteers so please show up with waders ready to work. Should be a crazy night down there. Thanks!
  10. Wait about a week or so. We've got about 25mm so far today and the rain isn't close to being done.
  11. If anyone wants to sign up for the tournament, they can do so at the ladder. Just ask for Mark, Cameron or myself and we'll get you signed up!
  12. I typically run Raven Specialists. I use different sizes depending on the size of roe bag or artificial I'm using. Try to have sizes 8-14 in your box so you're well prepared. J
  13. Go to the New York DEC website. They have a lot of information about the different tributaries, access, maps, parking spots etc. A little homework will pay dividends. Good luck! Ps. They even have a fishing hotline
  14. Hi Rob, Go to www.youtube.com and type in "casting a centerpin". Good luck
  15. Hi guys, those of you that are new to steelheading, I would encourage you to join our steelhead tournament on May 2nd. You'll definately learn alot. Thanks. Justin
  16. Industrial and Commercial Real Esate Sales and Leasing in the GTA (and a little residential mixed in); on the brinks of opening up my own brokerage.
  17. Look forward to see you there Marcus. PS. Ontario out of doors just sponsored 5 annual subscriptions
  18. Highdrifter, To answer your question, I ask the participant to be honest with their skill level. Its a fun tournament, last year was not a problem, and everyone had a good time. I think most people know if they're capable or not. Marcus, Louis is correct, you will learn a lot of new techniques and tips to properly fly fish on this river. I like to pair people up of the same method of fishing as fly fishermen fish differently than float fisherman so there is a good chance you'll be paired up with someone who knows how to fly fish. It will be a great time. The prizes put a little competitive edge on the day, but its mostly to learn, meet people, and raise a bit of money for our club. And afterwards we have a little grub. J
  19. Finally got it sorted out. State farm confirmed what the few of you mentioned. Covered all year, in or out of water. State Farm offered a lower price for the entire year of usage than Aviva offered for April 1st-November 30th. Live and learn I guess. I've got a quote coming in from the Co-operators as well. I've been quoted for 27K for replacement value, (19' 6" Lund, 200 hp) 2M liability, covered for fire and theft. $700 from State Farm If anyone has any insurance contacts who think they can do better, fire away. Thanks. JP, flip me an email when you get back.
  20. Does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure boats for the entire year without a lay up period so I can use it year round? I am currently with Aviva. Here is the issue I have. From May 1st-Novemeber 30th I am allowed to use the boat (put the boat in water). From December 1st-April 30th I am still insured for fire, theft and liability (while the boat is at home or I am trailering); however, once I put the boat in water I am not covered. What I need, is to be able to use my boat anually. Im sure alot of you fish the Niagara or go fishing in the spring for Salmon or crappies or whatever, so hopefully you should know a few providers for this type of insurance. I have also spoken to a few friends that own boats who said that they had the insurance for annual use; however, one just found out that he wasn't covered during the lay up period for usage and the other was just "told" by their agent that they are covered which I am scepticle about. For me, I want to see it in writing, so if anyone has a policy where it states clearly that you can use the boat year round and are fully covered, please let me know. Thanks.
  21. Hey Paul, Thanks. Im glad you think so.
  22. Hi Nomad, I know what you mean. Weekdays are becoming just as busy as weekends now. Not to worry though, my writings will not include exact locations or dates of rivers I fish. Usually I report well after I fish any system. Thanks and take care. J
  23. Hi everyone, I've started writing about Steelhead for WFN. It will also include work and activities done within the CRAA organization in their "going green" section. Please take a read at your leasure. Thanks and take care. J www.wfn.tv
